Astyanax's Makes, Builds and Acquisitions: 2025

February 26, 2025

I finally finished my Rey's Lightsaber from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. This is a KR Sabers "Rey Scavenger" saber to which I added the wrap and weathered myself.

I'm not much of a fan of the film, but the saber itself rocks!

It came all black anodized with no wrap. So I ordered a wrap kit from KR, and finished it myself:
  1. Soaked the wrap cloth pieces in hot coffee for 30 minutes.
  2. Took a file to many of the edges, wearing off the black anodizing and showing the silver underneath.
  3. Applied a light rust wash to recessed areas, dabbing off with cotton balls.
  4. Drybrushed the emitter flaps very lightly with silver to bring out the details.
  5. Applied the wrap.
I'm super stoked with how it came out!

It is a cool lightsaber- too bad it was at the very end of the movie, though

(I don't know if the tricorder was even seen in these movies. Lots of shooting going on, not so much with the scanning!)

March 5, 2025:

I received these two prop replicas from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989), purchased from a member here on the RPF.

The Cross of Coronado was made by RelicMaker, and is just about the best reproduction available these days.

I made these Holiday Cards from Severance (TV). These are specific to a scene in Season 2, Episode 7.

PXL_20250306_203511406.jpg PXL_20250306_203620111.jpg PXL_20250306_203240249.jpg

I designed the front of the card by literally tracing screenshots in the show. The shape of the star was a guess as well, because it is never shown up close. The back is also not shown on screen, so I improvised to include an in-universe seasonal sentiment.

After this, I printed the design on greeting card stock at A2 (5-1/2" x 4-1/4") size. The envelopes and box were acquired separately.

(Maybe these will be popular during the holiday season???)

I made this Torn Photo of Gemma from Severance (TV). This is specific to a couple scenes in Season 1, Episode 7.

PXL_20250307_201647753.jpg

The design of the photo comes from RPF member RafalFett , who composited the image and fleshed it out from scenes in the show.

After this, I added a retro filter, some film grain noise, and then printed it on photo stock. And then I ripped the photo and put it back together with transparent tape, trying to follow the same tear lines and tape placement we see in the show.

I finished these Hall Passes from Severance (TV), made completely from scratch!

PXL_20250311_205652762.MP.jpg PXL_20250311_205518221.jpg

The card and clip were 3D printed in resin that I had dyed prior to printing. So, no paint used at all! The label was printed on vinyl and cut with my Cricut. Very durable!
