Bob the Alien (Giger inspired Alien)

Thank you for the kind words guy's & the feedback :)
I've made up my mind, I'm going with the non-tubed, artsy look.
All your advise & suggestions have been considered & are very much appreciated.
Clutch, I cant believe you chopped up an SS Aliens bust :confused :)
The tube supporting the weight will be a bit bigger & more detailed than shown in the image I posted.

I'll update as I get some good progress :)
Thanks again :)

Although there'll be a little less Alien, the aesthetically pleasing contour of the piece sans horn/tube works wonderfully as a display. It is indeed a far more artistic approach and one I very much like. I'm glad you decided upon it.

As for Clutch's SS Warrior, I'm assuming he simply removed the tube which is detachable from the bust.

Now that I've seen the two pics side by side, I think I do like the tubeless version. It does look rather professional that way. :)

I do hope I dont disappoint you guys :confused

I've been having a play & I've come up with this:

I still need to do some clay work around the back etc. At the moment I'm thinking I'll add a short third rib & I may make the base a little larger. It wobbles a bit at the moment but then the head is heavy with all the clay on it. The tube doing the supportive work is plastic, it has too much flex for this job hence the wobble, I'll use a steel tube for the support for the finished Bob.
I'm going to leave this for a couple of days now to let the caulking dry properly.

As much as the tube idea was great, I really like the form you've taken with the base etc, gives it a more unique look. Excellent work on the stand etc so far :D

DAMN that looks so good. It's beautiful. I really wish I had the skills to do something like this. The more I visit this site the less I care if something is made by Sideshow or Master Replicas and the more I care about the piece itself. I'll be dropping by soon to see more, I love it Leigh. Thank you.

Ahh thats good to know, Thank you :)
I was a little worried that you might not have liked it, that I'd spoilt it :)

It has crossed my mind that the cutout area on the back is beginning to be reminiscent of Sano's big chap.
I havent actually copied sano's design or used it for reference with this alteration but, I guess theres only so many ways to do this with this shape of torso & the shapes that are on it. I definitely dont want it to look like I've copied Sano's work.

I've been looking at it & I'm going to carve out just a bit more from behind the ribs/chest area, then seal it & I can start building up the clay, blending & adding detail etc.

I'm looking forward to getting the spines on the fin & giving him a back bone detail.

:)

Totaly outstanding Leigh, I am in awe. Your eye for detail and form is second to none :eek. I feel lucky to have witnessed the emergence of a true master of art.

Holy cow, Leigh. You are just SO FAST it's bewildering. That or I'm damn slow, don't answer that, lol.

Looks great. One bit, I'm not sure about the "tail" coming off the stand. Would maybe recommend looking at blending that more into the base itself in some Gigeresque way maybe. It's a great idea, but right now it looks a little bit like it's part of his actual body. Or is that just me?

Thank you guys :)

If you mean this bit where the two bits of wire join together:

The plan at the moment is to blend them into the base. I've left them long deliberately so that I can do something interesting with them.

The stand is permanently fitted to the body & slots into a shaped hole in the MDF base. I'm intending to do something interesting with the base & have the whole lot look like its all one, blended with detail.
I will keep it so that it slots to the base though for ease of construction, I'll just try to hide the join in the detail.

:)

Yes, the tubes on the SS bust are pinned and removable.

Measuring time. I have no idea what this skull has been cast from.
