Blade Runner Inspired Office Build: Deckard's Apartment

You could make the card push in a mechanical latch easily enough... Push the card in to open door- work without power too!

Yep, that was the plan. But after doing tons of research, looking for existing solutions, 3d modeling a few iterations of a mechanism, I decided it wasn't worth the effort. I also don't want to have to have a card with me every time I go into my office.

Spoke to fast (silly me:lol::lol:)...are you going to make the slit to insert the card...or not?
I may route a slit into the wood deep enough for the card to insert a bit. The door will be on a roller catch so I could technically just insert the card and push the door open

Small update but I received my Deckard’s trench coat the other day from ELS (Jameel Ur) the other day and got a coat rack to hang it. Deckard’s coat is never seen on a rack in his apartment, he just throws it on the floor haha. But I thought this would give it a nice “lived in” look. I need to steam it to get some of the wrinkles out from it being shipped in a bag. I'm extremely happy with how it turned out. Extremely accurate. Thanks Jameel!

If you are interested in an "in universe" solution for the coat rack, the Planta coat rack found in Bryant, Leon and Zhora's rooms would work nicely.

Yep, I've been looking at those for a while trying to find one at a decent price. They're crazy expensive for a plastic coat rack. And quite large. I ended up going with a $20 from amazon that fits in the corner.

I kinda dig the minimalist aspect to the $20 version to be honest. Less is more sometimes.

HI. just created an account to ask a simple question: I couldn't find any info on how you made the FLR tiles or if you purchased them.
Amazing work, I've been following for months.

Really enjoying following this thread! Some serious work gone into this project, would love to do something similar in the future. We’ll have to see if we can get Adam savage to do a tour when it’s done!

I know you’ve been busy, but any room updates?
Not really. Still waiting to finish the door. I don't trust myself with drilling the hole for the roller latch and the staining. I'm going to have to rely on hdtheater 's skills and talents yet again for it to be done right.

I did make up the alignment template for the door numbers so I could get those positioned accurately.

OH and I made this silly little decal to put on the butt plate of my blaster to accurately replicate the scratch pattern of the real prop. One of those completely unnecessary but super satisfying details.

I finally took the plunge and removed the labels off of my (fairly rare) Smirnoff Czar bottle to convert it into a “Tsingtao” bottle as seen in the film. I spent hours pouring over reference material to try and make a set of labels that replicated the look of the film props as close as I could get them. This is my interpretation. There is very little reference of them so I obviously had to make some guesses, and the smaller print is completely made up (with some Easter eggs, of course.)
The blue “seal” is really hard to make out but in the one shot we can see, it looks like a blue spherical pearl with what is possibly a gold ridge. It’s very hard to make out. I found some buttons on Amazon that I thought looked the part so that’s what I went with.
The labels are printed and machine cut out of clear vinyl on a high-end eco-solvent printer/cutter. The yellow "tax strip" decals are matte vinyl to more closely approximate paper but with the stretch and durability of vinyl.
