1/6 1932 Ford Model A Roadster

Wow, that is very impressive. You have some very enviable skills. Looks great, I hope you get a good grade on the project.

Neil,

That is BEAUTIFUL... Good to hear that Keith the painter is still around.
You should get top marks for that work of art mate.

Cheers,

Chris

Thanks for the kind words guys. It's been a fun project to work on. I was determined to add a miniature vehicle to my portfolio as they (or the skills associated with their creation) still seem to crop up quite frequently over here. I wanted it to be different from the usual sports cars that are made.

If I was making this as a pure fx miniature I could get away with a less pristine finish as the model need only look the part in its shots and act according script (providing I could back up the model with storyboards or a script - a relevant reason for being). My brief was for a styling concept model for the likes of Boyd Coddington or Chip Foose, so I just needed to produce drawings to work from and concentrate more on the finish.

It's funny. Replicas are looked down upon by the lecturers. You can get away with making them - disguise them as promotional models/point of sale etc but you are encouraged to do something different. If you are going to recreate someone's work then develop their idea a little bit further and justify its existence (even if you are just pretending to). Its all jumping through hoops :confused

I will admit to coming into this course thinking I'm gonna make an R2, a Falcon, a 1:1 Alien, some cool guns, but it hasn't happened, except for the Falcon in my spare time :p

Good to hear from you Chris and thanks. Yep, Keith in still about...you should see the bikes he's been building and painting.

Hi guys,

Just got back from the pub. Absolutely knackered. It was the hand in day today for my Roadster Project and a bunch of us went out afterwards for a few in celebration.

Anyhow, here are the photos I took today of the model. I STILL haven't put the glass on the wing mirrors...betting the tutors don't spot it. I'll sort that after Spring Break :D

I'm off to bed. Cheers.

A gorgeous piece of work. :love

Thanks for sharing this with us along the way. Looking forward to your next endeavor. :thumbsup

Thanks for the kind words and encouragement guys. I'm glad you like how it turned out :)

So much for a relaxing break. I have spent this week running a 'make a spaceship from junk' project with 24x 8-15 year olds. Man, they can drain a man :lol A 5 hour day with them is like a 15 hour day in the studio..

In case you were wondering, here is a drawing of my '32 Roadster's profile compared to the standard 1932 Model A body, just so you can see how I changed its lines. This is why my model qualified as a concept and not a scaled replica.

Cheers.
