ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion - Three ANH Greeblies Found

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion

Yeah, my guess was under $500. But it's just a guess. But the more interested, the better price. :thumbsup

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion

I'm always concerned about "tone" in posting. So, I hope mine did not come off as a negative? I'm VERY enthusiastic about this run and have ample funds reserved for it.

But I was trying to offer a reason why response to the run may not be as great as expected...yet. Once the official FS post is up with pricing, I'll bet you see much more response and it will slowly make its way through the interwebs to other fan groupings that don't frequent here.

To mis-quote Field of Dreams..."Once you price it, they will come."

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion

We are glad to hear comments and concerns. I'm sure people are being reserved about this project and are waiting to hear the prices as you say. The way Carson and I look at it is that this is a group effort and everyone who has followed and expressed opinions drove this project along and made it much better than I for one ever hoped for.

I started here just wanting decent parts to build a model for my nephew. I was able to make some myself that were OK but the details were not correct. With so many members eyes on this project, I think we nailed 99.9 % of the accuracy of the real parts with available reference.

There are details on these parts that were discovered here for the first time in 30 years and the RPF members should be proud.

With that said, Carson will be posting the complete list of parts and options shortly. It is very comprehensive. There are many options and KITs to choose from to suit your needs and budgets.

There are 20 +- parts and KIT options to choose from.

Of course the All Steel KIT parts will be higher priced BUT if the Steel KIT is purchased there is a very generous discount. Same with any KIT. So I hope the numbers of orders are there as hoped.

I know everyone is anxious for the pricing so here are some just to get an idea where we came in.

We managed to keep the Aluminum KIT at the $400 level (give or take a few dollars depending on some small details.) and that is with ALL the parts we described and Anoidized a proper Custom Blue/Black and Grayish for the FH (matching the promo photos.)

The Steel/ Brass Scope replica will be well under $200 as a separate part and a little less in the KIT. This is with Domed Glass lenses and reticle as well as working knob and engravings (knob and side). There are 17 separate parts in the Scope alone!

We tried to make the parts as perfect as possible and also keep it reasonable.

I hope people do take advantage of this run because of the extreme accuracy, detail and quality we are able to offer, which is only possible because of the research of the members and the dedicated 3d modeling of Deadbolt which would have cost a small fortune to have developed, and would probably double the cost of these parts if added in.

Wow. Yes! Thank you to Pat and Carson.
This is truly one of the greatest chances to get access to such detailed parts, and with such variety. Thanks guys.
Keep nagging people to get their orders in ASAP, if they haven't already.
Great work, man, great work..
(y)thumbsup

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion

If all goes well, we could be cutting metal in a few weeks!

Keep your eyes open for the sale thread from Carson and get your orders in asap. As soon as he gets enough orders he will begin the run.

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion

Here is a test of the Hex/ball knurl of the Scope knob.

The brass is still rough and the pattern needs some tweaking but it looks great so far.

The knurl is very unique as you know.

This shows how the pattern matches the knob knurl exactly and should look great finished. No simple cross hatch diamond knurl for this project! :)

Great work Carson! The sale thread is very comprehensive and complete!

The shop is ready to start as soon as there are enough orders posted.

Here is a better pic of the knurling pattern for the scope knob. Gonna be sweet.

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion

Are my eyes deceiving me? The original appears to be round, while that is a pattern of hexagons? Still looks good though.

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion

glad you asked...

Here is a better photo.

originally we were going to make a temporary knurl tool that would have round Ball type buttons because that was to only way to cut it in reverse for the tool.... but we lucked out and our shop can cut the accurate knurl in solid in the hex pattern as shown. The knobs look like round nubs because they are so small and covered with paint and the tops are smoothed... ours will be as well!

...most impressive...

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion

Well I'd say that's spot on then!!

I´m not sure, from that pic it looks to me like pressed in hex, not like hex-shaped bubbles on the original.

A effect that can happen when the knurling tool has not enough cooling fluid, wrong speed, stucking metalflakes, ........., and sometimes even just a bad karma. Knurling can be a real pain.

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by pressed in hex. If you were referring to out new knurl it is "cut" with a v shaped engraving cutter. The brass sample just has not been cleaned up yet. This was only a test for the programing for size and shape. I have a video of it, just can't figure out how to post it.

But it sure looks spot on to me when compared to the ultra CU of an original HW knob.

However it was done, ours will look just like it when finished.

Gotta keep in mind that at the real scale these "dots" are very very small, .7mm! so unless you are looking at the knob with a jewelers loop, you wont be able to tell whether they are dots or hexs', but it will be nice to know that this degree of detail is being put in to these parts.

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion

Maybe it's because I don't live in the US, but I don't think I'll be able to purchase an 'M3 Flash Hider'.

There's 5 available here at Gunbroker
M3 Grease Gun Flash Hider M9 Flash Hider Cone : Collectible Gun Parts & Accessories at GunBroker.com

but it won't let me purchase.

I might have to get someone from the RPF to buy it for me

So who can help out Caveneau?
The GunBroker listing is for 5 New from old stock FHs for $65! They are in France...

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion

I mean the hole in the top - on standard knurling it´s seen as a missing top part of the "pyramid".

It happens to me very often when knurling - and i hate it every time. :lol

Oh I see waht you mean... but that is not a hole, just a shadow. The cutter lifted some chips there. (maybe he used a dull cutter just for the test) Look at the entire image, you can see that it is just a shadow of the chips.
Once this is rubbed with a scotchbrite it will be perfect.
