ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion - Three ANH Greeblies Found

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion

Thanks Kpax,
I'll just post in the 'WTB' sections in the Junkyard

It'll be an ongoing mission...to get an M3 Flash Hider.

So who can help out Caveneau?
The GunBroker listing is for 5 New from old stock FHs for $65! They are in France...

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion

This is the Reticle we are including in the scope. It is an accurate replica of the HERO style HW 3X scope.

The Reticle will be interchangeable or customizable if you so desire.

just wanted to be sure everybody knew we had the sale thread open and are ready to start the run when enough people are signed up.

http://www.therpf.com/f13/anh-hero-d...21/index3.html

It should take about 6 weeks for all the orders to be filled (up to about 75 KITs) after the run is started.

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion

.. It's awfully quiet around here...

just a reminder of these parts prices:

In the black anodized Aluminum kit it kinda breaks down like this: (plus of minus a few dollars depending on final configuration and options)

Flash Hider $80
Scope Mount $117
Scope $117
Front Grill $25
Antenna and Track $25
Barrel $18
booster $20

The Steel kit is only a little more.

For the quality of these parts and materials, I think these are outstanding prices and a once in a lifetime opportunity.

I'm not sure why there are not more orders for these incredible parts but would like to know if there is anything else we can do to get this project under way. After over a year of research and development and effort put in to this project, we want to be sure we have provided the very best quality we could.

Feel free to express your concerns and thoughts so we can try to address them and start making these parts !

Please check out the sale thread!

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion

I'm not sure if anyone knows the exact timeline placement of the photos or not but that photo is what I've always assumed to be one of at least two pre-production photos taken that show the blaster how it came from Bapty, before the SW prop guys got their hands on it and added the Paint, Disk, Grills, Barrel Greeblie and Weathering.

If the SW guys indeed added those details rather than being revisions made by Bapty themselves after the pre-pro photos, the mystery disk seems more likely to be just masked off into the black Paint that the SW guys or whoever added. Also aside from the few custom machined and fabricated items here and there(i.e. Vader), in ANH the prop guys didn't show really any evidence of having access to the kind of machinery or experience needed to Mill in the Mystery disk as perfect as it looks. So to me the disk seems likely to be just masked into the paint whenever the paint was added. And like lonepigeon has said, the Imperial greeblie may somehow be involved in the 'mystery' of the disk too.

I would always love to find out more about the true order of events that resulted in this beautiful blaster! :love

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion

this is all true, but one observation.

In other photos, the HERO shows the Mystery Disk as very silvery or raw metal.

IF the disk area was a glued on Imperial Disk, then why the missing "gun blueing"?

The masked area "should" still have bluing under it. We have seen other areas on the HERO that show evidence of where things were glued and the dark bluing remains underneath.

Remember the area above the Disk on the receiver we discovered?

The missing Antenna, still blue/black under it. It did not rip off the color.

So why is the Disk area alone Silver? I doubt they would meticulously remove the Bluing in a perfect circle there to get a better gluing surface and NOT remove it anywhere else.

It is a Mystery !

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion

It wouldn't work if the Imperial disk greeblie ripped off and took the paint with it, revealing bare metal, but what if the Imp disk was painted silver and the disk ripped off, but left the silver paint behind on the Mauser's side?

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion

The problem with this observation is that it is based, largely, on black and white high-contrast photos. What we are seeing isn't necessarily a "silver" disc it is merely an area that is a lighter tone than that around it. In the few color photos where it is visible it looks more "steel colored" in my opinion which would support the area being a gun metal color (which covers a lot of area).

The other factor that I would suggest as a possible contribution is that whatever glue they used may have reacted with the bluing on the pistol and "cleaned" the area leaving either shining up the gunmetal finish or even removing it leaving a bare steel patch when it fell off. I don't know about you guys but I have actually seen this happen before (although not on a weapon).

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion

I agree that there seems to be something else going on there, the exposed metal does seem to be a bit lighter than I realized in the disk and chipped areas. To me it seems whether masked in or milled the disk looks like it may be intentional. I'm not sure if an imperial disk was glued on or not but the size is mighty close. And as mentioned by someone earlier on, the Merr Sonns had the Imp disk right around the same area as the DL-44's mystery disk.

Since the Imperial disk was just that, Imperial, I wonder if they intended to make the DL-44 look as though it 'had' an Imp disk on it at one point along with the added weathering? You know, since Han's character wouldn't likely want an Imperial insignia or emblem on his Blaster. Very tough to tell for sure!

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion

Yeah, until some better reference comes along this is just another detail we'll have fun obsessing over and endlessly debating. As far as the disc being "Imperial" they're all over Chewbacca's Bowcaster so maybe they're cutting it some slack lol.

Also from an expanded universe stance wasn't Solo supposed to be an Imperial Officer Candidate at some point in his past? Also I suppose you could stretch a point that his DL-44 is a modified Military issue blaster (if you're into that sort of thing).

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion

Anyone ever see another Mauser with a differently/under-machined ledge on the right side between the bolt and the bolt stopper? I noticed the ESB Stunt has this oddly machined lump, which I've never seen on any real Mauser.

Obviously the first explanation could be that the lump is from the filling process before casting the stunt blasters. But it seems to me that this ledge was cast into the ESB stunt blasters because the ledge was on the ANH Mauser that is was cast from. The ANH Hero shows evidence of this lumpy ledge being a machining flaw or variance in that particular Mauser.

Interesting!

Are you able to share the high res pics of the ESB stunt DL44?

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion

good spotting...

There does seem to be something there on the HERO receiver that causes an overhang in that spot. On the other side it is like other c96s.

strange new detail?

Sure, those close ups are from photos in a thread started by Rymo for SW exhibit photos.

Star Wars exhibit - Lots of Pics

I would love to see more quality photos of the ESB stunt! Not only to find out more about this ledge, but there might be something else there that we should see.

The ANH Mauser is turning out to be even more unique than I realized. :love

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion

I think that's a ROTJ stunt, it has that Scope mount. The ESB was quite different. I think the Exhibit just has it marked wrong - they're not as serious about props as we are :lol

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion

Good catch, it does appear to be the ROTJ stunt. But that should be the same exact cast Mauser base as the ESB stunt except with a different Mount and such attached.

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion

Guys, please tell me not all Denix are like this. There isn't a straight line on this gun. It would be sacrilege to put anything on this turd. I've posted a couple of side by side to my MGC:
