I looked it up out of curiosity: Silpak, Inc

For $6000 you have enough sillicone to mold a horse, mate... Anyway, it all doesn't matter, right? There are about 30 people on the list, some of them payd $300, others $600 (some even more). We are talking about an amount of money of way more than $10.000 in total! If you are not able to manage those kind of budgets, DO NOT TAKE ON THAT MUCH MONEY!!!! Djeezes! You are professional prop-builder. How do you come in this situation with this run? Two options: 1. You had NO IDEA what you were doing! (which I think is hard to believe) or 2. The money went elsewhere! And with the last option I don't claim you were planning this from the beginning, but maybe you thought: "I now have these bills to pay, I'll use the deposit money for now, and when I have money again, I'll fund the run again." Only problem: that "when I have money again" part!

But like I said. I think we are way beyond excuses, right? You can be in a hard place for a while, even for years. But this is now FIVE years and counting. Come on!

I leave the house for work at 5am and get home at 7:30pm, have a bath, eat my dinner and go to bed. Thats my life. There is never enough time, there is never enough money.

That’s no excuse. Do you take dumps? If yes, bring your phone. You have time to respond to people’s messages.

No matter how long, no matter the hardships, communication with your customers is the absolute most important thing on the list. They’ll stick up with a lot, especially members here seems like, when the communication is there.

I appreciate life can throw a giant curveball and you seem to get stuck between a rock and a hard place. It’s tough true. But communicate. Don’t disappear for long periods of time.

Exactly!!!! And also do what you promise! You promised to refund people on a slow pace, but that did not really happen. The list in the opening post is not changing for months and months now (it was not even complete). Then you promised people could get a kit. But also there: I think only one person received a kit and that was about it. And for the rest: questions are just not answered for weeks and weeks!

This one for instance:
How much longer till we get paid?

Or this one:
Brandon, how many kits do you have ready to send out if people decide to accept this as their refund?

You come here, just IGNORING all questions, draw the self-pity card once again, and probably leave again for weeks... That's not the signal that you want to solve things. Just start by COMMUNICATIONG and answering the questions people have!

He was on the forum last sunday, so he had the opportunity to answer the first questions. But off course: the longer he is silent, the longer he can stretch this run... When you only post a few messages once a month, it's easy to stretch this for years and years...

If you look at his trader history it is all positive. How can he have all positive feedback, when as a trader he has taken payment for things he has not traded? Why are so many people who have not had their money returned not complaining? If they think by complaining they won't get their money back, well he doesn't seem to be trying to pay any of us back.

Unfortunately, we've reached a point where a good reputation no longer means anything, because even people with good histories can suddenly fail to deliver. Sometimes people are inherently evil, sometimes people become desperate, and sometimes good people simply can't live up to their own expectations. In the last few years, I've been affected by all three types:
  1. In 2019, I spent $1000 to preorder a replica of HAL-9000 from Master Replicas. The company sold over a million dollars' worth of these. And then the CEO declared bankruptcy, kept every penny without producing a single unit, and then restarted the company a year later. I later learned that the CEO, Stephen Dymszo, is a known con artist who has made millions of dollars repeatedly doing things like this. He's a rotten, vile man.
  2. A few years ago, I was a member of the R2 Builders Club. At one point, an extremely reputable seller opened a run, took in over $100,000, and then provided updates for six months about how they were coming along. Then he came forward and admitted that he had not produced any parts, but had instead stolen the money. It turned out that for all of his years with the club, he had not been paying taxes. After years of this, the IRS audited him and demanded that he pay tens of thousands of dollars in back taxes. Not having the money, he created a fake run to pay off the IRS. He seemed apologetic and sad that it happened, but that doesn't change the fact that he hurt a lot of people.
  3. I lost $1,000 on the Crystal Skull run here on the RPF. I paid extra for a skull that I was told was in stock and ready to ship. Two years later, it still has not arrived. The seller keeps saying that he's out of money, but that he'll eventually get them made. But I don't plan on ever seeing it.
Personally, I think Brandon is in the third category. I really do think he intended to produce these items. In the early days, he spent a lot of money on material, and a lot of time making the parts. He provided photos of all of this, and he clearly wasn't just stealing the money. But then, things got very bad for him.

I'm one of the people who lost hundreds of dollars on this run, so I know the sadness and frustration of watching that money vanish, while also not getting what was looking to be an amazing replica. It's a double loss. We lost our money and we lost our blasters.

But I'm sure that Brandon himself is suffering from this run more than anyone. For us, it's an annoyance to be out hundreds of dollars. But for Brandon, this is a life-ruining type of thing. On top of any personal problems he's facing, he's spent the last few years with dozens of angry people contacting him regularly. He's invested all of our money in a failed project, and now he's in debt with nothing to show for it. And his reputation has been totally destroyed. Brandon is a skilled craftsman, and these types of projects have the potential to be a lucrative side job. And now, he may never be trusted by the community again. And I don't really blame him for not updating us or responding to messages, because the only possible response is going to be "I don't have the money or the parts."

I definitely think this entire situation could have been handled better. But I also try to remind myself that if I'm able to spend hundreds of dollars on replica blasters, droids, and crystal skulls, then I'm a lucky person. I'm not a wealthy person at all. But so many people out there are suffering. And anyone who has disposable income should be grateful for that, because it's becoming increasingly rare. I work hard for the money I earn, so I don't like seeing it wasted. But if I was spending that money on frivolous movie replicas, then I can't really be too upset. There are far worse things in life than not having a fake blaster on my shelf.

Over the past 5 years, I've invested in more failed runs than I have successful ones. The world is becoming so unstable, and even reliable people aren't able to keep up. It's not fun spending hundreds of dollars just to spend years watching the updates slowly fade away. It's crazy that we've all been talking about this blaster for 5 years now. I should have stopped thinking about it a very long time ago. Life is too short for this.

I agree with some of what you are saying. 5 years ago i might have had money to spare! I may have saved up some money for a treat for myself. Things have change now, not just for Brandomack! This doesn't give him the right to keep mine or other peoples money. You may be happy to give up on getting your money back but i'm not! As far as i can see he is making little or no effort to repay people what he has taken from them. How many people have had a refund in the last 12 months? I am willing to accept a repayment plan From Brandon. I would be happy to accept maybe $50 a month. That's not much and it would show some sort of effort to repay what he has had. It is not my fault he didn't complete the blasters so he should return the money.

I think Brandon could gain A LOT more understanding, if he was just communicating! A simple question like "How many kits do you have available for people who prefer this instead of a refund?" is not answered. Het get silent for weeks and weeks. How much effort is it to show in this thread that you are working on it?

And apart from that, I can only advise people to pay through regular paypal payments, and if there is no result after 6 months, just open a paypal claim and get your money back. Simple as that. I let this 6 month period pass, because Brandon had a good reputation and I bought from him before. But I guess that was a good lesson for me too: even if you know the seller and he has a good reputation, NEVER let the 6 month pay pal period pass! Either open a claim, or ask the seller for a refund, and immediately make a new payment, starting a new period of 6 months.

I'm sure that working in the movie business you must have collected some props or souvenirs which you could sell on to pay back the people you have taken money from!

Still no replies from Brandonmack! Why am i not surprised. Hope you treat your employers better than you are treating the people you have stolen money from! When are you going to start paying people back?
