Alien Anthology Blu-ray features list

UPDATE!

comingsoon.net has posted an interview with James Cameron about his upcoming Avatar Special Edition. At approximately 5:41 in the video's timeline, Cameron is asked if he had any involvement with the new Alien Anthology set and he had this to say.

- Personally did complete remaster of Aliens Special Edition.
- Used same colourist as on Avatar.
- Looks spectacular. Completely de-noised and de-grained it, up-rezed it, colour-corrected it, end-to-end every frame.
- Looks amazing, better than it did originally in theatres. Looks sharper, clearer and more beautiful than it's ever looked.

So, what do you think? Does this news of de-noising and de-graining the film leave a bad taste in film enthusiasts mouths, or does Cameron know what he's doing and will deliver one stellar looking transfer to Aliens when it comes out, grain or no grain? For a man who has a huge eye for detail, and our sources who say the film is looking spectacular, I think we're perfectly safe that this Transfer will look fabulous.

Special thanks to Daz_85!

I'm going to cautiously trust his taste, in that he didn't degrain it so much as to render it artificial-looking. Some grain is nice to have. But yes, the film was more grainy than it needed to be, so I'm hopeful.

Because of this, I was able to score the Quadrillogy new for like 20 bucks...I've really been enjoying all the extras, but the big revelation to me is the Alien 3 SE. Wow, that's a much better movie.

So...you all enjoy your fancy-pants BluRay players, I'll be living like the king of 2004! :lol

No way. I lived like a king in 2004 because I bought the book on the making of this set and I saw the Director's Cut of ALIEN in the theaters when it was rereleased.

It's a pity that you're stuck with this set because Alien3 is getting a HUGE makeover on the Anthology set. The original actors were brought in to do some ADR work for their characters in the Special Edition, and the making of documentary is not only being released in it's original intended form (The one on your set is heavily cut), but with additional footage that was originally meant to be cut out should the studios request any edits. They didn't, so we'll be getting more than what we were originally supposed to get. Charles said that time heals all wounds, this one went the extra mile and rewarded us for the wait.

VICTORY!

Also, we're going to see Burke cocooned. You're not. :angel

Oh, I'll buy the Blu-Ray set, but I'll buy it in like 2014. That's how I roll. I figure everyone can live like a millionaire if they're just willing to wait a few years! :lol

(Yes, I AM jealous, but I'm also enjoying finally seeing the Quadrillogy features)

UPDATE!

Lieutenant Gorman's reaction shot to the new ALIENS Transfer.

I think we can all sit back, relax and take comfort in the knowledge that Gorman and everyone else won't look like mobile waxy statues.

Dayummm! I'm so looking forward to this set! Thanks for the constant updates!

Is it wrong of me that I plan to put Aliens straight into the player as soon as I get it?

If you wanna see the difference between Blu-ray and DVD:

Mother of mercy. This really looks like they went back to the masters and did a more proper job with the details. Some of the images when compared in a flip like fashion shows that the DVD has some evidence of the image being stretched. It looks way more natural in the BluRay.

And the color. Mother of god, the color. Just compare the shots of Ripley waving her arms trying to distract the Queen away from Newt. It's like the original image had a pinkish gel in front of the projector, and now it's gone!

This is what all those advertisements mean when they say "Experience it in a way you never have before" without doing any sort of visual effects additions or scene tinkering.

Oh man, that's basically exactly what I was saying in my head when I saw those comparison shots. :love:love:love

Holy freakin' heck. That is breathtaking. I cannot wait for these. :thumbsup

On a side note, did anyone else notice the metal armature inside the queen's neck in the fourth set down! Never saw that before.

I think we're going to notice some things that we never noticed before. That's the nature of the business!

There are rumblings that Fox put all the money into the new transfers of ALIEN and ALIENS and cheaped out on ALIEN3 and A:R, reusing the HDTV masters instead of re-mastering the later films the way they did with the first two.

Oh well, at least the great ones will look it.

It should be noted that they are more recent films and I doubt that Charles and his team would settle for a pre-existing 1080p master for their BluRay set. Don't forget, these will be the Special Editions of the film which were not broadcasted on HDTV, so they most likely went with the masters for that, they just didn't do a remastering work frame-by-frame.
