Bandai 1/72 PG Millennium Falcon (also the Revell Germany rebox)

Wow !!! Fantastic work i see here ! i didn't read it all, but i was impressed by the work of Jim357 for now.
i'm all new here, hello !

i received my Bandaï Millenium Falcon 1/72, and i'm preparing the work to be done, the steps, the Tools, paints ...

But since it's not the deluxe but the standard version, it doesn't feature the photo etched grill vents and it doesn't have the led kit too ... ( maybe some other features that aren't in the standard version ? )

>>> I really need to do something about it, and i was wondering if any of you may have a nice res photo of this metal etched plate, uncut yet, ( with some measure ruler aside to give me some dimensions and scale ) , so i could do some blue print, cad file, and ask my 3d printing friend i'm working with to laser cut it for me or something. That would be very helpful, thanks !

Edit, damn .... i realise only now that the sheet of decals was a sheet of stickers ...
But thanks Jaitea scanned his decals ! Now .. How to print it for the best and create decals .. been 25 years that i didn't buld a model lol.

that's the picture that got me here in the first place. it's exactly what i'm looking for but i wish there was a higher resolution version if possible.

What's the highest rez of your friend's laser cutter with metal? A lot of laser cutters can't do reflective materials.

It's tricky. I've designed grilles for 3D printing, but you can't get the resolution in plastic that you can in etched metal.

thanks so much! Good luck with getting some printing done of the vents/grills...I wonder if you might be able to buy them separately from Bandai, I bought THREE additional dual LED's for extra cockpit light and for the gunwells which I have lit up

for grills...you could try this?

Thanks !
Well, now that i remember, i think it's maybe a special cnc that he uses to engrave and also to cut such layers of metal. I guess it could work, or we could 3d print them. the machine works with green resin ( same as plastic ) and goes down to a precision of 20 microns.
We do jewellerys for chanel, Hermès, Swarovski etc. i do the 3d models for prototypes.

your models look great, and closer to what i could see on the 5 foot original model. maybe if you can soom in to see the détails ..

There are also some other parts that were etched i see. i'd need to build them too, etch them ..

ooooh nice !!
i did a research previously, i saw these among other things, but i don't know why i thought it was for the revell version.
cool

for the light, i've found this "Light and Sound Bluetooth Controller for 1/72 Bandai PG Millennium Falcon" ( can't post the link, i'm new ) .... God, it's fantastic, i want this !

Your forum seems really great :)

Nice result ! i'd be interested myself to give it a try and modelize a set of parts, from the photos of the original 5 foot model, and through 3d printing and etching.
i didn't even build my Falcon yet so i don't have a full list yet for a nice upgrade. Will see with my friend what's possible.

Just a little question aside please : Once the Millenium falcon is assembled and painted, do you think it's ok to disassemble it mostly if not entirely ? Or would the dried paint be too sticky/solid to put the pièces appart ?
The pièces are clipped so it's an advantage for that purpose but i Wonder. Thanks.

Bandai are masters of plastic engineering when it comes to making the clip-together plastic parts. Everything snaps together extremely snugly. But if you put any paint on those bits, it makes it more tricky to assemble, and certainly disassemble.

It's one thing if you want to, say, open up the painted Falcon saucer to install more lights or whatever. But I wouldn't paint detail parts and then expect to take them apart like Lego later on.

Don’t buy that product! Paragrafix do excellent work, but that particular etched set is for the Fine Molds Falcon. It differs in size and details from the Bandai PG Falcon, and the grilles will not fit!

At time of writing no third party makes an etched detail set for the PG Falcon.
ah my mistake

Hunk a Junk

I’m sure I saw it in one of your posts ages back, but can I ask where you got the ANH accurate cockpit? Considering swapping the stock ESB one out to make it fully ANH.

When you say ANH accurate do you mean a model modelled after the five foot shooting miniature? The one which looks nothing like the full size set. Or the full size ANH set?

That's a bummer to see the Last Jedi Falcon going to one of the parks. I'd hoped they at least would correct the ugly upper mandible first.

I'm guessing, since he's quoting hunk a junk, that he's looking for the five-footer replica cockpit... I do agree, we need to be more clear when we talk about movie accurate references... Hunk a Junk was going for a true five foot replica... most others are shooting for just the ANH stage set cockpit...

Yep that huge wedge of cheese,...& you'd think the McLaren parts would be easier to replicate than those torch-like things

Yep, meaning the 5 footer cockpit, not the full size one. Sorry, should have been more specific.
