Yoda VD lightsaber discussion

Re: Yoda VD lightsaber question

The two square holes are on the same side as mine, so yeah, mirrored.

Where did your oil pan come from?

Someone with a proper one needs to make casts! I can't believe it's such a pain to get one. Had to make my own.

So I have to decide if I want to leave it this way and nobody instead of me will know or have to loosen the switch from the clamp and redo the clamp with filling sanding and painting.

I'm sorry I don't know where the oilpan comes from I just had some luck on the bay with this Bolsey. It came without the grips and the seller claims it were an original oilpan.
But I haven't done any research yet so I'm not sure.

Some close-ups

Re: Yoda VD lightsaber question

it would be easier to fill the notch by the screw, flip the whole thing upside down, than to fill the two squares, and recut on the other side.

But then you would have to pop off the oil pan, *make castings* :D, and put it on facing the other way.

Or just leave it as mirrored.

I love my kinda inaccurate Yoda Bolsey.

Re: Yoda VD lightsaber question

I took a few snaps of it for Mugatu who I sold it to and shipped it this morning.

But for the shroud... I don't know. It came to me from someone on IRA so I'm not sure. It DID have the head that you posted a pic of above.

Got any pics scottjua? Is it an original Praco shroud? Or a Bolsey #2? As far as I know Bolsey #2 doesn't come with a knurled endcap but I could be mistaken. The endcap of the Praco screws inside until it does not go further ... there's still a flat space not knurled visible :

Praco endcap on the left, Bolsey #2 on the right :)

Endcap as seen on a real Praco Yoda lightsaber :

Re: Yoda VD lightsaber question

@ Luke the Belter ... leave it as is ... and join the Yoda Bolsey #2 Saber Group a.k.a. YBSG :lol ... or like NeoRutty said pop off that oilpan place it to the left side of the rectangular holes :

make castings of that replica resin oilpan ;) ... remove that nut and place it on the other side, fill, sand and repaint all the gaps that are left over and add the grips :wacko

@ scottjua ... thanks for those pictures it could have been an original Praco shroud although I can't see how if the flashgun came with the same bulb holder :confused

Re: Yoda VD lightsaber question

My Bolsey II has the end cap covered in black paint(?), but unless that paint is exceptionally thick, the end cap is not knurled at all.
Also, both of my Service end caps have the two pins protruding as mentioned before, and where the pins go into the cap, the cap has a sheared flat section, so not quite accurate in that aspect either.

END CAP close ups:

Bolsey II

Service Flashmaker 1 (the box says "Model B" on it)

Service Flashmaker 2 (also a Model B according to its box)

Hopefully these pics don't have any issues.

Re: Yoda VD lightsaber question

Lol... no clue. I bought it along with a Bolsey 2 and a Service flash. I sold the others back to the seller last year, but kept the praco.

Chaim, I absolutely will get those out there along with my Mikuni jets! I have a second Bolsey II waiting to be delivered (along with an actual Bolsey camera!)

Let me tell you, my ability to stay focused on one project at a time is astounding!!! I think I may finally be willing to admit to my wife that I have ADD, brought on by the RPF and siren call of the Junkyard.

Re: Yoda VD lightsaber question

Mukini Jets? pics?

I bought one for my yoda... I'm sure there is a better out there though... such as the one(s) you have?

Re: Yoda VD lightsaber question

As you can see in the picture of post # 179 my Bolsey 2 endcap is not knurled either, mugatu :) When you receive your Praco you now know how to remove the anodised black, right?

I just checked your build thread and I think I have the same ones that you used. Chaim had mentioned the 135c in post 11 of your thread, and I am pretty sure that is what I have.
The dimensions look the same as the one you have already installed.

Chaim, yes, thanks once again to you and other RPFers, I know how to deal with this Sithy blackness on the end cap.

Re: Yoda VD lightsaber question

Perhaps I could persuade Roy from wannawanga.com to produce a run of oilpans based on the one on my Bolsey 2 ... that would leave me with an exact duplicate for my Praco and an opportunity for some of you to upgrade, yes? Now would you prefer a metal oilpan or somesort of resin ... if we have an option on both ... when Roy agrees?

Re: Yoda VD lightsaber question

So, does Yoda just use the force to keep this attached to his belt?

Re: Yoda VD lightsaber question

Sssh ... perhaps there's a magnet hidden underneath his belt ... just keep that under your hat ... this message will selfdestruct within 10... 9... 8... 7... :)

Re: Yoda VD lightsaber question

Ok...thought about popping of the oilpan did it. I don't know how it is attached to the clamp so I'm afraid to damage something.

I'll join the club :ninja

Re: Yoda VD lightsaber question

Yep I remember the guy saying they just "cast up some grips" to finish it off.

Well....sort of... On the original version Steve had put white double stick foam for grips. Leaving, of course, the paper on the exterior part. I was not at all happy with that so I removed them all and used some leftover rubber grips that Steve had cast to use for his Darth Vader grips. -Ed

Re: Yoda VD lightsaber question

Yeah if someone does a run of grips, that would be good too!

*Roy* cough *Roy*

I like mine, but again... They're not at all accurate but still kinda cool.
