You have never seen the Blade Runner blaster before - PHOTOS RESTORED

Noeland,

After watching what happens to me when I post, do you think they'd be inclined to express their feelings here? They'd be better served volunteering for the Roman Circus.

Phil
[/b]

What is happening to you? I see only questions that are answered in glittering generalities.

It's the fact that there are no definitive answers given so it's obvious people would question you.

"Brunt of thier wrath" means getting yelled at over the phone by a friend. No one like when that happens.

Phil
[/b]

Why would you be shouted at? Just because you're a member here? You didn't post the pictures. :unsure
I'm not by any stretch of the imagination judging you Phil, as you have strived to bring information to this community many times in the past, and provided us with superb castings of original pieces - but perhaps the term 'friend' needs to be examined in the above context. I would have certainly yelled back.
Replicators of the RPF self-righteous?
I think not.
'Good old boys.'
Far from it as far as the facts have emerged.

This is all becoming very childish. If the owner of the original is one of the 'shouters' then he/she shouldn't have exhibited the prop at the Worldcon SF community event in the first place. They're aware of the RPF, so it's obvious the information would end up here, THE internet SF prop forum.
It makes me wonder at the mentality of these collectors - and I agree with noeland's post considerably.
I understand several members have items they cannot share with the rest of us, that's fine - but to have a couple of members taken to task when they have done absolutely nothing wrong is unfair and deserves an apology IMHO.

Perhaps in future we should all hide our prop discoveries - I should have cast up the Eumig body I found and sold it here, Serafino should have kept the balance pipe info to himself and had replicas machined - as should have Killdozer upon finding the booster - I could go on. Then we could have all sat back with our fingers clasped across our stomaches, self -satisfied as we watch the members scratching their heads.
The thing is the majority of members here share what they find in the good natured tradition of companionship and community, knowing others have an unyielding passion for these pieces which goes beyond personal profit. They just want an accurate piece in the cabinet or on the wall.
At the end of the day I sincerely believe that's what it's all about, money.
Time (and not too much of it if you ask me) will tell. After all, the pictures are still 'out there' and no amount of shouting at friends can stop an accurate replica being built now.
I just wish I had the machine shop to build one for myself.

Howard.

The earlier "shouted at" metaphor comment was related to the wallet. There's been no "shouting" about the blaster.

Let me craft a little message about the fine line one begins to walk when receiving information from screen-used prop owners and whether or not to share it with people who are known to make replicas. My next post will explain this extremely complex dynamic.

Thanks for the clarification, Phil.

Only the most holy of holies are allowed to gaze upon the treasured relic...

It's a toy gun from a second rate film. Kinda cool lookin', but that's all.

The owners of the guns sure don't mind making money off of them. If the guns were worth a dollar, their concern over copies would evaporate.

You're either in the wrong thread or on the wrong forum.

Phil[/b]

So, these folks don't have a very thick skin then? To be able to handle posting here? Too bad. :unsure

While I got a good chuckle out of this, it could be read to be pretty insulting to the members here, and the other folks who have posted in this thread.

With all due respect Phil, I think you are making your own bed. You are willingly the sole voice of the high end collectors in this thread. Had you not posted to be knowing about thier feelings, there wouldn't be any posts about them at all.

You can't have it both ways, you cannot be the bringer of information, the shining knight of propdom, and the mouthpiece for curmudgeonly prop owners who are looking to supress and hide. Man, that sounded dramatic. You're rubbing off on me.

I can't imagine you expected people to say "Oh, those guys are upset? Well OK then, everything is fine, we will remian silent on the issue." You're a very smart man, and even now you are distratcing us all from the current point.

Richard asked Karl to take the photos down, and that ain't cool.

Now, what exactly IS a Roman Circus? Do we have pictures of THAT?? :D

What?

RAC?

Yep, supposedly.
You'll need to check back through quite a few pages to find the reference though.

Got it.
Interesting.

EDIT: Just seen your post temponaut, many thanks.

Please understand. I was contacted by the owner and asked to pull the
Photos.

I felt that if he has not spoken to Karl, then I was not going to give up
Karl, I felt if trouble happens I would try to protect Karl and take the heat
myself.

I was not going to rat Karl out.

I then asked Karl if he had gotten any contact from the owner, he said no.

So I asked Karl if he would pull the photos.

He said he would.

That is where things stand right now.

I for one would NEVER think of suppressing info, because I believe in the free exchange of information, that I believe an informed buyer make a better buyer, and I hate how many times I have had to tell someone that that treasured Star Trek Prop they kept in their safety deposit box for 25 years is a Jim Kirk model or some elses's model, not a real Trek prop and more or less worthless, and not going to help the save Granny or but a new home or a new heart for daddyÂ…

And I KNOW how many all ready copied them.

Rich
[/b]

Merely for convenience...

Can you clarify?

Was this the owner of the gun Karl photgraphed? Or an owner of a different hero blaster?

Ego and money, it's what ruins many a good prop project.

Build your own stuff and don't obsess over the minutia.

It's just a hobby.

Its clear what has happened here.

Guido Sidkits of the prop mafia in Italy wants to make his own copy and was worried about Rich better quality. :angel

so Guido Sidkits made Rich AN OFFER HE COULD NOT REFUSE :lol :lol :lol

just Kidding folks but i had to :p .

john :cool

Micdavis - As Howard said to another member "You're either in the wrong thread or on the wrong forum." :D

I think we should all calm down, step back a bit and wait to see what happens. Clearly there are things occuring in the background here and they will probably sort themselves out one way or another. This will be either RAC or Phil or someone making an announcement I guess...
In the meantime we've waited years for such revelations as this and i'm sure a few more days/weeks/months won't make much difference.
Also, those who want the pics can still get them from those with the foresight to right click away at the beginning.

SAS

Phil,

You and your friends are just wrong.

Have a nice day.

edited to prevent possible banning.

Don't blame the RPF, Karl, RAC, or any of the other players here. Blame the owner of the prop. How stupid can you be. You take a treasure like that to a public convention where (by chance one member of a nearly 4000 member group who is quite interested in this subject matter) sees, photographs, and shares his photos with the group. Then you have the gall to aks that the pics be taken down. If there was a problem with details of this prop becoming public then it should never have been in a public place in the first place.
