Thanks T but I’ve a long way to goMock up looks good!
I’ve been plumbing for 35 years man and boy and it’s nothing to do with plumbingIt could be a sink strainer or the output of an grinder. But I started a research years ago and found....nothing.Like the most time.![]()
The top disc has the similarities of a sink plug strainer but they are press formed and have less holes with thinner metal usually 0.5 to 0.75mm stainless or brass, I’m now looking into the 2nd lower disc under the top discIt could be a sink strainer or the output of an grinder. But I started a research years ago and found....nothing.Like the most time.![]()
Will doPut me down for the final version of these Ben
great work, as always!
View attachment 944264 This is what my research has led me to ATM
I’ve had other small leads that I still need to look into
This is a close up of a video recording head from a VCR . It’s not an old VCR more mid 90s I’ve been looking into 50s and 60s Commercial TV studio/movie studio recording devices but there’s not much to look at yet
This is the rotary transformer from inside a recording head Helical scan type, I’m looking into tape to tape older versions of the Helical recorders as they are the type that has the rotary transformer
Pictures man PICTURES !Great work.
The mask is in Sydney now and I’m in heaven. I’ve bought a museum membership and have gone 3 times already. It’s a great ‘early Friday arvo escape from work’
On my last visit I took the zipper peice you made and compared it from outside the glass. Obviously it’s not possible to get it side by side, but when looking at it with the eye you can gauge a good level of proportion naked eye style
I’ve got to say that the zipper looks bang-on
Great job & keep up the facdisious work.
I did the same with kurty boys neck brace mesh. It looks bang on too.
I’ll be progressively take each of the peices in to compare from outside the glass. Naked eye style
My aim is to complete as much of my mask as I can before it goes in June
I also think that many greeblies came from the same item, strip it down and use what you can then move on to another device.I’d say you are probably correct on the lower disc. I too believe it is a helical scan part from a very old recorder. I found replacement parts online from some off-brand scan heads and they look very much like this, although I don’t have a good size reference and also the holes in the ones online appear much more simetrical in layout. I’d say these, and some other known (and unknown) prop parts likely come fron the same device/s.

The helical scan head might have come from an old tape to tape recorder VTR from the 50s or 60s as these types were replaced in the late 60s early 70s with more modern and revolutionary technology but they all kept the helical scan recording heads, even in the 80s 90s they still had the helical scan heads
When I was looking into the reveal ears I got into looking at old video recorders from the 60s when they started moving into video cassette tapes ( part of the load/unload mechanism) there’s some similarities but no cigar
The helical scan head was also used in different computer drives (smaller versions)
that I haven’t looked at yet, maybe the 2nd disc and the ears are somewhere in the computing archive world
