Batsuit: Arkham Origins V1

Re: WIP - Batman Arkham Origins

Hey bro, could you post some close up shots of your shoulder armor please? Thanks man
Of course man. I'll take some pics and post em when I get home. If I had the time i would probably redo them though as i think I made them a little small. In the reference pics I was using they look a bit bigger and more bowl shaped. I am going to add the little silver buckle later today that hangs off of them as well.
Loving what I'm seeing dude.

David
Thanks again David.

Re: WIP - Batman Arkham Origins

Never seen anyone work foam this well. Incredible stuff, makes me want to make my own Arkham Origins suit. Can't wait to see the finished product!

Re: WIP - Batman Arkham Origins

What you guys think? Think I should redo the shoulders and the belt? The shoulders I feel are a bit small and the belt might need a size increase as well. :-/
Not sure if I have time, but it kinda bothers me.

If anything i think I'll move forward and come back to both of them after I've completed the rest of the build.

I guess you could go a bit bigger on the shoulders. It might help with the double straps not being so close. (If it was still bugging you) The belt looks fine to me.

I'd say that's the best way to go about it. If you're trying to get this done by Halloween (ARE you trying to get this done by Halloween?) it would be best to ration your time off on completing as much as possible and then redoing any parts you're not satisfied with, if there's time left over. Better to have 93% accurate shoulder pads than entire missing pieces because you ran out of time.

Trying to freehand a template for my gauntlets. Kind of basing it off the design used by bigbat. But adding details from images of the neca figure I'm using as reference material. Still need to tweak it a little though before I start cutting.

Whoa! You freehand is just as good as my printed templates.
Well I referenced the images of your gauntlets to get the basic form factor and I'm trying to edit it to get it closer to the neca model.
BTW, earlier I sent you a PM with the images you requested. Did you get it?

No I didn't get it. I've been watching for it cause I am starting on the shoulders tonight.

Re: WIP - Batman Arkham Origins

Very nice work so far! Inspiring, in fact! Loving what you've done so far! Keep it up! I look forward to seeing this once it's complete!(y)cool

Re: WIP - Batman Arkham Origins

Having a hell of a time trying to figure out how to craft the gauntlets like I envision them. Had to heat it up and tear the base from the other pieces twice already. Hopefully third time is a charm. :-/

Re: WIP - Batman Arkham Origins

This is your first big hurdle. Practice makes perfect just keep a cool head through the frustration and itll be worth it in the end. Thanks for the updates.

3rd attempt I had to make some compromises due to my inability to waste materials in my trial and error. I'm kinda broke and don't get paid till Saturday and I have a costume party to go to on Saturday so I have to make every scrap of foam count. I found as I went along that my template became inaccurate once I molded the base onto my forearm. All other items I had previously cut now fit incorrectly. On my second attempt I tried to glue everything down while all pieces were flat. Had better results but still there was warping/shrinking of some of the thinner (2 mm) foam pieces as I heated the base to contort it to my forearm.
My third attempt I decided to use thicker foam. Canceled out the 2mm which I was using for detail(unsuccessfully). I just used my razor blade instead of the detailed 2mm foam pieces to carve in the little designs that border the gauntlets edges. Not my best job, but it's workable. Still need to add the straps, some bolts, spikes and the under-cushion... Then I need to make the other one.

Man! Sorry to hear about the minor set backs. The one in the pic looks great!

It's okay. Just not sure how you went about making yours with the 2 and 3 mm foam. That stuff is delicate. Also what did you use to glue them down? Seemed like the glue gun was working against me on the thinner foams. Was making bubbles and and uneven surfaces. Best laid plans... But anyhow I'm not too bummed about the results I have now. Just wish I didn't waste so much time earlier. Could have had both done and had already moved on to something else you know?
BTW, did you finish the shoulders? how did they come out?

Wow man that looks great though! Great job!
Thanks man! Really appreciate it. Was a little self conscious about it.im going to finish this one up and hopefully I can start on the second so I can spend tomorrow doing the legs or arms. Ill post another pic when I'm done with this one.

Re: WIP - Batman Arkham Origins

Sweet dude cant wait to see more. Really looking forward to seeing your cowl too. Im sorry i didnt give my opinion on redoing the shoulders. I wanted to tell you they can prob be a little bigger. But wait to do your cape before you decide. The cape may give the appearance that theyre bigger. So you dont have to spend more time making another set.

Re: WIP - Batman Arkham Origins

I used Loctite Super glue gel. I did mine the way you did your second go at it. Glued everything together while still flat. Then heated it up to form it to my forearm. I had to do it a few times. Anyway yours looks cool so press on man. We got 10 days left.
