Angelica Teach:The woman, the myth, the COSTUME thread

Yeah! Hat shipped today!

I am going to have to say the pheasant feathers I saw at Michaels and JoAnns were too short. They are at least 2 1/2 to 3 feet long judging from some of the images. They are lo-ooooooooooooooooooooooooooo-ng!:eek

Wow...Well then I guess JoAnnes won't work. :lol

As I said I was bored last night and was fooling around with the stuff that I had. The hat was a pain. I think I'm turning it back to a tricorner. ;)
CJS, Did you go with that musketeer hat from the costume shop? Would you mind posting your remarks about it once you get it? I think I'm going custom with DirtyBillys, but I am curious how accurate your hat is once in hand.
Dang, I wish more pics were available of this costume!

I showed the lady at Stone Mountain a pic of the gimp. She told me that the loops appear to be for buttons. I did find one, VERY similar, but it was about 1/2 inch wide at the most and in white. >>>clip<<<

Hmmm, maybe then if the loops were made for buttons we need to concentrate the search in bridal trim!??
If any of you find any wide enough in ANY color latch hold of it cause we can PAINT it gold!!

Great pics Sparrowed especially for just messing around with what was on hand!!

ADDENDUM

Here's a couple of wide, but maybe too fancy gimp trims, if we could find them in gold or take after them with the gold metallic paint...
1 inch white
1 inch black

The backing on Angelica's gold gimp looks like it is like the backing on this pearl loops version......

You know since not very much is needed and if we never find anything better or close enough or suitable at all, it would not be that hard to make our own. If we got something like the pearl stuff is on, or get the pearl stuff and take the pearls off, then sew or glue our own big loops on it....
Just a thought......

Thats what the woman said at Stone Mountain. The trim I had found that was similar but in white was bridal trim, and all those loops were for buttons. Thats why she suggested that i go to that corset store because they specialized in bridal and other fancy occasion trim.
I'll check it out next week.
I was looking for a possible (what a joke!) new image of the vest fabric (no luck) but came across this hat that Penelope is wearing in Bandidas. It looks the same to me, but tan.

Alright my Angelica "peeps!" It is time for some input and opinion. I am going to post this for the other peeps over on RPF so either place for input will suffice.

Here is the material I plan to use for the corset (cincher now I am being told) gold trim. I chose three different types of gold string both in design and color. Give me your opinion as to which you feel is the best!

Here are the three types of string:

This is the curtain trim that I found. I simply removed the tassels.

String 1:

String 2:

String 3:

I personally like String 3 however I think it may be a little too thick.

Speaking of which I found that same 5/8 inch trim at JoAnns. Not very big and was pretty frustrating to see how small it was BUT the good news is when I saw the plethora of GOLD material I was easily excited.

By the way the hat arrived. Here it is. Made of 100% polyester and the buckle is plastic. All the parts are glued onto the hat but not anymore on mine!

That looks great. I like the #3 for the great color match even if the cord is a wee bit big, though it is hard to really tell in 2D, but taking your word for it since you're seeing it in 3D........

Do you think you could take a little glue stick at it and plaster those
little scalloped threads to the back so that base piece would be straight.....

Also, if that cord is only a wee bit too big, and it looks to be rayon or something that would absorb, you could skinny it up a bit by soaking it in some watered down fabric glue and tightening the twist. Check a piece first to make sure the glue doesn't ruin it.....you could also do this with fabric starch.......

Tie a knot in each end of a piece. Soak it in the watered down glue--half-n-half or less on the glue ought to do--then pin one end down to a piece of cardboard over laid with plastic wrap. Twist the cord in the direction it is already twisted until it's smaller, and pin down the other end. Dab off any excess glue that oozes out and let it dry. You may have to stick some pins along the length to keep it tight and straight.

The hat looks great. Love it!

Those trims are very nice. I haven't found anything like the above.

The trim has arrived. It will be interesting to see how the over look all, will work. I am still working on the belt .
Version 1 with full size baldric buckle (which appears too big)

Version 2 with smaller buckle and existing belt.

Version 2 seems to work the best. The smaller buckle came from Singapour (where else would you buy Pirates accessories?)

CJS] The hat looks great, and I also agree that your #3 is a better choice of the ones you showed.

It's a little late, but
I found some trim also:

It's never too late, Sparrowed! Not even when you're heading out the door!

I really liked these two that you found. The top one could be modded with some cord laid over it and the bottom with the gold paint treatment!

In fact, it may be just like the black trim, the pic's still blurry enough that I can't make out what that base strip really looks like? Not that that really matters as long as the overall look and feel gets ya close...IMO.....

Your belt's looking good, bpearl.

Just a note: I never did go back and get the info on that other possible Jack sash fabric...
but here is another I ran across online, could do in a pinch. It says, "Largest red stripe measures about 3/8" wide." At least you can get a sample of it for a dollar, if anyone is interested.

I am so fed up with looking for fabric, that I've gone vector, and will be trying to modify some paisley flowers to match the pattern.

Question: Do those look like "dots" or small flowers OR, are the mystery dots attached to the outside border of the flower? I know, I know...it's hard to see, but with the image we have TO ME it looks like it is part of the paisley leaf/petal...?

I'll fool around with my Photoshop and show you what I come up with!

I will be interested to see what you come up with.

Hey everybody!! I'm super disappointed that with the flood of new OST pics posted over the weekend, there are none of the elusive paisley. I'm back to work, and my daughter is back in school, so needless to say, I've been really busy. I will however work on that paisley tonight, and hopefully have something posted for tomorrow IF anyone is still interested in fabric printing.

Let us hope the Paparazzi in the UK get some better shots out with closeups. That is if Penelope Cruz is going to be filming in the UK. :confused

So I think I ended my find with Waverly Pretty Paisley line. It was impossible finding the other Penzance Paisley locally and ordering a swatch plus shipping was the same amount of money as 1 yard.

I went to JoAnns and went with Waveryly Pretty Paisley black and white. Black background with white paisley pattern. Each paisley has a little tan in it as well. 50% off coupon and an October 8th deadline. I also found a nice 100% cotton reddish brown material for the back panel. It is matte on one side and shiny on the other side. Same material but in black for the liner. All the materials are 100% cotton.

I also found this version as and I am going to order some as well in order to compare the two. I tend to like this version better so maybe in the future the waistcoat can be redone. But that is up to my seamistress!

Corset / cincher trim is almost done but I ran out of the gold rope. Off to the store again today! Will post pics tonight. And after that I can finally focus back on Jack. I am going to wait a few more weeks to see if any new pics come from the shoot down in Puerto Rico. I hope to have a "fill in" understudy baldric made soon but again waiting for more pics. If not I will wing it for Halloween and redo before the premiere.

That's really nice CJS! A VERY CLOSE MATCH indeed! :D
I was sketching for a while last night, but with the possibility of promos being photographed while they are in Palominito, I'm going to wait ...a bit longer for a *fingers crossed* waistcoat pattern leak! lol
