Am I REALLY the only one disappointed with TFA?

IMO this was a good way to spend 2 hours and 16 minutes. I was entertained. I am not sure when Star Wars had to be Shakespeare. This movie is unfortunately a product of the times. It is meant to appeal to everyone and offend no one. Doesn't mean it was horrible and it doesn't mean it was great. I enjoyed it, I wish they had done things differently but it is what it is. This movie was designed to introduce Star Wars to a new young fan base with new characters and that is what it did.

Aaaaand the last three people just proved you are correct :lol

Exactly. LOL
A little corner of the interwebz gets made for those of us that are not bowing in reverence, and it must not go unchallenged?

I'll take it as vindication....

"I must have hit pretty close to the mark to get her all riled up like that, huh, kid?"

Now for us "Haters"... LOL

Going forward, this film does nothing to advance the SW story to fresh ground.
We are left with a lot of the same things in place as set up for basically another ESB.

The new empire will certainly... strike back.
The new Luke will be trained by LukeYoda no doubt.
Obviously some family relations will be gasp.... made known.
We have an new emperor like entity.
The 2nd of the trilogy can't end super happy.
New Luke will most certainly suffer setbacks... finally. LOL

Are we looking at a poisoned well now that has these paths set up to mirror ESB too?

I've noticed Disney doing damage control in the last few days, with articles about how "weird" [read: different] Ep VIII will be.

I'll believe it when I see it.

The Wook

Damage control? Because the movie has been so unsuccessful or something?

Well, because the word "derivative" or it's synonyms are used almost universally in all reviews.
People were so spoiler phobic they were protected from the nature of this one going in.
SO maybe yes they are concerned that maybe an ESB remake will not do as well.
I hope fans do not want an ESB reebooquel.

Let's go dig up some old threads from 3 years ago. Let's see how many people were saying, "Please, Disney! Don't make the new movie too much like ANH/ESB, whatever you do!"

This movie may not have been exactly what everyone individually asked for. But it's exactly what the public collectively asked for.

Well, some of us this approach did not work because it was too much like them, so much so you knew the whole story before it was finished.
That really isn't story telling is it? when you know how everything is going to turn out?
I want to be told new stories in a galaxy far far away. That's ok right? So i'm looking into the future what is coming next and have concerns.

I heard they are making E.T. Part two "Nocturnal Fears".
The plot has Elliot all grown up, and he has a daughter and a son with his wife. However, Elliot is going through a divorce with his wife and she is left to raise her child on her own while Elliot is now off to Mexico with his new girlfriend.... "He hates Mexico" ;)
Sensing Elliot's children are going through rough times, ET has chosen to return to Earth and visit the children. Mayhem ensues, the Government finds out and capture ET, where ET appears to die again.... And then makes a miraculous escape on a space ship... But not like the last ship that picked him up, this one is like 10 times in size.

I can't wait to see this film, as a huge ET fan. It sounds so refreshing and should be exciting and new and exactly what I have been waiting to see for 30 years now!

Unfair comparison.

ET did not get a new movie 15 years ago that was very different from the original & very disappointing.
And the same thing did not happen to ET again a few years after that.
And it did not happen for a third time after that.

I agree that TFA wasn't perfect. Far from it.

I just get annoyed when I feel like a movie isn't being given a fair chance. This movie could never have pleased everyone, and IMO erring too close to the old trilogy is about the most forgivable mistake it could have possibly made.

Han Solo looking at the projection of the starkiller compared to the death star: "So, it's bigger!". Funniest line of the movie in my opinion and it pretty much sums up what I thought of the movie in general.

I was thrilled that JJ Abrams was going to be the director, but I came out of the movie with a feeling that it had too much shakey cam, went all to fast without a breath, had a weak villain, and was a fanboy (JJ) rehash of old Star Wars. It seemed it was made with too much reverence to ANH and what came before without having the courage to try something new. What was missing from the ANH rehash was the slower moments and better lighting. It seemed everything in TFA moved at breakneck speed, and it didn't help tell the story since so much was a blur. And so much of it was in darkness. You couldn't make out what was going on sometimes.

The design of almost everything stunk too. I did like the speeder design though. That seemed to fit in this universe and seemed fresh. I've got the art of TFA book and don't see much time was spent drawing and designing, like McQuarrie or Johnston. Just a lot of mood paintings. Where's the design work? It seemed it was mostly illustrators instead of industrial designers as McQuarrie, Johnston and guys in the model shop were on the original movie. That stuff I really miss.

To be fair, that was one comment by Kasdan about the script Rian Johnson has written, not a Disney press releases.

These movies are more events than anything clever or with dramatic purpose. Avengers, Avatar, SW...are all drivel, story wise, but they are fun.

SW Ep7 is lazy story telling at it's best...a complete lazy rip off of ANH, but I enjoyed it. ANH is a classic because it was first.

I've seen TFA twice and I'll go see it again because it's a fun cheesy ride......I think GL even intended ANH to be cheesy, like a saturday morning crappy TV show from the early 70's

Let's sit in a dark room bored , and let all of our feelings out on a forum just to share hate to one another about a movie ....Really ??? Is this our generation now, ranting and raving about a movie on the Internet . Come on focus on topics you do like instead of spreading negativity across the forum !!!! Spread positivity rather than negativity !!!! Write up stuff on something you love or care about, because that is what this forum is made for !!!!! Sheesh
