Bandai release schedule

Didn't we have a general SW vehicle thread somewhere?
Anyways...
ENHANCE!

Good thing we now have the "Holdo Manouvre".

These SDs neatly parked in one plane in space should make it easy to send a couple of unmanned ships into light speed and destroy them all easy peasy.

......ridiculous idea Ryan Johnson !!

Then again maybe all those SDs have run out of fuel and they'll be ready pickins ?? [emoji23]

Looks like the lit version is going for about $200 or more on amazon now. I have to think more will be stocked and prices will eventually fall--otherwise Bandai is basically throwing money away if there's truly such demand for this kit and they only wind up making a handful of them.

Totally agree.

Imagine the cost of the tooling and D&D for this model. There is no way Bandai will do a "limited run" they need to sell as many of these babies as possible.

There are two versions of this kit: the Standard Version which contains no LEDs, lighting elements, clear parts sprues, Diffusers or special booklet that has only the styrene kit - AND - the First Production Limited run that contains the LEDs, lighting elements, clear parts sprues, Diffusers and special booklet. The First Production Limited version is INDEED limited and Bandai is notorious for NOT re-releasing all the goodies in a limited edition run.

Bandai will make it's bucks back on the Standard Version which will be released far and wide and plentiful.

Based on what I have gleaned from the unboxing videos from Japan, for experienced lighting gurus - there is a traditional fiber optic guide that details where one can light the standard model with LEDs and fiber as opposed to the diffused engineering of their limited edition run.

But the first production run with all the extras is indeed limited.

Well, would you look at all of those shooty cannons on the bottom of those SD!

No kidding! Wow! Missed that! Well, that would explain THIS shot then:

Makes me glad to know that it is the Star Destroyers with Death Star tech and not another Death Star itself outside of the wreckage. Wow - so Palpatine miniaturized the planet killer weapon and put it on Star Destroyers. THAT would be a serious galaxy-wide threat to have to deal with.

Of course I cannot help but hear Han's line from a New Hope here:

"The entire starfleet couldn't destroy the entire planet, it would take a thousand ships with more firepower than I've....."

Well, now you have a thousand ships with more firepower than he has ever seen.

Maybe all the Star Destroyers are in formation like that since they combine their stuff into one "super weapon"

Kind of like that Gatlantis "super weapon" from Yamato 2202

few interesting tibids from FFG panel (the guys that made 60 cm Executor for Armada and few other nice gaming miniatures). First of all, there's a chance for 1/48 AT-AT (or slightly smaller) model. FFG isnt Bandai and their models are still gaming miniature first and foremost, but they're quite detailed. Second interesting thing is coment on sequel trilogy stuff for legion, which nicely ties up with our recent discussion here - tl;dr they wanted to do implement FO and Resistance stuff to the game, but they discovered that it doesnt generate that much of a hype and Clone Wars era is far more popular, thus decision to implement republic and CIS units first.
(edit: to make one thing clear - legion is super popular thing right now, to the point that only year after release they had covered almost all stuff from OT era, including such exotic things like tauntauns raiders, Stormtroopers in every possible variant including those from rogue one, old EU and snowtrooper with that gun on tripod, even that strange tank from rogue and escape pod with 3PO and R2. So if they say that something isnt worth considering for this game, that means that this thing must be really niche and unpopular among fans)

Ok fair enough. I'm up for a challenge and after watching a Zvezda model build video the giver optics don't look that crazy difficult.

Cab you remember where you saw the info on the fiber optic guide ?

you can see it on the unboxing video on one of the previous pages. There's even english translation of it on the last page of the guide (which isnt as common as you might think).

One screenshot shows a detailed instruction for how and where to put fiber in the Bandai kit the traditional way not using their LEDs and diffusing system:

Fiber Bandai 1-5000.jpg

Given the current fiber hell I am stuck in with the Zvezda - I am horrified by the thought of doing THAT in a kit half the size of the Zvezda. So I am happy and pleased to simply use the diffusers and LEDs that come with the kit for the Bandai build.

Picked up the First Edition 1/5000 Star Destroyer at my LHS. With tax it was just under $150. The box size is ridiculous, almost as big as the Zvezda! They received 7 on Thursday and are now down to 2.

They weren't able to get standard edition yet. I was going to say there this no sign of them in the USA, but someone on the bay of e says he has 3 to sell.

Ok cool thanks. Yeah can appreciate the fiber stress and the option of having everything done is pretty appealing.

Not sure if you've seen this video but this guy is good. Some good tips on giver optics as well. Love the Russian accent he has too [emoji1360]

That guy is awesome! I'm a subscriber since I don't know, 2015 maybe? At the beginning he was straightforward and yet good, but he has grown quite a lot as a modeller over the years and now he's a beast. That's a Czech accent btw. That video got me tempted of getting a Zvezda insted of the Bandai. Size matters!

OK. I stand corrected as Czech accent then. Pretty thick, but love it. But yes, I also was also thinking size matters in this case. Details are better on the Bandai no question, but hmmm I'll need to have a think about it.

For me it actually depends mainly how and where I want to display it. If I ws going to display it among all my other 1/72 ships, then I'm thinking bigger is definitely better. Certainly a long way away from 1/72 but bigger would at least give a bit of perspective ??

By the way are there any differences between the Revell version and this Zvezda version ? I see the Revell online for around €60.

Another question. Anyone know roughly how much fiber optic lighting would cost for the Bandai ? Ballpark.

So far I have spent $90 US on fiber as I had to double the amount I ordered after running out of 152 meters of .25mm filament and 15.5 meters of .5mm for over 1200 .030mm holes and .60mm holes I have drilled into the kit.

Spent about $100 US on LEDs, battery pack, wire, shrink tubing, solder, and remote.

$70 on micro drill bits. 10 per pack and have broken all of them. $30 US on styrene rods, sheets and glue.

$50 on primer. I have not ordered surface color yet.

So it's safe to say I am nearing $500 US in total spent on building the Zvezda, including the kit itself.

I wonder if you'd get a good result just spreading Krystal Clear on the inside of the pieces with the pre-drilled holes and maybe dusting that with white paint to diffuse the light.

Now there's an idea. There are white diffusers that you have to snap together and put into place throughout the model that carry the LED light through. I think your idea would work well if one is painting the kit prior to assembly. I would likely dust a pale yellow from the inside on the window areas and red in spots on individual windows with a brush once the Krystal Klear dries.

As a side note, one of the negative reviews of the product is that sometimes old stock is shipped as new and the stuff is already cured inside the bottle. Something to watch out for, as a few folks have requested the MFR put some kind of expiration date on the bottles.

Yeah, it sounds like people are complaining that even with the diffusers inside you get some hot points of light when you're just looking through the pre-drilled holes, so I was thinking filling them with Krystal Clear or white glue might cut that down.
