Re: Alien Enviromental Suit Progress pics.

One of them (the one looking at camera in the lower pic) is definitely Phil Rae. I remember him saying that he was one of the only adults small enough to put on the child suit.

Do you have anymore info on that?

Thanks

Richie

Yes Richie, skiffy is right... I was in contact with Phil Rae last year for a couple of weeks and he told me the story about these pics : He and another guy were small enough to wear the kids suits, so they performed 2 of the Nostromo crew in a scene where they were supposed to walk away from the ship (the landed Nostromo model was in the background).
This scene was finaly deleted but I think you can see a fragment of it in one of the ALIEN LEGACY DVD documentaries IIRC.

BTW, I'm pretty sure the 3 astronauts that wait for the opening of the airlock door in the scene where they leave the Nostromo aren't Skerrit, Hurt and Cartwright !

Hmmm . I went thru the Eagle Transporter forum and read the thread by Phil..very interesting!! I hope to see if he might have more input on the costumes.

Fred. Thats a revelation for me!! More info if you have it!! Ive seen many stills that show the actors faces in this sequence sitting but now that you mention it I dont recall ever seeing their faces as they depart the Nostromo!!!

Any screen grabs from the DVD of the deleted scenes??

Here are 2 pics... Definitely convinced, Richie ?
:)

The more I think about it, the more it makes sense... Since those scenes involved crew members in EVA suits, they just needed the leads for close-up, the rest was maybe filmed by the second unit with ALIEN crew members wearing the spacesuits in order to keep Skerritt, Cartwright and Hurt busy at work with Sir Ridley on other far more important scenes...

This is one of the coolest threads I've ever seen on the board. I love the work you guys are doing on the suit, and am fascinated by the historical information and reference shots that members are contributing.

I think even Fred might be impressed! :love

Additionally, My lovely wife Danita is working on suits. She plans of dying the quilted parts this weekend and start the assembly of the first Kane suit. I will post some pictures soon.

Re: Alien Enviromental Suit Progress pics.

Thanks for the update, Steve.

I took safe delivery of Helmet #2 a short time ago. Unfortunately, I have been too busy to take photos and post them... but I will!

In the meantime, I can only repeat what others have said: this is not just a prop or costume replica, it's a work of art. My jaw drops every time I look at it.

What a fantastic accomplishment by Steve and Richie (with great assists from Karl and Fred). Bravo, you guys!

Very cool to hear that Mrs. Stephen210 is working on the soft parts! I'm very much looking forward to the rest of my Nostromo ES suit... a Holy Grail of mine for 30 years! :love :thumbsup I never thought this particular dream would come true. Thank you all again for making this happen! :love

So bare with me.

Dude, I have the utmost, utmost respect for your skills... but I'm not quite ready to strip down yet. :p I'm holding out for the rest of the suit! :lol

Re: Alien Enviromental Suit Progress pics.

Ok. I have almost completed the first pack, Its going together pretty well and the first ones always the hardest!!

I have 2-3 details that Ive yet to add, still waiting for the laser cutting, and a couple side details that I actually have to make yet.

I will also have to add a full back , electronics, toggle switches and strapping.

I dont have any diffinitive pics that show the strapping system BUT I think I finally had an epyphany this morning and I beleive I figured out how it works.

I couldnt wait to get the details added and the paint/patina so I could see how close to the originals it looks.

Well heres the pics:
