ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion - Three ANH Greeblies Found

It cannot be missing… the assembly needs it as a critical structure to keep it on the sight ramp. I’ve had many, and sometimes they sit more inset depending on the condition the spring inside is in. Without the button, the whole slide would just fall off

Right; I think people aren't thinking that the entire button is 'missing', just that it may have been either filed down or have gotten stuck at some point (unless I'm mistaken?)

I don't think that is correct Scott.

The sight slider has an enclosed hole/slot that the sight leaf slides into. If assembled back on the gun without the sight slider button it will stay on the leaf but will slip back and fourth because there is no slider button to engage the grooves in the leaf to hold it in place.

Hence, when the gun is holstered in that pic, the slider slides down by gravity.

Yep, since losing my sight slider button at a rural gun range a couple years ago, mine just slides to and fro, but is still very much secured to the sight leaf.
In Scott’s defense, if there is one constant with C96 pistols it’s variation. We may each have come into contact with pistols from different eras, commercial vs military spec, and what not.

wow. if you didn't remove the drift pin to remove the sight, the slider button must have cracked and fallen out either end of the slider,
thanks for the input.

The only sight slider I have is the one from Field Marshall's steel replica which is open on the bottom (the button is what holds it together).

The one I posted a pic of a page or two back is consistent with the diagram that kpax just posted. I have another earlier model that I haven’t checked to see how the sight slider is constructed. I’m off to the gun safe to have a look.

Hm, could certainly be. The MGC I have is also like that, though I will defer to those who know more about real C96s than myself on that idea! Either way I wouldn't be surprised at all if different designs existed.

Also, in other news I think I've got my steel flash Hider properly weathered! It took a LOT of steps of bluing and polishing, scraping, brushing, bluing again, boiling, and repeating to get it looking just right! (I might still bury it in my backyard for a few weeks though haha)

Thanks! I might keep working at it a bit more just to get some rust spots on it; though I don't want to keep chasing my tail over it. It's a lot darker in person at least, the photo makes it look a lot brighter than it really is.

And I think you guys might be right on that sight slider, though again I have no idea if different variations of it exist or not. I've still yet to get a C&R license to buy a real C96 of my own, though it's on my bucket list!

There it is... I edited my post above.... I guess I've been doing so many FM replicas, that is what stuck in my head... hahaha carry on... please divert back to regular discussion.

I blame Chris V... ;)

Honest question..

Why exactly do people think this “bizaro” blaster uses the exact same base the ANH Hero? What evidence is there other than the fact that it’s a c96?? Did Bapty famously only ever have just the one. I’ve never seen any picture that even shows any details at all of that bizaro build. Infact this is probably the best one and it’s still awful to draw a likeness from no?

The only thing in this pic that we can be "fairly" certain of is the scope/mount which looks to be the same as the ANH only mounted backwards. Same configuration and proportions.

The scope is mounted much higher on this bunker blaster so the base gun is either completely different or the crossbar mount was lost and changed to the S mount because the two disk mounts were likely brazed on the frame.

Barrel could be just a extended pipe and weird FH.

Make of them what you will...

Don't see any mystery disk evidence either.... ; )

It certainly is a weird one. I’m in need of better pics and info. to drop into the thread on DL44s that I started. I’ve gone back through the discussion in this thread from page 70 onwards, and linked to an older thread on the subject, but there isn’t much to go on.
OdiWan72 did you make any headway on the flash hider?
