This looks interesting, I couldn't stand the first one because of all of the shaky cam nonsense and the constant panning away from the monster until the end. I might just put this on my to watch list.
remember the big monster/alien was dropping babies in the first film. maybe those suckers are roaming the earth now and multiplying like rabbits? can't wait!
:thumbsup
So glad to know someone else that liked this flick as much as I did. This was really the only film that I followed/enjoyed the viral stuff for. That's why I wanted to share (not nitpick), that the things falling off were some kind of deep sea parasite.
For those not familiar, the viral stuff that gave the narrative as to what led up to the movie really expands the story, without being crucial to the movie's plot.
nice finding another fan as well! you know i saw cloverfield opening night, it was the first movie i have ever been to that when the movie ended the crowd boo'ed... i like movies like this, where your thrown right into a situation and you can't ask any questions, BAM! your here, monster running in the city and you have to get your girlfriend NOW!! change ask where the monster came from not enough time lol
little off topic, but they say in cloverfield at the end when they are in the ferris wheel the camera is showing the ocean, when the movie came out the online rumor was you could see the alien crash into the ocean at that scene. have you ever seen it? i have come to the conclusion it was a hoax
It's not a hoax, I have seen the ocean crash in multiple viewings of the movie. i thought it kind of tied the movie together.
"In the final scene where a few seconds of the original taped-over footage of Rob & Beth in the Coney Island Ferris Wheel is shown, the camera, looking out to sea, appears to inadvertently catch the dysfunctional satellite that plummeted to Earth and woke the monster sleeping in the sea for thousands of years."

No, it's there, but it wasn't an alien. It was a Tagruato satellite.
Tagruato was a Japanese company with ties to pretty much every black ops/conspiracy thing you could imagine. They also owned several legitimate enterprises, including the food company that made SLUSHO. this was the company that Robert was going to move to Japan to work for. Tagruato was trying to recover the satellite, which was rumored to be a covert spy satellite, when they woke up the monster. It followed the recovery vessels to an oil rig owned by the company, which was also a privately funded military operations base. The monster destroyed the rig & all but one tanker that was headed to NYC. It attacked & destroyed the tanker in NY harbor (you can see it destroyed or burning in the footage shot on the bridge), then attacked the city.
The viral sstuff also involved an environebtal terror group called TIDO wave, that were investigating & infiltrating Tagruato for crimes against humanity & the environment. One of their operatives was sending evidence against them back home in packages addressed to his girlfriend. She did several video blogs alluding to what he was up to. One of the packages contained a sample of a substance called 'deep sea nectar', which had been discovered years ago by the founder of the company, but was thought to be highly addictive. The idea being that this substance had some sort of transformative properties with living things, & may be what had caused the development of the monster. it's parents (it's alluded that it's only ababy, hence the blind rampaging, as it was hurt & scared), & the spider-like parasites that fell off. The kicker is, the nectar is a key ingredient in SLUSHO.
Anyways, the girlfriend eats some of it, makes a blog where she freaks out & talks about going to a party. The payoff is in the movie, where she is shown completely crashed out on the couch in the middle of Rob's party. She's the blonde the camera lingers on for a second.
I say this, because the people who were subscribed to some of the viral emails & stuff, have started getting new emails fromTagruato.
oh man that is some awesome information!! man I wish I knew about all this stuff back then!
so cool that they are getting emailed again! that's what I like so much about these films is you can play along in real life. just like the swamp soda pop, I think that's so cool that you can order it and it comes with puzzle pieces! little things like are important to me, hey I live a small life what can I say lol
it's great that it looks like we can play along again! I hope this thread is updated with all the Easter egg news!!
again thanks for taking the time and writing all that info, I appreciate it!

On one of the fake viral websites years ago it talked about a satellite crashing even before the movie came out.
Cloverfield easily had the best viral campaign Ive ever seen
yes! early this morning i watched the same video, very very cool, i looked for a long time when it came out on dvd but never saw anything until now. i feel little bit more complete, i always thought it was a internet hoax, but it is clearly shown in the video. well not clearly but you can see it! lol
thanks for sharing
I loved the first movie. I feel like this movie is really going to **** me off though. I already feel betrayed.
