1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi SK

I'm 99% sure the four panels are just vac formed over wooden blocks, as there are the double size versions and another slightly different design elsewhere on the Executer - must have been made to fill in the gaps with a sort of repeating SW universe theme. They take the place of type used in the ANH canon room, of course, but these do seem to be styled on the Jerry Can design with the rectangular centres and may be ment to represent various panels/hatches on B-17s and Short Sunderland aircraft.

The only other possibility I can think of is that they are vac formed from the underside of a lid from one of the storage boxes dotted about the place. But either way, they look to be made of a very thin material as there is quite a lot of bowing/warping on the flat parts.

That's as far as I got on them from last year.

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

That is a lot of woodwork to work. We need to get a local volunteer to come over to your place and build the stand. Who lives by you? Certainly if someone did, they'd know from seeing the gray quad cannon in the side yard!

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi SK,

On the off chance that you have't seen this/don't know about it, you absolutely have to check out the Millennium Falcon Haynes manual:

The Millennium Falcon Owner's Workshop Manual: Star Wars (Haynes Manuals): Ryder Windham, Chris Reiff, Chris Trevas: 9780345533043: Amazon.com: Books

... if only for all the images. It gives a great look at all the systems, panels, wall spaces, everything. Not much of a "Haynes manual" in the repair sense though :D

Hi W,

I think you're spot on. They just appear to have that "plastic" look. With that, I've been looking on line on how to vacuform - seems fairly easy and straight forward. I might build a vacuform table to make not only those panels but also finish the quad tips!

Hey DJ,

Actually... cutting and attaching the panels is easy - it's the sanding and getting the angles of the edges perfect. At first I tried using the table saw but that proved too sketchy... so I moved to the sander. I should have all the panels cut by the weekend.

Anybody is welcome anytime to come over and help! :)

Hi X,

I have seen the manual - never got the chance to read it though - bad me!

Hi A,

I've seen only a handful of the images you posted! I hadn't seen the pic of the "belly gun" we see used on Hoth. EXCELLENT! Thank you for posting!

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

Just a quick morning update. As you know by the pics already posted, the 15" extension frame is built and the nose and front window arch are now in place... Not sure WHY or HOW, but the canopy beams are now too short and don't exactly fit. I might have to look at the nose frame and try to figure out what's going on. Technically, the distance between the front window arch and the new 15" extension should be the exact same without the extension. It's very odd... but it's par for the course when I have NO IDEA what I'm doing. :)

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

The panels have been skinned. I'm now sanding the edges smooth and to their correct angles and bolting them in place to dry

Tomorrow - paint and pin striping!

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

What should I do before the show... The display stand or the ESB extensions? :confused

My vote is for the extension... sure the stand would be nice to have, but the extensions are gonna have more pop.

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Before this thread, I had no idea the Falcon cockpit had extensions in ESB. Can someone show me a comparison? I have all 3 original trilogy movies, so you can tell me where to pause.

Hi Red,

ANH - Note how short the light bar is on the side wall above Han's head
Shadow of Reflection: Movie Screencaps R-S: Click image to close this window

ESB - Note how much longer the light bar is and an extra panel has been added

Hope this helps :)

Looks like I'll have time to do both!

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

Extensions are finished! They are now in place and I hope the glue dries without too much warping! Tomorrow... paint!

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Is Alec Guiness Standing up in that ANH shot? Is the floor behind the pilot and co-pilot seats lower? I thought I remember seeing that the floor closest to the door was a step down. Might make sense as to why the door looks taller when they walk through it.

Hi T,

Check out this image... You can see how low the floor actually is compared to where Han and Chewie sit and even the passenger seats...

For my project, I removed over 12" in order for the cockpit to fit in the garage and also to avoid having to create the underside of the nose.

Hi A,

THANKS again for the great images! Quick question... are there any images of the side wall / ESB extensions that I am currently working?
