Am I REALLY the only one disappointed with TFA?

Just got back from seeing it. I liked it, I knew I would......way too much talent behind the scenes to make a stinker. I noticed the Disney machine hard at work and it was polished to the max. And thats the problem. You see, audiophiles say the best sound comes from vinyl because it has a little background noise. Pop here, hiss there. I could see the formula 20 minutes in, but was wishing for a surprise. Nope, non stop chase scene with the Death Star being blown up at the end.

Fin came off as more intellectual Jar Jar comic relief character. His jokes were the modern version of 'Whatcha Talkin about Willis'. They fit in with today's culture but will be dated soon.

Funny moment. When Rey first got the Falcon airborne, she was bumping into everything. As a Falcon builder....I actually moaned aloud. The guy next to me looked at me like I just saw a puppy get kicked.

I didn't see that similarity at all. It was a great mix of cast and showed a side of the First Order that there must be others who must sense the same thing wrong with them. This is the first i've seen a Stormtrooper turn his back on their own side like that.

For me to be disappointed, I would have needed high expectations, I didn't. I love the OOT but the PT taught me not to expect magic once you've looked behind the curtain. I enjoyed the hell out of it, warts and all. It's just a fun film and jammed with nostalgia for a guy like me. Maybe that means I'm not a "serious" fan just part of the rabble. :) I said this in the other thread, The Greatest Fan Film ever made! If you don't like it you have only one person to blame...George Lucas! ;)

Who decided exactly what we can talk about!!???

If a movie was vey poorly executed should we not be able to say so mein Fuhrer?
. No one did, it's just the matter of being negative and ranting and moaning. I'm not trying to **** anyone off I just wish people could use self control and take there negativity somewhere else.

Thanks for sharing this. This article is exactly the type of thoughtful/respectful debate that, for me, elevates the discussion. It also perfectly encompasses my conflicted feelings about TFA.

And all of us should be concerned what it means that nostalgia driven rebooquels are being made huge hits. That means more of them coming.
So you already have a ton of films that are sequels and remakes, now on top of that a new category the megabuster nostalgia rebooquel? JW and TFA our first two, or three.. the latest Terminator seems to qualify.
So when you want new stories and risk taking on creative directions, why wouldn't a studio double down on give the fans what they want instead?
Nobody wanted Star Wars 77. For the public, it just happened. It wasn't give them what they want there ... more like give them what they never knew they needed.
There have been some big bombs on more creative very expensive films, but they were simply not good films. Jupiter Ascending and Tomorrowland for example.
So what are studios more likely to produce?
I get it's a business, I get that Star Wars sells tons of toys and products, but I'm a little freaked out out how receptive fans and the reviews are so far to them since it's so different from my reception. I'm usually not that out of whack.
I hope the nostalgia driven rebooquel is confined to a few films of mega franchises and we can move on to new ground. I think
they are limited by source materials. How many dormant franchises are there that can be done this way?
Obviously fans are tolerant at first, certainly that tolerance is perishable?

Seriously bro!!! You cry "use self control"?

And you wish people would take the negativity somewhere else... Like.... Let's say..... Oh, I don't know.... Maybe into a thread AWAY from the rest of the discussion?.... Away from the other thread.... And into one designated area? Like THIS ONE?
Hmmmm.... What a novel idea!

Now if people who don't want to read it or hear any negativity could use "self control" and not open this thread and just avoid it.
You are the one who keeps coming in here and complaining that you have to read these comments. Nobody is making you open it.

Yeah, Not gonna lie, I have no self control about jumping into this thread and commenting. It's like a Y wing doing it's bombing run...oh wait those were missing in the TFA

I"m not sad. I can cuddle my MR Y-Wing and feel all at home in the OT, oh so many model kits parts. mmmmmmmmmmmm
JJ didn't touch you.

Got nothing better to do than complain, Thanks for proving my point…..Bro !!!!

Now I liked TFA a lot,a whole lot in fact so I'm gonna burn some bridges and set some arses afire here-I said this I believe here and on another forum I go to and I quote myself slightly and loosely:

"the original Star Wars series kinda sucks if you really look at it,the films all take place in three parts i.e. the first we have Luke on Tattoine (or however it's spelled),then the Death Star,Then the Rebel base and blowing up the Death Star, after a dozen viewings you can get burned out on how simple they are"

I still stand by that, but after the first sneek peek at TFA I started to like SW again and now after SEEING it I can say the film isn't perfect but it's a damn shot better then most of the prequels.

In the end TFA comes down to if you can just shut down and enjoy yourself or if you have a constant need to be critical and pick things apart and annoy any and every one around you,I could drive people nuts with all I didn't like with ANH and ESB and I know I could make someone hang themselves or murder me if I went on a rant about ROTJ but guess what? I don't.

I also can say I can see a use for this thread for the nit picking crazies we're sure to have so I think this thread should stay and you people can have fun picking fleas off a giant baboon's back for all I care because no matter how you look at it if you sit and go thorough ALL the SW films they ALL suck in some way.

Two words: "Droid, please." It was funny, but I think that line will come back to haunt them simply because it's already dated and doesn't really fit in the Star Wars universe. George Lucas' dialogue may not have been Shakespearean prose, but he was careful about not including modern-day slang words and/or phrases that would soon fall out of common usage.

...Funny moment. When Rey first got the Falcon airborne, she was bumping into everything. As a Falcon builder....I actually moaned aloud. The guy next to me looked at me like I just saw a puppy get kicked.
That, and subsequent scenes featuring the Falcon (crashing through trees, skipping off of snow-covered ground like a rock across the surface of a pond), bothered me. In the real world, regardless of how some fans might go on and on about fictional technology and materials, the Falcon would have been considerably more damaged than it was. And, even if it hadn't, the characters would have incurred some forms of injuries from all of that bouncing around.

Also, in the dogfight sequence in which Poe Dameron is taking out TIE Fighters like they were static targets, his X-Wing didn't move like it would have if they had taken aerodynamics into consideration. Again, some fans might argue "technology" or some such, but it's movements were so unrealistic that I felt like I was watching someone play a video game.

You came BACK into this thread again because of lack of self control... So THANK YOU for proving MY point...BRO!
Now move along.... Remember you don't want to read this negativity. Buh-bye! ;)
. unfortunately I get an email whenever you respond so I have to read your responses . I did not come here to argue " I'm not the droid your looking for so move along" LOL no hard feelings intended I'm done reading your responses, after all were two grown men( I think ) arguing on the Internet,Again no hard feelings Live Long And Prosper( oh wait wrong series) :)

Yeah- 'Droid, please' was bad. Even 'Mumbo Jumbo' was questionable. But Lucas did include a Tarzan yell, so nobody's innocent.

And maybe the Falcon's shields helped, but I didn't like the multiple crashes either. Rey hit everything on the way out of Jakuu. Like my grandma trying to get out of the grocery parking lot.

I think the one cringe worthy like for me is Fin yelling "Now that's some good piloting!" or whatever he yells after watching Poe knock out a bunch of ties...

It's the same cringe I had when they did the same thing in "Starship Troopers"... when someone refers to Denise Richards as a "Crazy pilot"... then a little later in the flick this exchange happens:

Radio operator: [voice] What is your location?
Johnny Rico: Come down on this transmission.
Radio operator: [voice] On the outpost? That's crazy!
Johnny Rico: Well, I hope you have a crazy pilot. Out.
