Wow, fantastic stuff!!! I'd be interested in a kit as well if I'm not too late. I just came across this thread, can't wait to watch the build up. Well done!

I was able to get the nose cone of the refit molded and cast. Here are the pisctures. I have to say the master for this kit is very nice and detailed. I cannot wait to see this thing put together and lit up.

Scott has been keeping this thread alive with his updates, while I work day and night getting this ship done and ready for market. As you can see, most of the detail parts and some of the main parts have been molded and cast. There has been a great deal more work done on this, but I'm holding back so that the next update from me will be worth checking out.

Below is just some of the progression over the last couple of weeks. The last parts I wanted to work on was the upper and lower primary hull sections, simply because they were the most fractured from shipping, the largest parts of the ship and they had some of the finest detail. Once I get the last three parts of this ready for molding, the repair, correction and finalization of this ship is over and the rest is just molding, casting and finishing the final details. It's been a long strange trip, but soon it will be in the bag. The next updates I show will be light tests and build-up photos. Virtually every part of this ship had to be repaired, reconstructed, or modified.
I've finally got to the point where I can start casting the big parts. The more I look at this, the more I'm impressed with Big Jim Slade's work and with my own. I really hate to say that, but when you hand off a piece of work to alleged professionals and they send you back a box of broken parts that you have to reconstruct..... When you've reconstructed those parts by hand, and find that many of the details that the alleged professionals were supposed to have fixed are wrong.. It kind of makes you look at your own work with a different view. Considering that this entire ship was broken when I got it back from Florida I'm not to impressed with the alleged professionals. Anyway, here are some photos of the primary hull before being cast...

Well, I've gotten several e-mails and PM's about this ship, so I thought one last update, before showing the molds and casts was in order. I went over the upper primary hull again and recovered some lost detail and sanded and primed ad infinitum and cleaned it up some more... It's getting closer, though this will be the last part to mold. I will not mold this part until it's 100%. I also worked on the very last set of broken nacelle parts and started the final corrections and finalization of the spine, while filling in all of the dremel gouges.... Still don't understand a lot of what was done with this ship....?!?!??!
One last update after this to show parts of the armature and wire runs, supports etc... Still have a few last details to come back from the laser cutter and one new part to come from the prototyper.

The work is great so far.
I like the detail your putting into it.
Lighting it is going to be a bear....the Nav dish seems like it would be a toughy to me.
Are you guys going to put in details like the Rec deck and the Botanical garden so it looks like it did in the film?
How about the shuttle bay?

Actually it's not going to be that much of a bear to light at all. This ship was built to light, that's why the brass tube and copper ribbon. Both can be used to facilitate lighting. The Deflector dish is going to look brilliant lit up as will other areas of the ship.
The base ship will not have the rec-deck and shuttle bay, but there will be an arboreatum. I'll show that in the build update. Having said that, anyone who purchase a kit will get options on all of the anciliary items to come.
The problem is that this ship has been delayed for almost three years, because we trusted someone with the facilities to do so to put the kit to market and we have to recoup some of the time and money that had already went into this ship.
When it came from the prototyper Dec 08, we were ready to move on it then and I did in fact work on most of the ship at different times, but it never got to market. Parts of this ship were shown at WF in 09. Since that period of time, the economy has tanked and we will have difficulty ever making our mney back and will never actually profit off of this.

I'd love to make it cheaper, but for the reasons listed above and others we simply can't. We will try to work with purchasers and can sell the kit in sections, to give those who wish, the time to work on it while saving money to buy the next set of parts.
As for future projects? There are already several that are on the bench and more than one that are ready to go to rubber. Unfortunately, we can't really say what they are as we've had people try to beat us to market on other things. So, when they are ready, we'll let you know.

Apart from the detail, which is staggering, it's still the shapes that get me.....my eyes just look at a piece of hull, saucer, bridge whatever and it all looks so "right"

Thank you, I sincerely appreciate that and will again, pass those sentiments along. Since I've started the build, I wanted to show a quick preview. Though these photos were taken in 09, just before I hand carried the ship to Wonderfest 09, they show more clearly the size and detail and possibilities possible with this ship. These parts and some details were shown in the Lizard Lounge at WF 09 and were viewed privately in my room at that event. This is level of detail that I've been trying to recover.
As a brief history... The ship was started in Nov of 06 and was originally going to be just a set of blueprints. The first part was generated as a demo part from the rapid prototyper in 07. The entire ship was prototyped in 08 and partially shipped and partially hand carried to a vendor in Florida Dec, of 08. I just got the ship back in May, or June of this year.
So, essentially Jim and I had a ship 3yrs ago Dec of this year.

I am so excited for this kit, I have to echo the comments before, the work you have put in really speaks for itself, I am incredibly glad you guys stuck with this amazing project, I also think the idea of selling the kit in stages in an excellent one, thank you

This is one truly fantastic model. The level of detail is just unbelievable it can be used as a movie prop.
I fully intend to do just that. I've already been creating space scenes and reviewing various music selections. Just think, the guy that bought the actual prop paid $250.000.00 dollars and you can get a half scale kit to build yourself and light etc for less than 1% of that cost, not to mention that fact that the one you buy will not have been through the ringer for 25+yrs.
