It does now say that there is no reserve. Before, it said one would be revealed if it existed.

Just reread the auction listing - it states:

This hero Type-2 Phaser was built for close up camera shots

Are they saying it was USED for close up camera shots? Or is the language here ambiguous...? And what does this mean?

This is one of only two hero Type-2 Phasers known to exist.

Heritage added this to the auction, clearly they don't appreciate the lack of bidding.

In addition, this hero Type-2 Phaser Pistol has been endorsed by respected Star Trek Original Series prop website HeroComm.com
’endorsed‘ is a odd phrase to use in an auction. sounds like a back door escape In case it goes sideways later on.

Endorsed by HeroComm.com after threatening them with legal action...I don't consider an endorsement given under duress to be especially valuable.

An endorsement, with no public report or explanation, is worthless and sets a bad precedent. Accepting it on faith in the experts, lacking substantive proof or in house examination, just may bite them in the ass.

And, then what will their endorsement be worth to their reputation?

This is not going away. Someday, someone, somewhere is going to get in the same room with this piece and might just find the irrefutable evidence of it one way or another. From what I have seen here, there are enough hard facts and images to prevent me from agreeing with the description. The truth is out there...

The fact Heritage seems to be frustrated by the questioning and doubting and yet they still aren't willing or able to produce any actual details to back up the seller's claim leaves me with the impression there are no facts or details that can back up any of the claims.

I don't think they fully understood just how much scrutiny and skepticism a newly-discovered hero phaser would go through.

To that point, I will say that I have no problem with Heritage offering the piece. We see this in the art world, where a controversial painting comes to market, and a group of experts, or panel, have deemed it by the artist, while another group says it can only be attributed to or is only by 'the studio of', meaning a student.

I think the rub here, is rather than be an impartial referee, HA has made definitive statements and conclusions about origin and use that they have not corroborated. In the painting world, the experts reports are provided and signed. There is no doubt what the differences are and what reasoning is behind each claim. To them, each bidder can study and decide for themselves what, or if, the case, one way or another, was made. Here we lack that totally. They have, in a world where we are all color blind, told us the prop is 'blue' - when no one can see it.

This auction phaser does closely resemble the the one I saw in a model

As a hardcore Spidey fan, I wish I’d thought of this one, because it’s perfect.

Also, I miss the real Spider-Man. And STAR TREK, and STAR WARS, and…

That is another factor in this mess: As the Franchise Apocalypse continues, with beloved properties being run into the ground, hardcore fans aging out, and nerd culture as we’ve known it beginning to fade into the mists of history, it’s more important than ever to fight on the side of truth and justice. History must not be rewritten by ideologues and con artists.

Been following this thread with interest, have been a fan of Star Trek TOS and its props since the show first aired so long ago. I have also regarded HeroComm.com as a factual reference site so find myself very disappointed in their lack of credibility on this Phaser's authenticity.
