AAV Drop Ship

Wow!!! I must admit to being late to the party but this thread has been incredible. I’m at awe to the master craftsmanship displayed in every new post and eagerly await more. I’ve also enjoyed the tangents and the ups and downs of your life that you’ve shared with us along the way, it’s been an incredible journey. I’m very sorry for your losses and I am very glad for your successes and your wife no longer suffering depression.
Thank you very much for sharing your artistry with us all.
It has been an absolute pleasure for me in a time where there has been so much unrest with COVID-19 and other happenings in the USA. It’s been a very welcome distraction. I’m an Australian living in the USA, I’m a long way from home.

I’ve been suffering insomnia lately so I may have read all 38 pages of this thread overnight while my wife slept peacefully beside me. I’m definitely going to have to find and read some of your previous threads. Any suggestions?

I wish you and your family continued health and prosperity.
Kind regards
-Greg

Awesome update & Bento box !! :p
Thank you for sharing, Katsu-san! Keep it up!

Thanks, George-san. Thank you for your kind PM, too. It helps me a lot!

Both the model and the box look great.

Thank you, Tom-san!

Beautiful! That thing looks like it can actually fly!

Thanks korben44-san!

Thank you very much for stopping by, Greg-san. And thank you for taking your time to watch this thread. I hope you like it.
And thank for the kind words for my family. I have been touched.

Usually, my model build takes a year or two. So many good things and bad things have happened during the build. Not only the progress of my model I also love to share those happenings with many of my good friends here. They are always encourage me and I am really grateful those moments.
Greg-san, are you suffering insomnia? It's too bad but it proofs you are young. I envy. The old man like me can't resist to go to bed too early and sleep like in coma. Instead, I wake up so early every morning. Me too used to suffered insomnia a few decades ago. Don't worry, it won't kill you.

Go though every thread Katsu-san started. Every last one. You'll be rewarded.

Tom-san, I've just listed up my previous build below. Less than 10 models in almost 13 years.

Greg-san, Please be my guest. I am really happy if you enjoyed it. Oh, some of them will help you sleep well.;)

Most of old thread were using Photo Bucket cloud. Sorry about the logo covering on the pics.

This is my first Kit bashing model for ten years ago

This is also built by kit bashing gunship

This is full scratch model of Planet Explorer Vehicle.

This is also a full scratch star ship model

This is a wall decoration project of my house.

This is the first model I built with a aluminum sheet.

This is the plant pedestal in a living room.

This is the figure of character from PC game Fallout 4.

This is also the figure of Groot of Guardians of Galaxy.

I've made a paper model of AAV today to see how it looks.

I think it should be bit more larger.

Thank for looking.

Thank you for sharing, Katsu Sensei ! :notworthy:
SithSithSith I wish you a speedy recovery from your insomnia and good night sleep from now on.At least you have a wife to sleep next to;)

Looking good Katsu-san. I agree, your AAV needs to be longer. I'm pretty sure you already know that it should be sized to fit the figures you have in the cockpit of the Drop ship. Your idea looks promising. The repairs to the drop ship look great. (y)(y)(y)

You were not Kidding! I spent the last day and night reading all of Katsu-san’s threads from start to finish and I am blown away.

Katsu-san thank you very much for sharing your work. I must admit in terms of model building/fabricating I am a complete amateur, I’m pretty handy with tools and mildly artistic but no where near on the level of your work. Having said that I am inspired to attempt my own project. I’m a huge Star Wars fan and I’m planning on building my own custom lightsaber from the inside out, with a crystal chamber, sound and lighting. Basically, Designing and building a believable interior chassis and then making the exterior to fit. it’s a daunting task. I’m still in the planning/designing stage but one day soon I will start.

Thank you so much, Stevie-san! Yes, it is. I want it a good size for pack 10-12 soldiers inside. It may need a bit more height and length.

I love the design, but I think you are right, a bit larger would better fit the size of the figures

Thank you so much, Analyzer-san. I'm glad you took a close look at it.

Oh, you are preparing for your new project. It is good news for everyone here. My little knowledge about the model building is all open for everyone. Please ask freely if you have anything. And many good modelers here on this site will help you for sure. I hope you enjoy sharing the model building here.

I can't wait to see your first post!

No pic of bento today. I've just packed the leftover of Tempura we had last night.
I didn't forget to put the label on it as 'Memory of the last night '.... :p

Katsu-san:

I don' t know if they're popular in Japan, but there was/is a good series of books by an author named David Drake about a futuristic mercenary group called "Hammer's Slammers." Their main weapon is a heavy hovertank, but they also have smaller hovercraft called "combat cars" that look like this:

The above design might not work as it is for your AAV, but scale-wise, it doesn't look too far from your paper model.

Ohh, that is cool. No, the show is not known in Japan right now but it looks so cool.
I thought I build an 8 wheeler combat vehicle or one that with tracks. But yes, there should be a hovercraft is the one good option.
When I was 14 years old, I made a 2 feet wooden model that could levitate with a reciprocating engine for a small model airplane. I remember that the engine was made in the USA. I thought it was Wenmac 049 Mk2?? That engine was originally mounted on the model airplane 'King Cobra'. That was the incentive giveaway my father was given by his company in the mid-1960s. That was not a radio-controlled but with a control line. I remember the day my father brought the big box of it for me with a big smile. Oh, I remember that day, now.....
Tom-sam, That was just 50 years ago. I found the pic of that plane on the net. Here it is. Oh, yes,... this is it.

I am drawing some sketches for those vehicles now but thanks to you, there's one another option would be added.
I am gonna built all kinds of the AAV I imagined but maybe it will be ended up only in my head. I will try to draw many ideas as much as I can for now.
Thank you so much, Tom-san, my friend!

It keeps getting better and better, Katsu-san! And now I see the paper model of the tracked vehicle, I know the universe this would fit into- Thunderbirds!

You know, speaking of Thunderbirds, you could always have a hovercraft, AND a tank, AND a submarine, all interchangeable, like TB2's pods...

:)

Isn’t your planet explorer an example of AAV?;)
Though I imagine you’d have to upscale the drop ship model a touch to make it relative size:D:lol:

Nice looking plane!

And I know that your AAV will be fantastic, whether wheeled, tracked, or anything else.

Thank you. Tom-san!

I second this ^ thanks for the photos and the childhood story, Katsu-san

Thank you, George-san. I suddenly remember those of my childhood things.

Ahh, again! Yes, dad! 'Thunderbirds are Go'. That series of super marionation of Gerry and Silvia Anderson's TV show had made me like this.

Ahh, I have been afraid of someone would say that!
Here I got another new bad boy in the neighborhood. Is this something I should say, ’Birds of a feather flock together’? right?
Thank you so much, SithSithSith! ( What kind of a handle name is this anyway? )o_O

Today I'm servicing and repairing my power tool.

And watch these movie 'Gamera!'
Please check out this. Although these trilogies of Gamera had been made in '90, the director rarely used CGI but the miniature effect.

I love miniature effects!

Thanks

Katsu

My handle is a play on words, In Star Wars the Sith are the evil bad guys and the number of the beast (The devil) is 666 so... SithSithSith. I’m one of those people that always find the bad guys more interesting, like the Deceptacons were arguably better than the Autobots and so on...

my avatar/profile picture is the logo of Sith Eternal, a dark side cult from the latest Star Wars movie.

I didn’t mean to offend about the planet explorer, I am looking forward to what you come up with for your AAV, I’m sure it will be great like always :)

I also enjoy watching Handtool Rescue, the guy who records those is hilarious and as it happens Gamera is my favorite kaiju.

SithSithSith Actually it's exactly like Ian McKellen/Gandalf said in Lord of the Rings:"There's only one Lord of the Rings, and he does not share power...".Always remember this in life.

Instead, consider the quote from Christopher Plummer/Simon Wyler in The Lake House:"A truly great structure, one that is meant to stand the tests of time never disregards its environment. A serious architect takes that into account. He knows that if he wants presence, he must consult with nature. He must be captivated by the Light.Always the Light. Always".

For your con-sith-eration;)

There are more things in heaven and earth, George,
Than are dreamt of in your philosophy. ;)

Oh, I got it. - 666 - It's cool. Also, I understand why you love villains. They are always impressive and have a strong policy. ;)
Haha. Don't mind about my planet explorer. My other friend bad boys always urge me to do things like that. Somehow, that is good to me always.
I'm glad you like that guy's videos. It's so quiet but very interesting. I thought it might help you have a good sleep as I do.

Those movie effects were pretty cool!

Happy Father's Day (not sure if you guys celebrate that over there?)

Thank you Analyzer-san.
Celebrate Father's day?

Daughter #1 : Wow, today is a father's day!
Me : Yup.
Daughter #1 : And what is your gift for me?
Me : Ah... what?

Finally, she and my wife cooked dinner for me.:rolleyes:
