Am I REALLY the only one disappointed with TFA?

Understanding, 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' by Dr. J. Evans Pritchard, Ph.D.

To fully understand The Force Awakens, we must first be fluent with its meaning, themes and cinematography, then ask two questions: 1) How artfully has the objective of the movie been rendered and 2) How important is that objective? Question 1 rates the movie's perfection; question 2 rates its importance. And once these questions have been answered, determining The Force Awakens' greatness becomes a relatively simple matter.

If the movie's score for perfection is plotted on the horizontal of a graph and its importance is plotted on the vertical, then calculating the total area of the movie yields the measure of its greatness.

Return of the Jedi might score high on the vertical but only average on the horizontal. Star Wars: A New Hope, on the other hand, would score high both horizontally and vertically, yielding a massive total area, thereby revealing the movie to be truly great. As you proceed to consider The Force Awakens, practice this rating method. As your ability to evaluate movies in this matter grows, so will your enjoyment and understanding of movies...
This sounds like a bunch of "film school" b.s. to me. I either like a movie, or I don't; I don't need graphs, pie charts, and a fracking PowerPoint presentation to make that determination.

That's not a response to the "complaining" at all. That's an immature diatribe from someone that missed the point of the original article, didn't bother to read the follow-up, and basically soiled his diaper in an effort to go viral.

There was no point to the original article to get, as most of the "40" plot holes the author described either didn't exist or were explained clearly in the film itself. No diaper soiling at all but thanks for setting me straight!

I'll disagree. There are plenty of plotholes (or whatever you might call them) in the film - as explained in the article and its follow-up. I loved the movie, it was fun and fantastic ride; but, just because I liked it a lot doesn't mean I'm blind to some of odder things going on it - whether it's a plothole, coincidences, inaccuracies or the liberties taken with it (especially with the use of the Force).

If you read the "rebuttal" to which you posted a link to - you can easily see that guy needs a diaper changed. His tirade was laughable and lack of maturity shined through.

If "plot holes" as such bother one so much, then one should probably avoid Star Wars and Star Trek movies. Diapers or no diapers.

Obviously, it bothered someone so much that they felt a need to write a whiney, name-calling diatribe about someone who had listed them in that the same author stated he loved and wrote another post giving 10 Reasons Why TFA was the best SW movie. Just because we like something, doesn't mean we can't ask questions, observe and point errors.

As stated in the follow-up to 40 Reasons - (20 More Plot Holes...): A lot of people reading "40 Unforgivable Plot Holes" wondered how one could love a film and also see its glaring deficiencies. And yet, to compare apples and oranges, just as being willing to see how America could improve is a prerequisite for living here intelligently, loving a movie means seeing it for what it is and it isn't. And when the movie at issue is set to be the most successful movie in the history of cinema, some good old-fashioned reflection is in order. Reflection is even more urgent when we have high-brow publications like The New Yorker writing of Abrams' poorly plotted film, "It's so adroitly wrought that lovers of the original may not even notice the skill."

As far as the diapers? I agree. Too bad the guy with the rebuttal needs his changed!

I agree and I also disagree that HP is news. It's more "news". None of those things listed were any of the problems I had with the movie. That stuff was just outright nitpicking. I also thought that Finn saying he was just a janitor was a joke. If not, then JJ is an idiot to think that they would waste Stormtroopers on sanitation. Finn thought it would be bad to tell them he was a Stormtrooper, even though the Rebellion was made up of a lot of deserters. As for Snoke being a giant, when I saw the movie I just kept thinking "Please be a hologram..." :lol That would have been too stupid, but it was obvious in the movie that it was as a hologram!

Considering the size of the Snoke hologram, I give it 50/50 odds that when we finally see him in person he'll be shorter than Yoda. :D

No, I was only funning with the name [emoji6] believe me, I am the last person to have a go at someone on grammar. I have a hard enough time on a regular keyboard. Get me on a phone or tablet and its a wonder i can type my nmae. [emoji106]

lol, happens to me all the time too ; )

Not only that ... but he will appear from behind a curtain on the side of that set ... handling the controls :wacko

The Force Awakens is leaving theaters, as it only comes in 3rd this weekend.

I was gonna post this update in the other thread, because the loudest voices over there insisted on having just one thread--but in truth, they don't want any negative talk about the film there whatsoever.

Bad word-of-mouth has already doomed TFA's chance at toppling Avatar, and now it's dooming TFA's chance to even catch Titanic. Proof that you can't just stick the words "Star Wars" on a turd and hope to repeat the success of the original masterpiece.

The Wook

I don't think being the third biggest movie of all time (as of this posting) is going to come off as a disappointment to anyone. Do we even know what kind of money it's making off the merchandise? Not even Avatar could get good merch.
