THEMAN, where did you get the belt buckle and claws? Awesome costume!

With other high quality replicas out there, one of Dan's is actually not that bad. You'll pay twice that (yes, that's $1,200) for a Belstaff War of the Worlds or Dark Knight Blouson, or a Bates X2 jacket (original maker)...easily. It's all in perspective.

Hey guys sorry I havent posted and shots of my Heron X2, I have been really busy lately at work and also bein at Las Vegas Motor Speedway this past weekend and witnessing the passing of Dan Wheldon really hit me hard. I do however have some shots from a recent Phoneix Childrens Hospital visit that show the jacket a little. The jacket has only seen the dryer with tennis balls for about 2 hours, I need to really hit it again for a bit to get the desired look.

If I can stop myself from admiring the girl in the black bodysuit I would like to say that I really admire the fact that you do these visits to the children's hospital. That's a great thing to do.

It is a nice thing to do. I'm sure you guys put smiles on those faces that day. :D
And about Jeggs, I received a response about a week ago ffrom him via PM here, no repsonses for while before or after that. I do know he's still kickin' though. He mentioned adding a new line of wallets and gloves to his array of leather goods. So I'm assuming he's busy with that stuff. No excuse for not answering PM's or popping in the thread with a quick update though. I'll PM him and see what happens.

BTW, thanks for the list MJF. :cool

Drool,

The belt and watchband arrived yesterday. The look great.

I put my Ebay Bergamont buckle on and and it completes
the package.

Any recommendations on painting the buckle? Looking for
ideas on colors and weathering. I've seen several buckles
that have different paint jobs and I'm not sure what parts
get painted for a screen accurate buckle.

Thanks

In each film there is a slight variation but the most drastic is from X1 to XO. The white feathers turned a aged yellow and the black feather tips sort of bled into the white, looking haphazard and messy.
I used acrylics lightly sanded the surface to remove the raised areas for that distressed XO look and sealed it in a clear dull coat.

But the color scheme has been the same:

face- chocolate brown
feather tips - black
hair - black
headband - green
discs - red
inset at base of feathers/above headband - light blue
feathers - off white/aged white (yellow hue)

Testors Enamel paint is going to work best for the buckle thats what I used, I have yet to weather it up after that though.

Enamels are more durable as they harden, unlike when acrylic dries to a plastic/rubber. I just find it's easier to work with acrylic as they are less messy and make for easier clean up, especially if the get on your hands or clothes. No need for thinner.

When I painted mine I used zero thinnner, and went straight out of the bottle. Very easy to brush on, you just have to shake it up alot.

How'd you tone down the gloss effect?

I used a pallet and wiped the excess paint onto it so I only had a small amount of paint in the brush. I used very light strokes to keep the glossy effect down. I am going to take some sand paper and really dull it up a bit more here soon.

Sandpaper will work but consider wearing a glove and grabbing a few handfuls of gritty river sand (or something equivalent), then rubbing the buckle until you reach the desired level of distressing. The sand will wear at the outer edges of the buckle design and at the same time will tone down the gloss of the minute inner edges and valleys of the design. The ending effect appears very natural.

Before you begin painting be sure to soak the buckle in alcohol or vinegar for a few minutes to remove any oils. When I painted my first buckle I shamelessly stole one of Magnoli's images from his website and used it as a reference, of course I also bought one of his buckles ages ago so I don't feel to bad.

It's only natural my vanson has been stuck at a USPS processing facility for the last 2 days -_________-...Said expected delivery was today, this is a first with them.

USPS said that? I've never had a late arrival like that from them. If anything the update was delayed and had it in hand before the site updated. Live updates aren't always that...
