2023 SECRET SANTA THREAD - Registration NOW CLOSED!

I have mine done, but I think I'm going to switch gears (and fandoms) now that Viacom has told me I can no longer sell a particular item or their lawyers will atomize me (I'm paraphrasing).
So while it might bend the $20 rule a bit, I think ******** will like it. And now that big V has slapped me, it's not going to anyone else, so...

Edit: It's on its way!

Its just so ridiculous that big business think that we the little guys and gals will damage their profits in any way. If anything we bring More fans to their fandom.

Get over yourselves.....

I'm sure whomever your recipient is will be uber elated with their SS gift tankgrrl

LOL! This is my first year in SS, and I get to go first? :D

Sorry guys, I know it's not a competition, but y'all can go home now, I got the best gift, and I'm not letting anyone steal...oh, it's not a white elephant? Woo hoo!

So the funny thing is, tankgrrl your package arrived so early and it was from your shop, that I had no idea it was Secret Santa. I was like, "I don't remember ordering anything from these folks!" so I opened it right away. As soon as I got a peek at the note, I closed it right up and took it to the kitchen to show my wife and kids as I opened the rest of it.

And...what can I say, but WOW WOW WOW!

This is a Strange New Worlds tricorder, FDM printed and assembled with very nice graphics. It has 2 compartments that open up and are held in place with quality magnets, and a separate handheld scanner that lights up with 3 different blink patterns! It comes with a nice thick leather strap as well.

Now, I have multiple 3D printers running frequently, but I have NEVER seen FDM (filament) printing this fine. I do not filament-print prop replicas unless I'm prepared for a ton of sanding and filling, which is my least favorite part of all of Making. So believe me when I tell you that this is really top notch printing, and flawless to the naked eye as far as artifacts. I've never seen FDM printing where I needed a magnifying glass to see the layer lines. Amazing! Can't wait to add it to my shelf...I'm gonna have to make room in the Star Trek section! I really loved Strange New Worlds, so given this choice vs. a TOS tricorder, I would have opted for this one, no question. You nailed the selection.

Still blown away. Clearly you busted budget for this, so all I can say is that I'm honored beyond belief. And challenged to get my own SS gift right! And sorry to everyone who tankgrrl made jealous!

Here it is added to my bookshelf collection. It helped me consolidate a couple things so now this cube is Star Trek only!

Holy Moly.... Looking at the first gift of the year it looks like the Game has been Raised.... (looks around nervously) I hope my recipient is as happy with their gift.

Awesome piece.

Merry Christmas all.

That's amazing. Drooling over here!

YAY! Glad you like it, Bill! I'm happy it got to go to a good home. This is version 2 of my design. I did a trade with someone for some ST prints and then Viacom said 'no soup for you!' before I sold any. So you have one of two V2s in the wild (apart from my own).

And thanks for the kind words on the build. This was designed in Fusion 360 and then printed (at .12mm) on my Bambu X1C printers. As you can see, they're worth the money (and super fast), if anyone's looking. They've re-ignited my love of FDM printing; I only resin print now when I need even cleaner surfaces. I'm like you, and I suspect everyone, I hate sanding.

PS - The bottom of the scanner should be able to go further into its body. Just give it a 1/4 twist and it should slide in all the way. Another 1/4 twist to friction lock it. Can't wait to see it in your [lovely] display cases!

Ho ho ho!

Hoo-hoo, nice! A rarity, thanks!

This is the second time the Bambu X1C has popped up in my awareness in the last couple weeks. I'm going to have to seriously consider it. My Voxelab Aquila (gen 1) has really had a good run, and still makes useful things around the house. But that .12mm resolution is scary good. I can set mine to that rez too, but it just can't deliver it like the Bambu.

Yep, I totally figured that out, was just keeping it loose to turn it on and off for pictures. ;) Will update my above post with a pic in the display case as soon as I rearrange a bunch!

Thanks again!
