1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Too awesome!!! Did you ever think about possibly making the gun barrels reciprocate?

Hi L,

Everytime I look at the quad I think "how can make these things move?" Unless there was a simple way to make the barrels move, I'll just keep it a static display. But... there are two quads on the Falcon... So, depending on Chris Lee's thoughts and ideas, we just might see two working quads afterall! :)

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Absolutely beautiful work, This would make the most amazing simulation pit (simpit) for games playing
I didn't notice anywhere in all the 136 pages I went through this evening that you had any sizing plans you're working from, was this all from trial and error from the photos and 3D model?

You should size up everything and make some .PDF plans and earn a little from selling them.

You have great dedication to an awesome project.

Hi D,

Thank you for the very kind words and compliments. And thanks for actually having looked through all 156 pages! :) Believe it or not, the entire build was done from screen grabs, artistic license and Steve Starkiller's amazing 1:1 scale 3D model of the MF. I don't pretend to be a master builder so there was plenty of trial of error and HUGE mistakes along the way. But this entire project could never have been done w/o Starkiller. You can see his full 3D build here: The first pic you see should explain it all - LOL

http://www.therpf.com/f11/screen-accurate-millennium-falcon-cockpit-cg-model-102451/

I'm not sure where Starkiller is on the idea with the PDFs. He has created virutally everything we've seen (on screen) in the MF at full scale. I can't speak for him, but I'm sure it's crossed his mind.

Thanks again for the kind words. I have only 1 weekend left before the show so I am going to scramble to get some sort of canopy created! Dang-Nab-It!

So stay tuned!

Hi Gang,

I'm at a 95% solution for the slider bases. I sprayed what I hope is the last of the primer this morning. I should be able to sand and make a mold this afternoon - fingers crossed!

Also, I had the idea of cutting out holes and backlighting the vertical gauges but I wanted to get your opinions before I butchered a perfectly innocent pinstriped panel :)

Whew... still lots to do!

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

I was looking through pics of the throttle housing (as you all know, I still have yet to finish it - grrr)... But I noticed something very interesting... In this pic, the throttle housing appears to be the light color grey as opposed to the darker color grey. Wanted to get your opinions. Is this the lighter color and which do you all prefer?

Lighter

Darker (hmmmm... now I can't tell) Is it lighter after all?

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

I think it's the darker shade and just catching the light, as it's the only surface on the dash at that angle it's giving a sort of inbetween the two shades appearance.

edit: on the ANH dash that is.
edit edit: lighter grey on the ESB.

Agreeing with Wavey, the light is coming it at very different angles in each scene (multiple lights too of course). It looks like as much a reflection off a semi-glossy surface in ESB. The camera settings might have also encouraged that reflection.

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

The slider base is ready for casting... I didn't get to it last night. I finally watch Star Trek Into Darkness - very cool movie! :)

You can see all the minor imperfections up close - but no worries

There is a laundry list of things to do before the Makers Faire in two weeks... I'm going to try to take a half day Friday (tomorrow) and hope for the best!

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Think of it this way, nobody has built this much of a Falcon since 1983. Your incomplete cockpit is gonna make heads spin.

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Yeah, it definitely appears lighter!

I agree - the only problem - I can't see the part of the console where Han and Chewie would rest their elbows... I might just stick with the darker color to match with the center console.

Agreed. I'm going to stick with the original ANH version and then greeblie it up. I only have two of the throttle levers... but, I think the overall will be there. :)

After a long look and viewing other screen grabs - I agree. :)

Hi Red,

Thanks. I can be my own worst critic... I never like to leave anything unfinished. I'm stocking up on Red Bull and Red Vines - that should get me through the weekend! :)

Great going G, keep up the good work! You can take an hour off after the fair, before converting to ESB :D

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

It looks like SofaKing has some competition!

According to recent rumors, the interior of the Falcon has already been built at Pinewood Studios!

That doesn't count. It's not a replica, and it's being built by a team using better tools and measurements than Sofaking. Sofaking is one man, using elbow grease and chewing gum, and paces instead of metrics.

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Cor blimey, if it has been made already... I don't know how to finish this sentance lol!

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Let me try to finish it for you... IF it has been built already, then a pic or two will leak out soon... That's too iconic of a set for someone to restrain from snapping a phone camera pic or something...

Great job on all this BTW... I'm continually amazed whenever I stop by to see the progress. :)

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Cheers Jason, I was close to slappin myself around the head and neck and shouting "pull yaself together man, it's an IF!"

I've been wondering if the SW archives actually has a Meccano type construction manual and real parts list for just such an occasion.

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Haha...That would be awesome if they did...

I know when they recreated the Lars kitchen for the prequels, they only had photos to work from for the most part...But they had much more reference for the Blockade Runner hallway, and they still got the details wrong on that one.

If they are smart, they would have guys lurking around here at the RPF to pick up as much info as possible...hehe...I mean, WE are the ones that obsess over it...Right?

I read that yesterday. :) I'm sure photos will leak VERY soon AND if they are going to film a HS stand alone film they will need the MF in whatever stage / phase the MF might be in.

Hi J,

Thanks much! As I always say - I just wish I was further along (let alone part of the team working on the real one). And I agree - photos of MF interior and/or cockpit will come soon. It will be nothing we haven't already seen before BUT it will be something we haven't seen in 30 years! :D It will be interesting to see if they recreate the ANH version or the ESB version. Either way... It's going to be EPIC!

Hey W,

The SW Blueprints were released several years back - but it wouldn't surprise me if Lucas held on to a few secrets. Imagine if they held on to the cockpit but kept it secret all these years! That would be heart stopping!

I have no doubt there are LFL guys lurking and poking about. They would be foolish not to. Just as it's foolish not to reach out and give us small bit parts in the upcoming movies! ;)

BTW - I just saw Star Trek Into Darkness (I wait for it to come out on the small screen) and JJA did a wonderful job. My fears are slowly fading... :)

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

The speed of the progress on your project is great, I wish I could match it, and the quality! :)
