Wolverine all day baby! Jackets, belts, claws, oh my.

Re: Ebay Wolverine jackets any good?

Are you sure it's silver? Not many belt buckles are made in silver, especially the chief. They are mostly pewter with a brass finish or solid brass. Both of my Indian head buckles Chicago and Bergamont are pewter with a brass finish. Most of the brass finish has come of the high wear areas on the front of my Chicago version. Commercial buckle paint coloring are enamels for high wear and durability, but comonbub is right. It's easiest to use acrylic, let it air dry and protect it with a topcoat. It will naturally weather off, if you wear it long enough. ;)

Re: Ebay Wolverine jackets any good?

Well it doesn't look painted to me, but it could be made of pewter. Im pretty sure its Magnoli's "antique silver" version of the buckle. I also have a brass version of the chief which I found for $1. I think that is the one I'll try to paint since I like the antique silver one for a more toned down Wolvie look.

Dude its a belt buckle, without the other regalia not a soul would notice...

Yeah but I will soon own the watch strap, belt and jacket - might be getting a bit much lol.

I reckon I'll just find a nice regular buckle, like on Indy's gunbelt or something.

Thanks guys :)

Drool, what are the measurements of your Indian buckle (just length and height is fine). I've got one and I've heard you say there are some that are larger than the others. Just wanna know which one I've got.

Re: Ebay Wolverine jackets any good?

I know that this has been covered before here but what are the best ways to wear the jacket in? Go over it with isopropyl alcohol on the leather, slightly loaded boot brush with some black polish and then wear it in the shower and move the arms around to build in the creases to enable comfortable movement are all things I'll be doing - anything else?

I might even sleep in it for a few nights :)

Re: Ebay Wolverine jackets any good?

I'm so close to being able to pay for my Vanson - it's killing me!

It's warming up here in Australia now but I'll soon be traveling to the USA where it's cooling down so it'll get plenty of wear!

Re: Ebay Wolverine jackets any good?

Dependng on the maker and mold of the buckle. I found that having two of the same exact designs and similar molds (hence why it gets confusing by photos) the dimensions are off on the Bergamont and the feather spead is too wide, and bulky, and the prong on the back tends to come loose, but on the Great Chicago Co. buckle, the dimensions and prong are more suitable to wear, as the dimensions are closer/smaller to that of the screen worn buckle. The ball on the prong makes for a tighter firmer fit if the holes of your belt are right, the prong will pop into the hole and sit in the neck of the prong perfectly and won't lose or fall off as most (western/trucker) prong styles tend to do. Both are make of pewter and have a brass coating, and are normally labeled as brass or solid brass.

Re: Ebay Wolverine jackets any good?

Sure. As long as it's a straight on shot, I should be able to tell which size casting it is.

Re: Ebay Wolverine jackets any good?

Yep. Bergamot Brass works, with no 'n'. I misspelled it earlier. It's the right design, wrong sized mold, but it's so close it's truly hard to tell if you didn't have both versions in hand.

If you are wanting the proper sized Sitting Bull, then The Great American Buckle Co. Chicago is the version to hunt down. From time to time, eagle eyed bidders will find it on eBay.

Hey Bowelrock, you should rename this thread, it has spun out into a wider array of good stuff. :D

You and me both, man - I'm looking forward to showing everyone.

I'm going to need to get myself some distressing supplies...

Re: Ebay Wolverine jackets any good?

Yes, yes you do. :lol
A clean X2 is LOUD to say the least. Not a fan of the metal gold that was chosen, but seeing Dan's distressing, it seems to work nicely.
