Astyanax's Makes, Builds and Acquisitions: 2024

I received this PM-44 Plasma Pistol from The Orville (TV), purchased from a seller here on the RPF.

The pistol is static, 3D printed in solid resin, and beautifully finished in 3-4 different metallic colors and sheens!

REAL PROP ALERT! PROBABLY NOT?????

I received this Pyramid Playing Card from Battlestar Galactica (TV-1978), purchased in an online auction and ostensibly used in the Production of the TV show!

Despite the claim, I'm pretty sure this card is not almost 50 years old. Possibly it's from one of the commercially available sets from the 80s? But even then, unlikely. Ah, so that's why it was so cheap and no one was bidding on it!

The card is satin sheen on the back and flat on the front. The gold triangle is shiny as well. It's smaller than I expected!

Those little gold bars would be a nice little addition to go with your cards Bill. I'm sure you could do yourself a nice little stack of them.

This Elven Cloak Brooch from The Lord of the Rings (2009-2003) was a Christmas gift from my sister, which was found on Amazon.

Loving the intricacy and quality of this pin, which is metal and enamel glaze. It was difficult to photograph in its vibrant color!

(I should probably dull it or weather it, but I prefer it shiny...maybe a Fuller's Earth bath?)
Sorry for the necro-post... but don't dull the brooch.
It's made from mithril ;) , and mithril doesn't oxidize (tarnish), not no-way, not no-how.

I finished this Flash Drive from The Substance (2024), a scratch build from sourced parts and some 3D printing!

The build history for this drive can be found here on the RPF. Basically it's a found USB light, a 3D-printed case, and some vinyl-cut lettering. And it still lights up when I plug it in!

I received my own manufactured Gambit's Playing Cards from Deadpool & Wolverine (2024), purchased from an overseas manufacturing company to my specifications!

They are black PET plastic, printed with gold foil, and a "carbon-fiber" style texture on the front. I am so happy with how they came out, and how close in accuracy they are to the screen-used cards!

Since we couldn't see all the cards in the film, I designed the Ace of Spades to match some Joe Jusko art.

(Yes, these are available in the Project Runs forum of the RPF!)

I received these Paper Props, Gringotts Coins, and Keys from the Harry Potter franchise, purchased from a seller on Etsy:

PXL_20241114_021913396.jpg

Accuracy varies; we don't see the actual keys or the faces of the coins in the movies, so these are "maybe" prop replicas.
The Gringotts coins and keys are lightweight metal.

(Nothing too spectacular, but all intended to add some flair and color to the Harry Potter area of my collection!)

Beautiful props.

The keys are not very reliable but they can do the trick from a distance ;)

I was worried for a minute because there is that guy on etsy that scanned my work on the Goblin letter, and after we published our replicas with my wife (wonderknight) and all the research associated with it, he also got to update his Ron and Harry letters that were really bad before that. The fun part is, those are very hard to get perfect, and it seems scanning those is even harder than actually making them yourself because he is selling them for more than my wife on her website, what a world!
But yeah, you seem to have gotten one from another seller, so that is just fair competition then ahah :) AND, his/hers are cheaper than ours too so that is definitely fair as well ahah :)
coins are nice :) especially for the cost, don't know how they did those.
cheers

ps: and nice work on your run of gambits cards!

To go with the USB Flash Drive (see above), I made this Key Card from The Substance (2024).

PXL_20241120_154420052.MP.jpg

I simply purchased a few white credit card blanks from Amazon, and then cut the vinyl lettering on my Cricut. The art was cleaned up from a screen capture from the film.

The.Substance.2024.1080p.Web-Dl.Ddp5.1.H264-Hfa.mkv_snapshot_00.19.20_[2024.11.17_09.16.07].jpg

No font, I manually cleaned up the screenshot in Photoshop!

The closest font is League Gothic, but it's not perfect. The film's font was designed by the production team and not released.

I thought that looked way too close to a font I had never seen before. I spend hours matching fonts and yours should have been quite a trial and you didn't mention the hours so you got the title Fontmaster. I think you can keep the title though after realizing it is a custom font and that it isn't available. That is some legit research all on its own.
