X-Men 2 Carphone

I thought it would be great if the metal piece in the center would also be the charger for the blue tooth.

haha yeh that would be very cool. It would take a bit of playing around with but the end product would be rather impressive!

I still have to redo the parts to scale a bit better so no worries about the time frame.

A charging cradle....I'm going to be broke in no time. :lol

I vowed never to rip open that thing, as that Nerf gun is rare as hell, and I'm even afraid to air restrictors. :p
That's a really good start, Jay. I'm not sure I see that extra curvature you mentioned. But seeing it next to your smartphone, it does look huge. :lol
I'll have to go back and view that scene again and see which sides actually pop outward. It may be only the bottom, but hearing that, it sounds a little weak to me. But if it is, so be it. SA is SA. :)

yes it is a monster! lol.. Ok i scaled it down to 85%.. here is a comparison image with the iphone thrown in for good measure.

we are inching closer!:p... any last design requests or changes??

Here was my Ideal for the blue tooth installation, and addition of the charging station port. starting to mold the station out of clay to make molds for pouring plastic parts.:thumbsup

TSFG, that's a great start, and I'm glad we're on the same wavelength on how to route the bluetooth. My only concern is now that the details have shrunken, I hope that won't interfere with the installation/routing of any of the parts.

I don't think so the blue tooth is small enough on its own. It should fit right into the base. if not it could be moved to the ear piece. Only thing I see is that it might have to have some siring done to it to allow for the charging part and the switch when the release is pressed.and maybe longer channels for the mike. But most blue tooth's have the mike and ear phone in one unit. So moving it to the ear piece would be a better location. just need to reroute the wiring for the power and switch.

Been following for a bit now. Looks awesome, and if there's a way to put a real bluetooth in it, I will be amazed and interested in one of my own.
I was thinking about all the black rubber parts, and although there may be several other (and perhaps better) ways, I thought that a cast made from this stuff could be cool... It comes in black and cures to be a hard but slightly flexible rubber.
Or maybe smooth-on makes black rubber casting materials that would be better. Or maybe you can have the 3D printers print in vulcanized rubber--I don't really know. But there's my two cents.

Seriously, it's looking amazing so far!

oww that stuff looks very interesting!..Rubber sides would be great, but it will be such a paint to design the recess and holding and sliding areas.... but...so..worth it! :p

Damn i wish they printed in rubber, that would be cool!

Hey Sy I was going to put the basic centres up for sale so ppl can mess about and once the mechanics have been sorted i will make a centre which accommodated everything perfectly(is) :)

I had a watch of X2 again and I think the resize is just about the right size (85% of the original model). Oh and the phone definately slides at both ends. (42mins in if you want to check)

Also this little guy is the button to unlock the phone, it is pressed by Logans right thumb.. no sliding rubber side :/... now i think i have watched enough X2 is slow no for 1 day

So both sides...CHECK!
Smaller button on the bottom right side...CHECK!

What now? Do we replan the mechanics around the smaller button? I think it makes things a little easier as well as sturdier, knowing the movement is now actually protected by that whole blackened portion. I may have to rethink the slides and catches now. :lol

Hmmm.. I guess so.

Technically the phone is completed.. I just have to redo the centre cover and side clips, which will take about an hr.

I think once you have it in your hands you will have a better idea of what to do. I can put the main 3 components up on shapeways if you want to mess about with the mechanism and bluetooth. I can post you out the centre cover and clips at a later date when i make them in resin. i dont think the 3d print is detailed enough or strong enough at these thicknesses for a useable prob.

I dont wanna get ppls hopes up BUT, shapeways might be introduction was prints. This means i may just be able to do some metal investment casting:)

You already had my hopes up weeks ago when it was mentioned that Shapeways may be in the market for working in metal. :lol
So I'm crossing my fingers in adamantium...:love

I can now see the supposed buttons as more open inner space for the mechanics and routing of whatever may be needed. Seeing as they are no longer actuating buttons and they are static to the main body.

well you can get silver and stainless steel atm....here's hoping for adamantium next!! :p

I never actually thought about hollowing out the sides, but thats not a bad idea. I think that middle piece will go thru a few iterations while we figure out how to make this thing actually work!.... now i gotta go print this phone out again... ya gotta love modern technology:D

I will be starting to make the molds for the charger. trying to make it look as close to the radio in the car as I can. mots of the electronics have been roughed. will keep you up dated on the project.

Wow man you're really going all out:D... I better finish off this phone. It will be ready for purchase this wkend at shapeways I promise. I've just been up to my eyes with work!

I never thought that from my 1st post, we would be at the stage where someone would have 3D modelled it for us to have printed.

A big pat on the back to everyone involved, and the biggest pat to jaybible for his immense Solidworks skills.

3 cheers!

I'd like to think that the love of a franchise/genre and props can do a lot of things if we all put out minds together. This is proof of that. :) Friendly forums and sharing ideas, genius. :cool

Now I just need to order one of these in the new proper scale and I can go out the electronics store and get crazy buying parts, pieces and a bluetooth. I'm not real familiar with the ear pieces, is there anyone out there with tips or hints on what models to look for?
