A Obi ANH saber build

i need some advice from the experienced ones.
i bought some obi anh saber parts and still need some too.
the saber doesnt need to be super acurate just needs to look good like an AFBB.
here are the parts i have and the origin i think they are.

the grenade is romans the windvane is in the brakefluid to remove paint.
the handwheel is romans too.
the emitter i have no clue.
the ribbed booster is russrep.
the spacer is russrep too.

the emitter and grenade have some minor dings and scrathes to them and the grenade needs the paint removed.
would it be wiser to trade them or sell the to get better parts for an AFBB???
could there be intrest in it for trade?
or can i refurbish them?

thanks for the obi noob help ;)

The parts you have are certainly nice enough for an AFBB. The russrep runs for this saber have been the most accurate to date, and you can't get better machined parts IMO. I'd say Roman's parts run a very close second only to russrep... and it looks like you have recent versions of his parts which means more accuracy to their original counterparts.

You'll have to decide what this saber looks like in your minds eye as new... the original prop was NOT pretty, but was pretty beat. Not ot mention you'll have to decide if you want the prequel represntation to influence your work. Afterall, it does represent this saber in like new condition.

My favorite part about this saber is the amalgam of random parts. I always thought it would be neat to see this saber pay tribute to its components/metal finishes rather than the color scheme seen on screen. If you do some searching you'll see the derwent interconnect was made from a nickel/steel alloy and appears as a nearly matte steel color. The booster was originally a balck oxide finish; chromed plastic handwheel; and a brushed nickel/chrome finish on the clamp.

Make no mistake, you are on your way to a great saber... with well made accurate parts. Just be sure to post some pics for us as it goes together.

A nice set of parts you have there. I would be happy with them.

You may have to construct something for attaching the emitter to the Roman's grenade. A few builders here used rubber washers tightened between nuts at the end of the threaded rod. There should be a few old threads about it.

I suggest that you ask Rebelscum for a replica bubble strip to put in the clamp ... unless you have a real bubble strip lying around. ;)

Your emitter is a Russrep, the spacer is NOT.

thanks incredipaul, darth lars and dann for the kind words.

i bought these parts along with an icons obi saber and got a very nice price for them.
im varry happy with the parts just need to figure out where to go from here.
got some nice tips from you guys and i will make this thread the wip.
funds are tight so it may take a while to complete.

can anyone of you guys tell me if the process "balck oxide finish" can be made at home or do i need to let it be done.
im thinking of getting the emitter when its complete, clamp and transistors chromed for an AFBB look.
want to get this saber similar to the MR AFBB as possible without disregarding the natural materials look and feel.

will check the windvane now that's its been in the brakefluid for about a day to see where im at.

thanks again to help me on this saber quest;)

There is "Gun blue" (many brands) for steel and "Aluminum Black" (Birchwood Casey) for aluminium. Both are found in gun stores. Some brands of "Gun Blue" oxidize to a very blue hue, and some look almost like true black.
But oxidizing metal using such fluids is almost an art.. If you are not very careful then you will get a spotty result. I think they are more useful for weathering, where you want a spotty result.

ok thanks for the info;)

i have thought about painting them,i go to an autobody school so i can get my parts done in a professional way.
the grenade needs sandblasting too i think.
been on the windvane sinds my last post and that comming good, just the propeller like part is hard to get between the blades, need to figure something out.

well here's an update on my slow going build and refurb.
this saber will represent the refurbed battle of the heroes saber in rots.
being refurbed by obi in his solitude.

after some hours cleaing,sanding,polishing,painting,.... i have come to this.

let me know what you guys think!
really having a blast with this.

I love this saber soooo much. Great to be able to watch sumbody scrounge up the pieces and assemble this into something everybody recognizes. :thumbsup

Ah this make's me want to dig out the two sets of Russ's parts I've got in hibernation waiting for his run of Pommel's. It's been quite some time!
Might have to drool over them when I get home from work.

well you can always start on them now untill you have the pommels for them to complete.
time saved im my opinion;)

i still need to get some parts too but it will take a while... little short on $$$$....
