Bob the Alien (Giger inspired Alien)

Thanks guy's :)

Clutch, Thanks for the measurments, interestingly Bob is just over 10" where yours is 9.5" & the sockets measure up the same :) Bob's head is about 35.5" long. Good thing about the the tubes on your SS clutch :)

I should have an update later on with some pic's :)

Todays update :)

I decided I needed to reinforce the chest where the supporting tube stops, so I carved it out, drilled some holes at funny angles & filled it all up with urethane.
Todays pic's :)

Its all just roughed out at the moment just to see how things look & whether it all works together.

I would like to see the tubes on the back, however I like how you fixed the backside thus leaving them off.As far as the base I'm not sure how I feel about it.It does look a little like a tail. Can't wait to see more updates.BTW have you done some more thinking on how you are going to mold this?Wish I could give some input on the matter but I have never done that sort of thing.Great thing about this forum there are many talented people to pick their brains for info. There is one that comes to mind,Thorssoli here on this site and on the 405th has done some amazing sculpts and mold work. You should look up his threads here,I'm sure he could give you some tips on the most cost effective and reliable products to use, just a thought.Keep up the good work.Russ

Thanks :) I've still got alot of work to do on the base & I'm just playing around with idea's at the moment on that. I have a supplier for materials sorted & I've been conferring with a couple of members regarding advise on the process so I think I'm good to go, thanks for the tip though :)

And....For the win!!
Beautifully designed and exceptionally executed bud. :thumbsup
Yes, I am a fan of the tubes...but your solution here is perfect.

To be honest, I had a similar design but with the back spine curving under the torso and facing forward - allowing the placement of the back tubes, but did not save it....because I didn't want to be that guy, insisting over and over again.:behave ...:lol

Respect to your design, and I think it's even better than any prior solution with or without back tubes shown yet.
Molding it should be a breeze IF you keep it as is, in sections.

Love this thread.

love the way it looks with the spikes going through the back and on the spine, it really made the back end flow with the curves you made on the back. I actually like the way the details look in his lower back, for me, i can tell that it is extra detail and not a tail because of the way you shaped where the arms should be. I think it clearly defines it as a bust and the rest of the detail in the back makes it look much nicer than just leaving it blank like most busts.

Thank you David :) I'm really pleased that your not disappointed.

Thanks Joe :) thats what I'm aiming to achieve :)

Keep going the way you're going! It's looking excellent so far! For the actual base, you could easily make it perfect with a simple Gigeresque-styled design morphing into the middle support spine you already have :)

Gorgeous work. I love the base and shoulder design.

I've always wanted a fullsize ALIEN bust but always hated the solutions the major companies came up with for the lower half.

The HCG one looks like the alien is simply stuck halfway in a table.

The Sideshow one looks "Off" without the shoulder tubes to complete the design. The skinny neck and tiny base make him look wimpy and spindly.

I did always like the 1:4 scale bust that came out a while back. Has a Victorian mounted specimen look to it. Very clean and museum-like.

Your approach probably comes closest to the Sideshow ALIENS bust minus the tubes. The tubes do make it incredibly huge feeling.

or maybe the recent Japanese scale bust-

Again awesome work and a classy looking base solution.

Only just saw this thread and worked me way through all the piccies. All I can think to say is wow, I seriously would kill to have one of those on the coffee table. Love the solution for the stand too, it's looking ace. Can't wait to see the finished article.

Once more I´m totally blown aways. That bust - stand idea is simply AWESOME. LOVE IT!!

Great dynamic feeling and truthful to the whole design. Thumbs up man!

Using a tape measure, from the top of the upper lip to a midpoint on the back of the skull, mine measures 40.5"

Many thanks guy's for all the support :) really does keep things moving :)

Clutch, was that measurement taken over the curve of the head or in a dead straight line??
When I measured mine I put the back of the head up against the wall & then pushed a square upto the tube under his nose, then measured the gap he left between the two.
If that was a straight line then Bob's a bit undersized? maybe??

Bob is Beautiful and a credit to Giger himself. Are you having any back tubes. I think a couple would round it off prefectly.
