1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Will you ever go back and do the lightbars properly after the show?

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Oh man this is getting sweet!. Excellent job. Are you gonna beaten up the darken areas/symbols(triangles etc) so they are like washed up on the white metal?

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

I'm continuing to love this.

My official reason for upgrading my Han Solo costume is now so I'll look correct when I come to play in your garage.

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Looking good, it's always a joy to see the progress on this build! :)

Thank you, Sir. The weathering was alot of fun! Two more barrels and a few scuff marks and I think the quad can be considered finished! How's R2 coming? :)

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Have you thought about filling in the printed slider piece so the section that is giving you issues isn't as deep? It might help when removing from your mold. Also, Have you tried using a spray mold release? (I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to making or using molds. Just throwing some ideas out there)

Hi D,

I've done cast a few items myself. It's been alot of fun and I've learned a great deal. But... I decided to use the original pieces I made months ago. I added some thin strips of balsa to the top to simulate the center. I added filler last night and I still have some sanding to do to even out the edges, but this piece should do the trick. The original pieces used were PC Edge Connectors made from hard plastic. They're not cheap... I can't justify paying $10 a piece for 18 of them.

Leaky hydraulics! Marvelous!!

Hey W,

I got to thinking... Those tubes would have looked MUCH cooler had they been painted silver AND THEN added the leaky hydraulic fluid... But I'm still really thrilled with how it turned out. I'm going to pick up some gloss clear to brush on to highlight the leaks. :)

Hi Red,

ABSOLUTELY! The frames I created were just too thick. The edges would not have allowed that much light to pass through. I'm going to take my time and fabricate new thinner style frames.

Hi A,

Thanks so much! I think you have a great idea with the darker areas and triangles. They definately need to be scuffed up. I'll take some sandpaper and lightly scuff up key areas.

Hi F,

LOL Thank you! You're welcome to come by my garage anytime! :)

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

You make all my projects look so small scale ;)

Unbelievable how good both the cockpit and gun look. Keep those progress pics coming.

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hey S,

Thank you so much for the kind words. I've tinkered with projects over the years (built a shed, design and fabricated a fiberglass dash) but this is the first time I've done ANYTHING this scale. And the weathering was actually alot easier than I feared. I'm looking forward to the final scuff marks, some gloss at the hydraulic fluid areas and then marking this project complete!

Stay Tuned for More!

Hey SofaKing01,

That quad gun is amazing!! Is it possible to show the "product" next to some source photos? I can't believe how "Star Wars" it looks! Absolutely Fabulous! :thumbsup

Hi Dan,

Thank you for the kind words! The quad is a hybrid between the full scale prop and the 5' studio scale model. Since we have no idea what the full scale prop is made of - minus the Rolls Royce / Derwent burners, it made more sense to create the familiar 5' scale model version - plus having been able to work with Steve Starkiller's 3D model didn't hurt either!

If you click on this link it will show you how I was able to come up with the basic design for the quad: The Full Scale Millennium Falcon Project

The weathering was alot of fun! I still have a few more little scuffs to add but she's almost there! Along with watching Adam Savage's "tutorial" on weathering, I referenced alot of screen shots of the full scale MF:

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

I worked on the edge connector last night and she's almost ready to be cast! I also tried scuffing up the platform with sandpaper but it's not working the way I want. So, I'm going to use a little of the light grey paint to create the scuffs and then use the black-wash once again for weathering. :)

Sorry, no pics...

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Too awesome!!! Did you ever think about possibly making the gun barrels reciprocate?

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Absolutely beautiful work, This would make the most amazing simulation pit (simpit) for games playing
I didn't notice anywhere in all the 136 pages I went through this evening that you had any sizing plans you're working from, was this all from trial and error from the photos and 3D model?

You should size up everything and make some .PDF plans and earn a little from selling them.

You have great dedication to an awesome project.
