1/72 Cloud City Diorama with PG Falcon and FM Slave 1

Actually I experimented with some ideas like this back in February. They were kind of difficult to print, owing to the resolution. And dependent on the quality of whatever you put over top. So I sort of put that idea on the back burner for a while.

The corridor was a particular pain. I could have released it, and said, "you'll have to figure out a good way to glue it in place yourself", but I wanted something that matched the geometry of the Bandai cockpit floor a bit better.

Actually, I planned on doing X-wing and TIE canopies and cockpits next. I went as far as making an X-wing one, but it turned out to be a real problem because the X-wing canopy struts are so thin. Makes it hard to make it actually 3D printable given Shapeways' current technology. I did some test prints but never finished it - the lower angle of the canopy frame is wrong here.

Then, because hardly anyone bought the snowspeeder canopies I dropped the idea. If nobody buys the thing then I never make back my expenses of doing all the test prints!

Oh, man. Now I've seen these, I want them bad! (And I bought your snow speeder canopy and interior...they're great!)

Thanks! I think I'm going to keep work on the PG Falcon parts for now. Maybe the Solo corridors if the CAD software bug gets fixed. But then I might revisit the X-wings...

And the B Wing landing gear (y) The ones you linked to look more like servicing jacks. Got my speeder cockpit the other day and it's great.

Anyhoo the forums been down for what seems like ages so Korben must have some tasty updates for us

Back to work on the PG Millennium Falcon... I ditched the kit parts for the nose cone and cockpit and will be using 308bits parts. The reasoning is simple... When I went to put in my own custom lighting for the cockpit, the two halves of the cockpit cone would not fit together well enough. And I was not happy with how the interior turned out with my first run. So here's the updated version.

More work on my cockpit... It's always fun working out how to light the interior... I think my solution will work well... Especially with having the corridor behind the cockpit..

Pretty neat. I am assuming you used inks for the colors so the stuff remained transparent while regular paint for the walls?

I used Mr. Finisher 1500 as a primer base coat... then oils to add the gray and finer details like silver and colored buttons. On the back side of the cockpit wall, I cut out a piece of clear plastic and used oils, thinned of course, to add color to all the different shaped holes. I'll add some ambient lighting to allow it to come through.

Here's a nice little comparison of the mandibles before and after...

The magic of weathering... The pic on the right shows the upper mandibles with no weathering. I did not add any more color other than using my oils and rub n buff. It's almost magical how transformative paint is... I love this process

Weathering looks perfect!

Thanks! I know this isn't 100% five footer accurate, but that's not what I'm going for with this build. So many wires and fiber, though...holy crap! good thing leds do not require much power...lol

The lower maintenance pits come in today so that will be tackled this week and hopefully, I'll have a finished Falcon by the weekend.
