ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion - Three ANH Greeblies Found

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion - Three ANH Greeblies FOUND, Update in 1st Post

Scottjua, I have been wanting to put sound into my blaster for some time and I am happy you did it. I am sure others have but this is the first one I have seen and heard!

Wow, that's really cool! Great work on that blaster, scottjua. It's very interesting to see one with sound in it already.

Gentlemen

I picked up my parts at the customs office last friday, but just had the chance for a closer inspection...

all seems to be machined very well and the finish on the powdercoated alu parts as well as the black oxide steel parts is great.

However, I realised that the easy fit steel barrel of my kit leaves a small gap once put on my real C96. At first I thought it was just machined that way, but a second view revealed that the sharp edge that sits against the upper receiver is slightly bent inwards...possibly causing the gap.

Could anyone with a steel easy fit bull barrel please post pics of the beveled end so I can see if it is a general issue or just present on my set!?

Many thanks in advance!

Markus

won't be able to resize and upload these until tomorrow evening

can post a pic of the parts dryfitted to my real c96 then as well :)

Thanks :thumbsup

My barrel is in the shop, so I can't take a pic. I seem to remember it being flat.

Yes, please! :popcorn

On a side note, I finally made it out to the store to pick up some Perma Blue. I'm pretty happy with the results so far. If I were to do it again, which I probably will, I'll heat the parts up right before bluing. Either way, here they are with a few applications (at least 5, though I don't think it got any darker after maybe 3)...

And a rough fitting of the parts on my Denix.

There is still some work left to do. The super detail people will notice the hammer is missing. Somehow I broke the spring for it, so I will have to fab a new one before it gets completely reassembled. The grill is not on due to clearance issues with the scope mount bar. I don't want to shave the grill, so I think for now I will just add some washers to space the bar out farther. Plus the Denix needs full makeover.

I'm hoping to snag some wood grips soon and get those mounted soon. Shooting to eventually find a real C96. For the meantime, this will do. Weighs a bit over 4 pounds. Definitely gives the impression of being real.

Huge thanks to deadbolt, kpax, and Dark Energy Creations for making this kit happen!!!! :thumbsup :love :love

Oh man that's nice! I need to get some time to blue my mgc bottom half.

...looks real good on the Denix. and the finish looks great.

where is the gap/issue?

hard to tell. It is steel and should not be "bent"

There could be a gap due to the bullbarrel not sliding all the way over the Mauser barrel upper receiver bevels. The receiver end of the bull barrel is very thin and sharp to give the best look without altering the real Mauser barrels but there is only so much room to play with.

We thought that if anyone wanted a tighter /closer fit they could grind/file the INSIDE of the bull barrel hole and knock off the corners quite a bit to replicate the shape of the mauser barrel taper and that would form a custom fit.

post a pic when you can...

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion - Three ANH Greeblies FOUND, Update in 1st Post

@Pinder91 - That looks fantastic! Nice blueing job. I've got a Mauser and scope coming (and hopefully parts similar to yours after a 2nd run!) that are going to need some re-blueing, so I've been reading up on it. Yours looks like it came out as well as can be imagined. Any special tips and do you plan to weather everything?

Exactly my thought, it should not be bent, but it is.
This "thin and sharp" edge of the bull barrel is slightly bent inwards, causing a small gap where it normally would fit flush against the C96 upper. It´s not much, but enough to bother me PLUS there´s a small dent on the edge :confused

Will post a pic later tonight...anyway, I´d appreciate a pic of the beveled end of a steel -easy fit- barrel for comparsion :thumbsup

Thanks, guys! I need to take better pictures. I'm happy with the bluing, but it's far from perfect. I have a feeling I did not clean some of the parts well enough as a few almost have a motor oil in water thing going on. I suppose it adds character. :facepalm

No intentions of weathering except for the cross bar to match shots of the hero (that's the plan anyway). I assume the rest will weather naturally since I can't keep my hands off it. Especially while I'm forming a holster to it. Though I may do something with the flash hider.

Here is a fitting guide as well as a comparison for Markus.

Note that the inside bevels can be filed or ground a bit to allow the bull barrel to slide back further on the Mauser barrel.

You can also bevel the top chamfers more like I did.

The steel on the edge is very thin and sharp so it will look like the HERO and not stick out.

Being thin it is conceivable that it was bent in shipment/customs. Please post a pic so we can see. I cant picture how being bent inward can make a gap.

If it is bent but not too bad, you can simply get a wooden dowel, broom handle etc about the right size and gently tap the dent out.

I actually bent mine Outward because I was trying to bang the barrel further on to the upper and the upper Mauser barrel close to the receiver starts to widen which is why you need t file the bottom of the barrel a little to get the best look. I just tapped it back in place.

Here you go...

let´s start with a group shot of the parts while unpacking them:

Now a picture of my real C96 with the steel parts dryfitted to it...nice, huh!? ;)
21187-img-1360.jpg

As you can see I´m having the same "problem" with the grill, slightly lifting the crossbar:
21188-img-1361.jpg

And here´s the steel barrel I was talking about. See the small gap, the wavey/ bent sharp beveled edge with its small dent and the "line", created by an extra step in the bevels!?

Here´s an alu easy fit barrel for comparsion...tight fit, no gaps :thumbsup
