So, I got the blaster, the manifesto and the credits. Anyone have any idea what was used as a base for this box? This is how I’d like to display my props when all is said and done. At first I thought it was one of those metal “briefcases” (see pic) but maybe not as it doesn’t open with a hinge, but like a gift box. . Is that a computer case maybe?

Also if anyone can ID that scope in there. Pretty sure that’s gonna make an appearance in S2 given the new trailer, so I might as well add that to the mix. I don’t think anyone is going to bother making the other Pre-Mor pistol, so that should do it.

Thanks!

Here’s a better pic of the scope.

That case looks completely custom made. But, I will include on my ID list.

I think you’re right. Even having a base metal box of the same shape wouldn’t really do much as all of those panels, knobs and locks would have to be added. I may have to let this one go and just put everything on a shelf or use the metal case like I pictured and try to mod it a bit.

I don’t think I’m skilled enough for that. Thanks for the nice clear pics! I seriously need to get a laptop or something. It’s completely inefficient trying to use source photos while painting props from a phone. I’ll do something over the weekend thinking it’s perfect the view the pic at work on Monday and it’s not even close.

That may very well be true, but all you need is paint, brush and canvas to make a picture, only I don’t think I’ll be pumping out landscapes any time soon. ;)

I feel like a lot of that paneling, especially the center piece, would print up nicely rather than attempting to cut it, no? I wish I had the skills for that, too! I really should at least get a printer and learn how to use that at the very least.

Anyway, I took one for the team this morning. I dunno if anyone saw this. There’s a bunch on Etsy, but none of them look right. Either too big, too small, painted on settings or wrong chains. I’ve had my eye on this official one, but up until recently it was not able to be ordered. I’m pretty sure it didn’t even have a preorder option. Today I checked and it was in stock.

Looking at the pics, some make it look much larger than others. It’s probably gonna be too thin in any event, but it says it’s 7cm and that seems about right me. The setting is metal and chain looks better than anything else I’ve seen.

I didn’t see any in-hand pics anywhere nor is there one listed on eBay, which is always weird. I’d expect some flipper to attempt to get $100 for it even though it’s in-stock elsewhere, so we’ll see what happens. Hopefully it’s perfect. I looked at the manufacturers other stuff and they seem pretty decent.

Nothing fancy like a 3d printer needed.
I made all the staff and pack parts for my nieces Rey costume from nothing more than found parts, plastic and epoxy putty using all the parts I listed.

It's more a matter of trying then waiting for someone else to do it for you.

That’s awesome! I agree, crafty people can cobble together anything. I just gotta pick my battles, I guess. I know how to paint and put things together ect, but I don’t have the patience for troubleshooting and designing a box from scratch like that. Not saying it’s not doable, just not my thing, I guess.

Don’t get me wrong, I love trying new things and I don’t like asking or waiting on anyone to do things for me. In fact, I had an instance recently where I attempted to get advice on weathering a pair of coveralls. What did I get? Not advice. Just comments that I should buy this or do that or pay someone $300 for a custom pair ect. Finally I said, screw it. They’re $30 off Amazon. If I mess it up I’ll buy new ones and proceeded to do it completely on my own. No clue what I was doing. I kicked them around the parking lot of Walmart. Scuffed then on the curb. Even put em on and rolled around in the dirt lol. Guess what? They came out awesome. From almost Kelly green to what you see below.

Now you’re talking me into trying it haha.

I like your use of springs from cloths pegs on the collet part, very creative.

You could get a cheap plastic flight case and add thin styrene sheet over the top, the part in the middle of the case reminds me of a hot tub mushroom or some type of filter cap

I have this. Been making literal use of the word flight as it’s been storing the my old pilot books. That’s definitely what I wanted to use as a base, but clearly I’d need something smaller.

I could certainly start with a smaller case then attempt to make the black template for the top to start and see what happens.

Edit: that’s won’t work. The box in the show has a larger top that fits over the bottom. These cases aren’t like that. Also, I painted that silver section on my Bryar like crap lol. Time to fix that.

The clay idea is very clever! I’ll have to remember that. I could have used that on my boots when they were new, but I wear them and they get weathered on their own.

And thank you! I actually sprayed the faded areas with diluted bleach and hung them out in the sun for 2 weeks. By hung I mean strapped to the roof of my car. I dunno what the neighbors must have thought

That got me thinking, maybe the cover of a smoke detector? Even has the little red led in the same spot where the test alarm button is.

I have been wondering what these were since the they first appeared. I decided to try a random search yesterday and sure enough!

Now I’m on the hunt! A full box ended on ebay in January, so all hope is not lost lol

Well, it came today. I have mixed thoughts about if, but overall it’s a pretty nice piece for the money. It was so hard to tell the size from the pics listed, but it’s perfectly to scale. Pretty close to the exact shape. Where it shines are the chain and setting. Those are pretty damn screen accurate and better than anything being offered on Etsy or the like. Where it doesn’t stack up so well is the crystal itself. It’s not clear at the bottom as it should be, but totally an opaque white.

I guess if you were really wanting 100% screen accuracy you could have one of the Etsy people make you a crystal to put into this fitting and chain somehow. Maybe even send them the whole necklace and see if they can do it for you, i dunno.

Overall I’m pretty happy with it. It’ll definitely go into my display.
