1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

For the outside door surround, as a little detail a blaster bolt hit or two might be interesting.

I've done them on small models with matchsticks, in this case you might need a bunch of them or a small firecracker but I like the idea of an untold firefight aboard the Falcon.
Whatever you do just don't burn the set down or I'll need to do the same to myself ;) This build keeps getting higher on my list of things in the world that I care about.

Ooh man the ESB adaptation is good, really really good. :cool

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Greg, the extension looks great.
Out of curiosity, while doing all of this amazingness, what are you referencing as you work? I know you've got Stevestarkiller's blueprints and such, I'm not talking about the original plans, but more the medium you've got in the garage. Have you been printing up full size templates, or going back and forth from a smaller scale copy of the plans? Or do you have a laptop right there in the garage covered in sawdust :lol The engineer half of me was wondering how you've tackled translating the prints to reality. :confused

Hi L,

Believe it or not... I'm using ONLY Starkiller's 3D model (minus screen grabs for details/greeblies). I pour over his 3D model taking down ALL the measurements for any particular part/area and then print out on simple 8.5X11 paper... Here are sample images of what Starkiller forwards me...

I've removed all the measurements for obvious reasons - sorry

You can see how there is nothing showing how to mount the beams... That's when I wing it...

It's a VERY long process. I have an entire binder filled with different images from different angles, etc... with every measurement and angle. Even the pin striping is done the same way... Sometimes I have to fill in the blanks and just guess how to mount something (i.e. the canopy beams above)... And, after chatting with Starkiller, he discovered a HUGE discrepancy between the canopy and the outer skin... I might have to rework them...

I hope this helps. :)

Hi C,

I like that idea... A small fire / burnt area would actually look kinda cool - how many times did the MF catch on fire or spark during the original series? :)

And yeah... I don't like the idea of the entire prop burning to ground either... that would not be cool. Definately not cool.

Thanks you, Sir! Just wait till the paint and pin stripe. OH... did you ever identify those panels that surround 4 of these extension panels?

Alas, I live in the great white north. I suppose it will be some time before I can make it out to a show that you are attending.

Hi Y,

What's a 1,000 mile drive? 1,000 miles? Nah... it'll seem like 300... 400 tops...

Thanks for the pics! It may be a long process, but it's definitely working (y)thumbsup:thumbsup

It is a LONG process... Now I get to take it all apart again before adding the new skin...

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

I did a VERY quick sketch of the backside of the first display stand and I think I'm going to go with this design. The only question is: Do I weather it the same as I did the quad platform or keep it neat and glossy like the medical stand from ESB?

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Give it a few dings, suggestive of medical carts and drugged patients bumping into it. No heavy weathering, as if it were constantly outside.
Likewise, since this is meant to be Falcon-ish, it could be a cargo manifest terminal or something, so maybe Chewy and Han carelessly kick it when loading cargo. Also, crates might sometimes bump into it.

Hi R4,

I like the idea of it being a cargo terminal. That way I can dirty it and bang it up a little - good call! :)

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

I did one more... I wasn't sure what to do with the top... it will be covered but I needed something. So I added a few details... I'm not sure whether you're looking at or tubing or a raised panel similar to the MF... :)

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

I was digging the idea of it being a scaled down version of the Falcon's landing leg just to keep the visual recognition, but then it takes it out of the "in universe" vibe and makes it more of a display piece. So even though you're making something entirely new I'd say it will add more to the realism by being "functional" instead of just "aesthetic".

Hi R,

I really liked the idea of the Landing Gear design as well... and in the end, either design would work. But I'm more excited by this final design. I can already see it finished in my head. And I agree... the Function does beat out the Aesthetic. :)

I just hope I have time to work on it. Tonight I'm hoping to get back on the ESB extension panels...

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

I have been watching this build for a while and I just have to say you are doing a phenomenal job!

Hi Batman,

Thanks so much! I really appreciate the kind words. It has been so much fun to build and honestly... I'm not sure what I'm going to do when it's over. An XWing? :)

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

Well... the nose has been built and because of the weight of the back frame the nose doesn't exactly align - the light weight temp frame is bowing just a bit - but I'll find a work around... I do have several 2X4s lying around and might use them... it adds weight but they won't flex as much... ugh...

It looks odd with that huge gap...

I actually ran out of bolts and couldn't mount the other upper side nose panel... I'm off to the improvement store and then I take the nose off and the extension frame and then hopefully I can begin to skin...

Hi Gang,

What should I do before the show... The display stand or the ESB extensions? :confused

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Extension frame is now down and apart... and like clock work... drizzle...

Light bars stay in place until the end
