Wolverine all day baby! Jackets, belts, claws, oh my.

HELP!

There was a reply to a post here a few days ago where a direct link was given to the original Tank undershirt source and it was written as a reply something like " Here's the undershirt he usually wears."

It's now gone. I need it desperately and here's why...Zimmerli Richelieu has discontinued the original model for some time out of their Swiss factory. I know this via some research a few months back. I found a suitable substitute, but not the original.

Here on the forum, like three days ago the reply was posted about the original shirt to a link I had never heard of, a store out of New York, that had them for $179.00. I had planned on ordering it today and it is nowhere to be found.

Can anyone help?

Wow that sucks... I guess I missed the boat on those shirts... If it wasn't bad enough at $90 for an undershirt and now they are $179. Jeez good luck with it though. More props to you if you can get one. Oh and I don't remember reading a post like that in this thread. Maybe it was from a different thread.

Yea I posted that in someone's thread who needed help with sourcing pieces of an Origins outfit, I referred him to this thread but was posted elsewhere

That's not the original model.

It's the replacement they produced in order to cut costs, after the sale of the company to an LLC and a factory move to an outlet in Poland. And there are two differences between the shirt they are now offering and the original.

The original model (#207-0805) was the model used in all X-Men films as well as The Wolverine. Supplied by Zimmerli as a Swiss company. When they were bought out in 2013, the factory moved to Poland, and cost cutting measures were begun. One of those measures (Info here gleaned directly from the key retailer of the original shirt from the original Swiss operation) was to changed to the original model by cutting the waist fall, and adding a band.

Whereas the original had the open hem waist with the curtained stitch.

This subtle detail made the shirt do something rather annoying, in that it ( the new model #207-1419) now bunches/rides up around the high waist and constantly needs to be adjusted down beneath the trousers.

The shoulder bands are also closer together into the taper on the original model.

The original shirt is tiny when not worn. It stretches broadly to fit the wearer and, once taken off again, reverts back to its original shrunken below size form. The replacement can be starched out over a shorter amount of time due to the lesser material quality overall. These two points make the replacement shirt substantially less in cost. As was the original intent when it was altered.

This is sort of inside researched information and is, of course, up for conjecture and debate. It's just the information I have. But the point it, yes, there actually is a different shirt on the Zimmerli site as opposed to what they once offered. There's a cached page you can also find fairly easily that shows it discontinued and a link to the suggested alternative. That said, in the end, it doesn't matter to me personally. I've gone to great lengths to get everything as close to authentic as possible. I don't want the shirt that is the replacement for the original. Call me anal. I want the original.

So there in lies the distinction.

It's just a personal preference. Just like my decision to now attempt to also have the grommeted belt recreated to screen, in addition to ordering a stand-by which will suffice if it ( the attempted grommet build) doesn't work out.

It's all a matter of preference;)

LMAO....

I see....You're worried that people will notice it's too short under the jeans? Honestly.....I'd say that's pushing "too hard".....That said, I have three that I bought long enough back to have the older design (it would seem)....So I'm not worried about it....

If the design was different? I'd be worried, but it's not...The length of it? And the band on the bottom? Seems to me to be rather pointless to worry about.....But...That's me....You're paying close to 200 dollars for a vest....I paid 9000 yen and thought THAT was a lot....

Heh....There's "essential", and essential...And this ain't the former.... ;)

Still....Good luck..

Hmm...Fair enough...

Well....As a details obsessed guy, I respect what you put into the vest...Nice work! I hope it pays off on the shirts and jacket!

There's no way I'll ever buy another zimmerli tank again after the last 2 I had. They all fell apart and what not after a few nights of casual wearing. I wish there was a sturdier knock off of it with the same design.

LOL...Casual wearing? I've had mine over two years now and wear them fairly regularly...But nothing's changed.....You mean they got holes in them? I've noticed that if they catch on anything they're likely to rip...So I just make sure I'm not walking around in bushes....LOL

Egyptian cotton is soft....But it's not ripstop.....Act accordingly.. :)

A decent tank top https://www.c-in2.com/retail/catalog/show/core-engine-tank?s=287 <- $19 This tank is durable and has 2 different style of ribbing. It is soft and stretches to you form. I use this one for my Wolverine outings. it's not a replica of the movie tank, but it's as good as you can get next to the Zimmerli and noticeably not a cheep white tank sold in a bag of 3 or more.

I really like the look of those actually....One of those in grey and white would probably do perfect for X1 onwards...Even the side stich details are close enough to Zimmerli.......(I don't like the neck on the Zimmerli so much, as I prefer high neck vests.....Makes the arms pop more...).....

Nice find!

did anyone confirm if the screen worn ones were double layered(made specifically for the films) compared to the std offering from Zimmerli???

I wrote to Zimmerli, and asked them...And they said they'd not known, but were happy to see their products being worn by Jackman......

They had no idea about any changes made to it, but clearly identified the vest......I would guess there was a little done to the "opaque" quality of the Zimmerli? Superdrool said he got great results by wearing hell out of his, and getting it used and worn in....I can see that working....Dirty means the shirt seems thicker....But I strongly doubt they'd have added a layer to the vest for the film.....It looks to be the exact same.....Although in "real life", rather than on film, the vest seems thinner? I would think.......

In all the photos I've got of mine, I can't see through it as well as I can with my "own eyes".....So it could be that too......

Would tossing it on the dryer a few times make the fabric puffy and more thick? Or using fabric softener that'll puff it up?
