So after nearly two years of collecting parts and building, I finally can present my Alien Motion Tracker.

First let me say a big thanks to Birdie who inspired me to build this, as well as Richie Bohach, Shawn Morgan and Steve Laboyteaux who all chipped with photos, parts and insight in how this thing should go together. I also owe a huge debt of thanks to Philip Wise and his amazing laser cutting skills for helping me make a number of these parts a reality.

So without further adieu......pictures:

I'm pretty happy with it overall. I'll follow this up with some in progress pics.

There is very little that I did that Simon didn't do. Probably the only real differences are that I was able to use a real pioneer scope for the big scope (this one is a copy) and I used what I believe to be the same green nipple thingies on the top they used on the real one.

Other than that, we both took the same approach, or more to the point, I took his approach. Simon (Birdie) was wonderful about providing insight into the build and providing details that I couldn't have figured out on my own.

Oddly, probably the hardest thing to find was the damned Vauxhall keys and tumbler. I finally made friends with a bloke in England who specialised in then, and was able to get enough for the ones I'm building. Oh yeah....I'm building 5 of them. Why?? Because that is how many TV's I found.

So this is what I started out with, a Pioneer Ranger TV

After it was dismantled, and all of the guts were pulled out of it I started adding the laser cut panels and bits to it:

The ice tray was custom made by Shawn and it's solid resin. I was able to track down some that had the right cube size and he was able to modify them to look like that.

Yay! :lol

Well done Greg, great to see a plan come to fruition, Ash would be proud :thumbsup

Thanks guys! I'm going to start finishing number 2 later today :)

Simon...I couldn't have done it without you sharing information on how to do it. That is what I love so much about this community...our sharing of information.

On a side note...the decals don't look nearly as shiney in person as they do in the pics. It's my first real work with custom printed water slides...and all in all I'm happy with them. I think the roughness feels like the movie one, and not super pristine, which is what I was going for.

James...definitely get back to building yours. There are far too few of these out in the world. I started doing final assembly on number 2 today...so maybe by the end of the week.
