ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion - Three ANH Greeblies Found

They made it work long enough for a few shots.

And knowing movie prop guns, it probably jammed every other take. I don't need to put many rounds through it, I just want it to function like the screen prop did. I don't plan on keeping it in a safe by my bed for home defense.:) Though imagine the look on the burglar's face if he were a Star Wars fan. And the surprise when he discovered your "toy" wasn't really so toy-like...:eek

I believe they are 1/4/20, but you can replace with metric.

We chose the 1/4 -20 because the 'checknut" thumb-nuts were a nicer style.

May be easier than finding a 1/4-20 tap.

The mag wells are thin which is why I think they silver soldiered or welded the "washer" over the threaded rod for added support. There is damage seen under the washer nut in the preproduction pics.

You can use second checknut as the front washer and epoxy it to the mag well.

No chance to replace the threaded rods with metric ones...there´s no equivalent to 1/4/20 (which would be ~M7). So I have to get a tap for that.

Don´t want to attach anything to the C96 with glue *tztztz*.
So I have to get a nut for attaching it to the mag well.

Anyone able to send me a few 1/4/20 nuts so I wouldn´t have to buy a whole sh**load :rolleyes

Thanks, Markus :)

Glad you found the taps and nuts.

Maybe it was at the SW supply shop?

We settled on 1/4 -20 with a 3/4 thumbnut since it matches the hero pics so well. M6 looked a bit small when matching the images but could work, and there were no nice thumbnuts to be found.

First step would be to take the shine off with easy-off oven cleaner. Maybe use a thinned down solution of aluminum black?

Here's a few pics of where mine sits at the moment:

I really want to replace the grips with wood ones - these are just modified MGC "Red Nine" grips. They will have to do for now. The barrel greeblies are just stuck on with double-sided tape for now. I chose to blacken my scope knobs with "Brass Black", but I might go back and paint them for accuracy...

I'm pretty happy so far!

Really great work so far, Reel Fakes! That blaster is looking awesome, great work on your knob screws and markings too. :thumbsup

I think between M2 or M2.5 Oval screws may be a tad closer to a 4mm head diameter than the ones included in the kits, I just wanted to mention in case anyone is looking for something a little closer in size with less trimming needed.

Chris,

That blaster looks great. Really nice work. I like the scuff marks on the top of the scope mounts. Looks well used. Did you use the sticker for the silver disk? I like how you've aged that area as well.

"...chose to blacken my scope knobs with "Brass Black", "

Is that "Birchwood Casey Brass Black"? I like the depth of the look, perhaps for a Mal Pistol build I am in the early stages of.

First, I sanded the area smooth and re-blued it. After that, I used one of the masking tape circles and painted the whole gun with Rustomeum black primer. You can find it in the automotive section at Walmart. I like it because you can buff it to make it shiny and it weathers very easily. After it was dry, I removed the masking tape circle and drilled a hole in the center. Then buffed it up and weathered it.

Yes it is! :)

Thanks for the compliments everyone!

Looks fantastic!

So how did you do the mystery disc? That's the only thing I'm hung up on on my frankenstein.

Delicious blaster goodness there! Are you gonna cut those scope ring screws? I've found that the pot metal will darken over time, so I'm gonna let my mystery disc age naturally. I was thinking about diluting the gun blue again but that stuff works fast.

beauteous...

... just so everyone knows, there is a "bill me later" option if that helps for the second run.

Guys I'd like to import a MGC Mauser to Australia. Replicas are allowed in some states here but with some restrictions. I got a Master Replica ESB here no problem. So I'm applying for a permit to import and need some details. Does the MGC cycle and eject dummy round or are there different versions that don't. My local customs are funny about anything that cycles. I think that a demountable magazine is ok but they don't like guns that can fire caps though. All very strange considering there's a collectors armory here with loads of working replica guns! Hope this is the right thread but its all in the name of a great blaster build

Many MGCs cycle, some don´t - both versions were made and sold, they have the same mechanical parts and function, only difference is the barrel (one massive and one hollow with steelrod and with chamber).

But non cycling ones are definately out there (i have several), you just need to check before buying.

Thanks for that though it remains to be seen if Customs will play ball... All research says they're fickle which doesn't help expensive imports...

Hello

Just to be curious are those Hawker Tomtit Engine Cylinders that were part of the old Vernon RC kit (for the ANH Blaster grill) still available "somewhere" for purchase.

Thanks
