1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

I prefer the one with the exposed tube/wire. :)

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi T,

Thanks for the kind words... I agree, the panel to the cockpit should be more simple. There is a more complex panel on the tunnel / tube going toward the hull - that's where I got my original idea. But you are correct... Less is better. I also like Panel 8 best - it's actually a copy of the upper nose cone panels - just squished.

What did you think of the ring idea? Yea? Nay?

Try overlaying it onto a pic of the back of your cockpit so you can get a better size reference of what you're looking at. I think the ring is cool but to me it looks like it has more of a purpose in the bigger area because it's "opening" up from a smaller tunnel like entrance. That make me think that the pads should hide that inner frame ring.
If you look in the background, behind han's left, there'a an arch with padding. That frame looks like it might better belong in that corridor where the door is you're working on. It looks like a solid recessed ring with rivets or bolt going around it.
I'll try to isolate what I'm talking about. again, this is just my opinion so ...grain of salt and all that.

Hi Gang,

Just a few more concepts... I'll think more about this tomorrow as I'm working on the project...

Dull and Simple - no pipes, wires, etc... a little weathering and a cockpit access panel

Pipes, wires, beauty ring, access panel exposed, cockpit access panel, weathering... the works...

It's tough to decide what direction to take... :)

Just a thought, since "we" can't go for "screen accuracy" for this part of the ship. On an actual freighter or aircraft there would be life support and emergency equipment located near the cockpit so it can be easily accessible to the crew.
I'm thinking a "star wars'y" first aid kit and the oxygen masks from ESB hanging on the wall as well as a tool kit or something...

Edit: what I mean by "we" are us fans... I couldn't possibly come close to what you've accomplished with this build. Amazed every day!

I vote for framing it out like in the last picture, with the open surround framework and panel access. Once that's fabbed out, you can add wire looms, ducting, whatever to your heart's content until it looks just right.

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

The last picture gets my two thumbs up! :thumbsup

I like the surround and the simple access panel side combined with one open "exposed" section.

If you ever want to include more later you have room to toss in a few things...or not.

Look great. Now build it!

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

I like what you've done with this one. ^ ^ It has all the best elements of the hallways. The ring is cool. You have exposed wires. You have a simpler control panel, which, I assume, the only function would be entry control and maybe life support status and security status. Weathering would be appropriate. Don't need a whole bunch of pads here, as the tunnel is made of pads for walking "through". This is looking great!

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

With the weight and inconvenience of the 3 larger platforms, I decided to leave them in Nashville for the upcoming GMX Show (3 day show!!!). With that, I spent the morning creating a simple sub platform with no floor to help move the cockpit around... I still need to get to the nose...

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

Last night I did a quick concept sketch of a display stand that would sit next to the cockpit/quad that could hold flyers, books, binders (showcasing the build), etc... nothing final

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Looks great! If you get a snowspeeder done, I request that the base of the brochure stand be an AT-AT foot

That would be REALLY COOL! You also just gave me the idea to create a small MF landing gear inspired display stand!

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang - UPDATES!

I was going to keep this a secret until the GMX show but quickly realized it would have been impossible especially taking build pics of the canopy... So... Having chatted with Starkiller and the getting the correct measurements... I've decided to build the 15" ESB extension panels. This will allow for more room in the "Pit" but also get that ESB look we all LOVE! I also plan to get to the back wall... :)

I was hoping to be a lot farther along... I should have the panels (I'm hoping) painted tomorrow night

This also means I have to build a 15" platform - ugh... I hope Chris has enough room ;)

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

The last line of the brochure should say "Many Bothans died to bring us this information."

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

The ESB extension pleases me... now I just need to finish my ESB Han costume and make the pilgrimage!

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

Well... not too many pics but lots of work... the mini platform took up some build time and I'm headed out to dinner (yes, I actually do have a life). This is going MUCH faster than the original panels but still not as fast as I would like. I'm going to get all the framing and mounting done before I add the skin. I'm hoping that the glue will help hold the frames in their final position. And like before, I will skin with MDF but paint BOTH sides to keep warping to a minimum.

Working on the light bar now - you can CLEARLY see the warping...

Without those HUGE platforms it's much easier to move
