Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

REAL SUPER quick concept of Landing Gear Display Stand

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

I think you need to blow out the back wall of the garage and build the hall. :D

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

The landing gear version of the display stand looks cool but not sure what's best. The first one has a great style to it and looks like something which belongs in the SW universe.

I agree brother, that first concept looks great.

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

I had to do some minor surgery on the frame... I put the castors too close to the middle of the frame and the weight of the Pit walls was causing the frame to bow... So...

The new light bars are all finished... Unless I can figure out how to illuminate these I'm going to stick with the same approach - cover with MDF and paint a high gloss white

AHHH... I just LOVE warping...

3 more frames to go

Almost there... After the frames are done... skin with MDF

Once paint goes on... What a difference that will make! :)

Another "Landing Gear" inspired display stand...

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

For the light bars, why don't you pick up a fluorescent light ceiling panel from a large hardware store (see photo), cut it into the desired shapes for mounting, and light from behind with single-strip fluorescent lights, or something similar, under the kitchen counter-ish, even LED-light strips if workable. You might also want to ask the guy working on the Lost in Space "Jupiter 2" room in his garage what he used for the light strips & panels that go from floor to ceiling in that room.

Hi Gang,

Well... the framing is done and just as I was about the skin'um... it started to rain. The rain held off ALL day so I'm not upset at all. :)

After creating these two frames I bolted them to the top panels - this was NOT easy to install...

But... here we are

Good day... Depending on the weather this week I "hope" to get to the skin, then paint, the pin striping! :)

I'm also running out of bolts...

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Just a thought, since "we" can't go for "screen accuracy" for this part of the ship. On an actual freighter or aircraft there would be life support and emergency equipment located near the cockpit so it can be easily accessible to the crew.
I'm thinking a "star wars'y" first aid kit and the oxygen masks from ESB hanging on the wall as well as a tool kit or something...

Edit: what I mean by "we" are us fans... I couldn't possibly come close to what you've accomplished with this build. Amazed every day!

Hi C,

Thanks for the kind words... I like your idea about adding emergency / tool equipment. I'm going to go screen grab viewing (focus on medical bays) and hope to find some inspiration.

Lots happening in the next few weeks :)

There should be a condom dispenser.

LOL Add some greeblies and it just might work... Too bad it's not Star Trek. I could have labelled them "Wrath of Kahn-Dums"

- - - Updated - - -

I vote for framing it out like in the last picture, with the open surround framework and panel access. Once that's fabbed out, you can add wire looms, ducting, whatever to your heart's content until it looks just right.

The measurement / circle is going to be interesting. Because the "Pit" isn't a perfect circle I'm going to have to do ALOT of tinkering...

- - - Updated - - -

The last picture gets my two thumbs up! :thumbsup

I like the surround and the simple access panel side combined with one open "exposed" section.

If you ever want to include more later you have room to toss in a few things...or not.

Look great. Now build it!

LOL! Yes, Sir! Thank the Maker for Screen Grabs. I've been pouring through everything hoping to find the right combination of greeblies and misc items

- - - Updated - - -

I'm with the majority -I like the busier version too.

Agree - there needs to be some visual interest... As a kid, I always thought if push came to shove the cockpit could separate from the ship and act as a kind of life boat if the escape pods were gone or non-functional (thus the idea of the ring).

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

I like what you've done with this one. ^ ^ It has all the best elements of the hallways. The ring is cool. You have exposed wires. You have a simpler control panel, which, I assume, the only function would be entry control and maybe life support status and security status. Weathering would be appropriate. Don't need a whole bunch of pads here, as the tunnel is made of pads for walking "through". This is looking great!

As much I love the padding - You are correct, they're not necessary (minus the door frame). As I've mentioned, I'm pouring over screen grabs hoping to find that perfect balance and combination of greeblies, wires, pipes and the access panel.

The last line of the brochure should say "Many Bothans died to bring us this information."

When this project is all said and done... "... Many brain cells WILL die to bring us the 1:1 scale prop"

The ESB extension pleases me... now I just need to finish my ESB Han costume and make the pilgrimage!

I aim to please... You're welcome anytime! Are you close to Nashville, TN? We'll be at the GMX show in Nov

Thanks! I'm still sketching out ideas. I have about 15 in front of me right me now. :)

I agree brother, that first concept looks great.

Thank you, Sir. I'm now looking at different SW screen grabs looking for stands (the medical stand is awesome). I'll narrow a basic design down. Whether I will have time to actually complete it before the show?

Hey T,

The "lighting" isn't the concern. I'm not sure what material to use for the light bar housing. The edges need to be thin enough to allow enough light through and not have a blacked out edge - note the edges of the light bars: Also - note how cramped the cockpit is:

That's a good idea: I'll contact the Jupiter 2 guy. :)

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Oh! The empire's addition makes me happy!
For the display why not try the already excistent desing from the medical frigate, we can see at the end of Empire.

Hi A,

VERY COOL! I LOVE that design. Fortunately, we're able to see the front of the stand during the "Bacta" tank scene. It looks like they changed a few of the greeblies. The Volvo dash panel can be seen hanging on the side (look between 3POs arm and torso):

It's still a "design" in process. I would like to resemble elements from the quad base - it gives me the opportunity to weather something again - that's why I like the landing gear concept...

Decisions Decisions :)

Hey J,

Thank you, my friend! It was an amazing time and such fun. Met some wonderful folks too. It was humbling hearing all the positive comments. The biggest surpirse was the amount of folks willing to help set up and tear down - wonderful people! Wish you could have been there

Alas, I live in the great white north. I suppose it will be some time before I can make it out to a show that you are attending.

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Greg, the extension looks great.
Out of curiosity, while doing all of this amazingness, what are you referencing as you work? I know you've got Stevestarkiller's blueprints and such, I'm not talking about the original plans, but more the medium you've got in the garage. Have you been printing up full size templates, or going back and forth from a smaller scale copy of the plans? Or do you have a laptop right there in the garage covered in sawdust :lol The engineer half of me was wondering how you've tackled translating the prints to reality. :confused
