Yale and ERA Tardis Key Research (Info for the 1963-present keys)

Re: Yale and ERA Tardis Key Research (Info for the 2005-present keys)

Had my Yale Y1's cut to fit my lock. I have to say they aren't as silver as Straker's not are they as brassy as TimeyWhimyStuff. I still have yet to sand one of the logo, but as they look nice together it'll do till I come across a more silver one. Either way the unsanded one will be a nice stand in for my Davison/C.Baker key. Since we can have more liberties with that one.

I did yes, I received my keys about a week before you posted yours, just hadn't had time to have them cut. I felt they looked more brass than I had hoped as well, but I think a lot of it is how they catch the light. I am interested to see what you come up with with the other guy you found though.

Yeah on second glance yours may be like the ones I got too, your pic just has more light to it. I'm still talking to that other guy, he said he's looking through all his old stock.

A silver key is preferable for sure. I expect our keys are the same but your picture does make them look darker than they are to the eye for my key. I have a friend doing a search in Australia for some of these keys, I feel a bit obsessive now ;)

Yeah my g/f thinks I'm a nut, she's like.. "KEYS, THERE'S KEYS EVERYWHERE & YOU'RE NOT EVEN GONNA DO ANYTHING WITH THEM" :lol

It can be a bit odd having so many keys, but thankfully I can claim mine actually open something. So therefore they all serve a purpose right? I mean who doesn't need At least 9 keys to the same lock right? :/

Only 9? Pfff! Lightweight XD Kidding. I have an unhealthy obsession with Tardis keys in general XD

Keep in mind guys, even my own Y1 keys aren't straight silver. If you check the first post there's a picture of an older Yale even more silver than these that still patina'd on me with water. They are an alloy of brass and something...I SAY steel but it could be nickle too. The key in the Christmas episode looks slightly yellowish to me and the double bumpers make it look like a blanked and unplated Yale to me. Like Terrasolo said though, it COULD be a lighting issue as well. I always try to take the best lighted picture as I can with these.

Re: Yale and ERA Tardis Key Research (Info for the 2005-present keys)

lol, I honestly have far too many keys. For the ERA I bought 12 extras on top of my 3 that came with the lock. I gifted some of them, but still! I have at least 8 UK JMA's and 3 Yales (1 vintage and 2 from the link above) and two more keys on their way to me. This isn't even counting the US JMAs or the non key TARDIS keys. I think i have a problem...

So far.. 6 ERA's (gifted 2), 18 U.K. JMA's, the Silca just posted, and those 6 YALE's. Just found some classic YALE's on Etsy :lol.

Re: Yale and ERA Tardis Key Research (Info for the 2005-present keys)

I was looking at some classic Yales on ebay. They all looked very brass to me. Not sure I need them now though, unless we can find a better match for the 11 key.

Well if the classic Yales I just got sand right it'd be spot on for Clara's.

Really? Are they still selling or was it a one time thing?

Re: Yale and ERA Tardis Key Research (Info for the 2005-present keys)

So I am about sick of being mislead through photos.. as I showed you guys this was the listing pic for those classic YALE's that I found on Etsy.

And this is what I got..

I mean that's seriously like night & day difference.

Going to go up to Home Depot tomorrow to find some kind of stripper or polish but that's seriously annoying, there can't be that much attributed to lighting on this. :angry:angry:angry

You's be amazed at how much can be attributed to lighting XD Actually the color on those look OK to my eyes.

Re: Yale and ERA Tardis Key Research (Info for the 2005-present keys)

That's rough. I am wondering now how many silver versions there are out there for Yale, because every time I see a Yale key it is various shades of brass.

Re: Yale and ERA Tardis Key Research (Info for the 2005-present keys)

So just spent the last 2 hours polishing these up with Brasso.. looking much better.

Before & after,

I guess it really is lighting cuz they still have a tinge of bronze to them but are overall much much lighter.
