Here´s my WIP Han ANH blaster, still waiting for my new bull-barrel, before I can finish it.
Bolts in the thumbwheels have to be shortened and final weathering needs to be added...
Real C96, real H&W Ziel Diaylth 3x, steel conversion parts.
Even if I liked the idea of using a "worn" scope, I might swap it out to one in better condition:unsure

Here's my completed DL-44. I tried to replicate the weathering and scratches of the screen used prop the best I could, while also adding some realistic weathering from two different shades of paint drybrushing as well as rubbing a burnt umber pastel onto the surface to create grime. Tell me what you think!

Has anyone here ever tested parkerizing for finishing a flash hider? I'm curious what kind of look that might have if there's a way to control how dark it gets. From the looks of it most people using parkerizing seem to seek darker finishes when finishing firearms and such, so I suppose in order to get the lightly colored type of parkerizing you might have to go against the modern techniques of that finish a little..

The crossbar had this VERY sturdy powdercoating, that I had to remove first.
Then I simply gave it two coats of black and weathered away
The mystery disk was done similar to how clutch did it on his build.
I slightly (!) sanded the blued surface of my C96, masked the area and painted the whole gun. Then I removed the sticker...what you see is basically the original finish of the gun, but side by side to the black, it looks almost silver :thumbsup
The H&W is nice, yes.
BUT it shows some wear and tear where the front mount was attached.
That´s why I am thinking about swapping it for a better one...problem is, that the others I have are in TOO good condition and would stand out :lol

That was the anodizing, the company put it on heavy,

Clutch and OdiWan72 seem to have hit the nail on the head regarding the silver disk, IMHO. Each time I look at their photos it just seems like the right solution. I plan to do the same with mine, though I regret having to paint over the nice bluing of my Mauser. What paint have you guys been using? Black sandable primer? Flat, satin, or semi-gloss? Any tips on which brand worked best for you? And how many coats did it take to build up a satisfactory lip around the edge of the silver disk?
GBrittelleJr - your blaster looks great, the only thing that sticks out to me is the silver disk being too bright and clean. I love the grubby look and think the touch of burnt umber works nicely.

I'm going to be re-doing my Frankenstein for more loudness and was going to attempt to mask off the mystery disk and blue around it. If it doesn't work no harm no foul. If not ill get a rotary table and mill it.

Yeah, I agree. Since those photos were taken, I've dirtied up the disc. I want to mill it out, but I don't have access to the right machinery to do so. Right now it's just a 1mm thick piece of styrene glued on. And I actually used a dremel cut of wheel as size reference, since I also didn't get a sticker.

I read a good bluing tip on a gun forum. Rub the bluing liquid on with fine steel wool. It helps blend the areas together since the chemical reaction happens so quickly. I found this worked a lot better than using the cotton balls that came with the bluing kit. I reblued the entire receiver on a decommissioned 870 Remington for my Aliens Pulse Rifle and it worked really well. I had to do it about five times to get the color I wanted.
