Alien Anthology Blu-ray features list

UPDATE!

Has the original documentary about the making of ALIEN3 been edited at the last minute again?

According to reports made by Bill Hunt in his review of the original documentary, he stated: "More than thirty minutes of material that was produced for this documentary was cut at the last minute. You might be wondering what difference thirty minutes could make in a three hour documentary. A big difference."

In his July 15th post, Bill also stated: "Not only is Wreckage and Rage: Making Alien³ the uncut and restored version of the documentary - originally titled Wreckage and Rape - that was edited for the Alien Quadrilogy DVD release, an additional 30 minutes of ALL NEW material has been added to this documentary as well.

Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but Bill states that we are getting the uncut and restored version of the documentary, but an ADDITIONAL 30 minutes of ALL NEW material "as well", meaning after the fact. This sounds like the documentary should have almost an hours worth of material. However, the person who posted the screen shots on the transfers also posted the documentary segments and their corresponding running time for all the bonus features and the different between this documentary and the old one is....

+21:15 minutes.

Hmm. 21 minutes?

Even Charles de Lauzirika stated that "time heals all wounds" in regards to his original cut of the documentary, but he also added in more footage into the documentary just incase the studio needed material to be cut out. In the end, nothing was requested to be cut, not even the extra footage used for backup. So what's happening? Are these numbers correct and Fox has once again tampered with the documentary again, or are we not seeing the full picture?

More at 11!

UPDATE!

My sources tell me that the report over at blu-ray.com's forums was indeed an error and that the documentary is still going to be released uncut with the missing 30 minutes plus the extra footage mentioned.

I just read an older article at The Digital Bits on Alien and checked out the Alien 3 wiki. The movie was probably doomed from the start...

It's like some mad studio exec suddenly realized that he could control every aspect of the production and make changes on the whim. Willie was dead on in his comments that the first two films really had the directors and writers involved, where as alien3 was a studio run game above and below. I cannot wait to see the new David Fincher footage in the restored documentary.

UPDATE!

Enhancement Pod information!

01:19:43:00 (ALIEN - ENHANCEMENT PODS) (PLAY ALL)
00:58:31:00 (ALIENS - ENHANCEMENT PODS) (PLAY ALL)
01:14:03:00 (ALIEN 3 - ENHANCEMENT PODS) (PLAY ALL)
01:15:17:00 (ALIEN RESURRECTION - ENHANCEMENT PODS) (PLAY ALL)

:eek

Now, along with the documentaries, these enhancement pods are where all the new material is going. You play them along with the documentaries. So take the time line data and add that to the running length of the documentaries, and you've got +250 minutes of new behind the scenes material!

:love :love :love

UPDATE!

Now this is interesting. It looks like there's some evidence of heavy color correcting in ALIEN. Take a look at this snap shot of the alien chestburder.

Now note the blood in the circled areas.

This is what the final result will look like.

You see? Those particular botches of blood got really darker while other areas don't change that much. Makes me wonder what other areas in the film have similar changes like this.

There will be some more tweaks from what I've heard-

One of them will make the film (ALIEN) more... PG rated.

Here's the only screencap I could find.

See? They've made the chestburster a little less frightening, giving it a happy face! Almost puppy dog like! :thumbsdown

Every kid will want a chestburster toy now. :rolleyes

You're reachin', man.

I'm not complaining or trying to make an issue out of this. I'm just pointing out the areas where there's some pretty noticeable work that's been done to the transfer outside of making it look clean and more detailed.

I really do like the work that's been done. The blood looks a lot more photorealistic with it's darker tone and more consistent tone.

Which thankfully the only reference from the Alien series was just one line that had nothing to do or say about the xenomorphs. /phew

I'm anxious to listen to the commentary track and hear more on why Robert Rodriguez wanted to get this movie made.

Just for kicks and a shameless attempt to keep this thread fresh, I'm going to start a little trivia game in vein of the original Alien Resurrection website (Anyone remember that one?!). Since I've been very harsh on you ALIEN3 lovers out there, I'll start you off with one from that film.

Q. Besides being a prison, what was the primary purpose for the foundry facilities on Fury 161?

Hint: It's not just refining mineral ore

Casting lead radiation shielding for spacecraft? I think I read that somewhere...

I thought I saw a Xenomorph skull in there somewhere. What's with the DVD details though? There's practically no special features and no mention of a 2-disc DVD.

Here you go. This will essentially be both the BluRay and the 2-Disc set.
