Wolverine all day baby! Jackets, belts, claws, oh my.

Just another set of teaser images while we prepare for Comic Con NYC on the 11th!

The side burn areas/ hair over-flow across the ears (side-walls) hair-segments have not been completed in these photos, (which is why you will see a tiny piece of unconnected lace flipping out at the bottom of the fully exposed ear) and will be shown in the final reveal photo shoot October 10th. So the wig is at about 95% completion according to screen accuracy and film reference.

The entire 2 inch forehead/ hair-line lace is still intact, and will not be cut (it now drapes to just over my brows) until the sideburn/ear hair over-flow application is completed, and the entire piece is permanently set.

Styling otherwise is finished and final for the "Getting out of the truck/discovering the Power Absorber in the trailer-'Get out!" scene(s).

Words can't describe the wig bub!!!

I got the UD replicas X2 suit!!!!!!! it's a little big on me :( I'm having it looked for a quote by a tailor today. I never dreamed that when I saw the X-1 & 2 that one day I would have the suit from X2... Never. You ask my younger self and he would laugh at you. I'm sooo close to having one that fits, I just need time and money to make the rest happen, the hard part is done. Getting the suit.

Hey Travis, how did you achieve the rounded shoulders on your jacket. I've been wearing my X1 from Vanson for a while but the shuoulders always make me feel boxy like you mentioned. Any advice would be really really appreciated.

also I'll be at NYCC too working my booth and hope to see your costume by then! its awesome!!

1st stage distressing the X-1

More on this later, as I am running late for work and trying to get out the door. This is the result (with comparison image of a screen grab of the procedural video I'm making to document the process) after a 10 hour distressing session of my new X-1.

The results at this 1st stage are as follows...

The factory sheen/shine has been completely stripped/removed allowing for a semi-matte, natural finish and providing the base for specific distressing details and weathering.
The leather is more supple, softer and now drapes according to screen, and provides a significantly more comfortable and greater range of overall motion around the body, especially at the stress points.
The shoulders have been correctly re-shaped/rounded down the arm and off the shoulder-joints and now hang screen accurately.
The arms have begun to accordion correctly.
The "boxiness" of the shell has ceased to exist, especially around the4 forward closure, and now rests comfortably toward the body.
Collar and zipper front draping and correct splaying of collar flaps have been addressed and are setting in.

More/ better pics after the next session (and probably after work before that when I get home). This image was taken after 10 hours, at 5:00 A.M. and will be included on the procedural distressing video.

Thanks for looking!

Travis

Ok, I just got the other shirt I ordered and this one didn't even come in a box but when I tried it on it feels a lot tighter and fits much better. So I am not sure if the other one is just stretched out or if it was the wrong size in the box. Here is a picture.

Sorry for the lack of updates. Crunch time to Con!

I'll be back very soon with more stuff. On the Jacket front, I am STILL distressing it lol. It'll be done day before Con on Friday. Thanks for all who've been so supportive of this project. Almost there.

here's Erin setting my wig for the pre-con photo-shoot.

Finished my X-1 Logan Buckle for Comic Con.

Learned a lot and will definitely be revisiting it again when I'm not as pressed on deadline coordinating as much as I am right now. Very happy with the first go at it.
Here are the stats. Tanks for looking!
I chose to go completely against all the reference I had (from X-2 through Origins-each featuring a different take on the buckle's paint job, detailing, etc) as there are so many variations, and, instead, re- watched X-Men, researched the very few shots of the actual X-1 buckle itself, and took a look at what was really going on there with this thing.

For me, that wonky silhouette was what was most important to replicate.
The off kilter stalks above the headband which lean incredibly to the right and wrap around the red circle above the brow.
To me, it's that shape that separates this version from those that would follow. Unfortunately, there are scant images of this particular detail close up, so i , rather than trying to get picky about whether or not it was a shape residing inside the feather stalk separations, I figured it was probably a little looser in the paint job than, say and Origins deal, so i simply used my animators eye and copied the silhouette the best I could.
And it turned out comparable to the hero in the snow shot at first blush. And its really the "at a distance" silhouette shape I was going for. So in that, and given the other inherent problems painting over metal, I was successful to a pretty decent degree in what i set out to do. Which is all I ever hope for.

For now, and got a first time doing this, I'm pretty satisfied. It's close enough to the proper colors, as best as I can judge, and I got, as touched on above, the X-1, wonky-off kilter head-dress over-hang, that makes the entire thing look like and eagle head from a distance, which is what I always thought it was until the second and following films came out.

Allllllllll that said, the white took forever to get on over the green, self-etching primer, and ended up losing some of the feather detail as a result (which in and of itself is fine really, as it appears the X-1 has far less detail going on than it's counterparts) and it made the head dress stalls a nightmare to clean up.

After Comic Con, I'll scour this back to it's original state and do it all over again a few times to really perfect the process.
For now, it's totally close enough, for a one day paint and weathering job, for rock and roll.
Thanks for looking all.
5 days to con.

Having just read pt. 3 of the Death of Wolverine series, I thought some of you might enjoy a look at one of the locations in the book, for real....It's a park I've been to several times inthe centre of the city, and absolutely lovely....Although I'm pretty sure there's no Ogun there? Maybe he just hid well.....
Here's the website with a video for those interested....I can see why Wolverine chose to stop there with Kitty.....It's a great place to chill out...And also right next to the biggest martial arts weapons/gear/books/etc shop in Tokyo....Which, I'm sure, comes in useful for someone like him...

darkside501st, Thanks kind sir. Your Tank is perfect now and I saw your convention pics wight he chops. outstanding. you looked great.
superDrool- I'm going to leave it raw for now. I plan on re-doing the paint job a few times to really nail it as there are a couple small spots I'd like to check my reference on. My long term goal is to buy a few of them, and have them professionally and permanently enamled.

Annnnnd then this happened.

Time to start distressing some leather again. Oh, for this easing me how i rounded the shoulders on my X-1 leather, I will be releasing a long format, full distressing video.

At some point in the not too distant future.

Get it? because.... because I said a tag from the movie. You know. so I'm like IN the movie.

In my own mind. So I made the angry faces.

Anyway yeah, the tank here is not the Zimmerli. That comes tomorrow.

I have a UD replicas X2 suit on it's way!!!!! the seller might be able to get a few more. He said he would let me know if and when. Once I get it I will post pics. It's size Large only, I know I an going to have to have it altered, but to have the suit, I'd do anything lol. Now anyone want my first X2 suit?!?!?!!? It's up for grabs.

Who is this seller and how could he get more? That suit is long sold out and discontinued. There are no quantities of any kind anywhere.
Unless I'm misreading this, something isn't adding up.

David
