X-Men 2 Carphone

look for the smallest universal one you can find. I took one I had a part just to find out that the battery alone was too big to fit in the one were working on. THINK SMALL......

haha thanks RM:D... I think the biggest cheer goes to you for bringing such a cool prop idea to the forum.

Anyway we are far from finishing this prop, we have a shell but no mechanism or bluetooth...**** we have LOADS to do:p

Have you tried dealextreme.com? they have lots and lots of bluetooth earpieces for cheap.

As you see from this blue tooth device. the main concern is the battery. Its twice as thick as the PC board.

I'll look into that. I figured, I'd be changing out the wires for longer ones, but I wasn't expecting the battery to be that bulky. It shouldn't be an issue though.

The RX8 it popped out of would be be the big holy grail. Screw the batmobile this one automatically plays the Backstreet Boys. :lol

Bluetooth + pop-out feature + SA sound effect + metal parts = friggin' best day of my life.

Nope! This is N' Sync "Bye Bye Bye" songs , I didn't like this groupies of music.
but is my fave Backstreet Boys.

You can buy those foil packet Li-ion batteries separately but I don't think you're going to get much smaller. You can always go with, a series of button cells, but at the cost of battery life.

the small batteries that attach to the little bluetooth boards are really bad. I've experiment on my own with making my TMNT shell phone and out of 3 separate boards, the batteries die very very quickly if you do not charge them continously. After a week or so uncharged, they die and you can't charge them any more, which is a pain in the A$$. I would recommend button cells if possible.

I will certainly take all this onboard for consideration, guys! Thanks for the input.

On the song...come on. Who cares...really? Those that got it right and prove me wrong, good on you. But you weren't the first to do so. :behave

Here was my Ideal for the latching mechanism for the phone. Trying to keep it simple and make room for the Bluetooth device.a couple of springs some latching rails, and molded in stop catches I think will do the tick. Unless someone has a better input for this.

one for each side so they release evenly at both end at the same time. If I used one I thought it might try to open on an angle. Also I incorporated an open and closed catch on each end. it might be possible to just use one on the spring mechanism. Its just a rough Ideal. open for modification and improvement.
the needs of the many out way the needs of the few or the one.

Shapeways | jaybible's designs

Ok guys here is the link to the parts. Im still waiting for approval from shapeways, telling me that all dimensions are ok and fit for production.
I'm not charging anything extra and when we have everything sorted and changed I will prob get castings sorted, so dont worry if its not exactly what you want cos its not finished yet:p... I will supply everyone who helped here with a complete model once everything is perfect.. and i will only charge ye guys for delivery costs since ye will have helped out so much in getting this completed:)

Oh and dont forget you have to buy 2 of the side clips:p

Sweet! So close. I just took a look at the link, and my only question was I thought the upper and lower pieces are one there, as earlier they were shelled front and back as two. My concern is that I wanted to install actual hex screws to hold the two pieces together. If they are as only a whole now, it's not a big deal as I may be able to work around that, hopefully.

I had to make them all one as it wasn't feasible to have them as 2 pieces due to such a small wall thickness. I was thinking of trying to make it 2 piece when I cast them up..hopefully in metal:)

:eek Seriously?? :love Oh man...
Any idea what kind of metal, aluminum maybe?

Whatever I can get really. Something with a reasonably low melting point anyway. Its gonna be an interesting learning process!

And the link should work above, I just got an email saying the parts are good to go:)

Before Christmas I had Shapeways print my Illusionist locket, and then cast it up in pewter (still working out the last two pieces now).

I learnt a lot about making the prints smooth and creating moulds for metal casting, so if you want any tips shoot me a pm.

Pewter huh. Hmm, that's a heavy, soft and malleable metal, given it's low melting point, it may not be the best for use as we intended.
