WIP 2x SS AT AT 42 inches long 1/24 scale

Re: WIP 2x SS AT AT 42 inches long 1/16 scale

You are right but it was just an oversight when i took the pic, the muzzle is not glued to the back of the gun and i forgot to slide it back for the pic, when it's all properly assembled it will recoil with the bottom of the gun...
thanks
mike

Correct me if I am wrong but, from the photos, it looks as though only the rear of the gun will be able to recoil as the distance from the tip of the muzzle to the upper guard appears to remain the same in both photos.

It could be just the angle the photos were taken at. Am happy to be corrected.

Re: WIP 2x SS AT AT 42 inches long 1/16 scale

Here is the "wishbone" and the upper foot, the upper foot is long enough so that it can expand and compress withing the lower foot. Both parts are headed for molds today/tomorrow. They have the 3/4 inch rod permanently attached to the pattern as a place holder for molding, this will ensure that the holes are in the correct place. When they are cast another 3/4 inch metal rod will be inserted into the mold and later removed. It's a much better way to get the holes in the correct place than trying to drill out the castings later. The "bolt" detail part location is marked on the pattern but will be a separately cast part, it's a recipe for mold disaster to have a fine detail like that on such a large part.

Re: WIP 2x SS AT AT 42 inches long 1/16 scale

Legs almost ready for molding, the legs will be mostly hollow reinforced with 2 1/4 inch x 1/2 inch aluminum square stock on the upper and 1 in the lower leg. All additional details on the legs will be cast separately to lengthen the mold life. The 2 bars on the upper leg are located where the screw/bolt intersects on the hip joint, the nut for that connection will be hidden under the uppermost panel, which will be removable via a magnetic connector.

Thanks everyone, this is just about 90% painted at this point, should be able to finish up in the next day or so and then to weathering....

Re: WIP 2x SS AT AT 42 inches long 1/16 scale

What do you feed it? :lol

Seriously, I always wondered HOW models are build from scratch. Are there any websites that are dedicated to the craft of scratch model building? What materials do you use and how do you work with them? All very interesting and GREAT work you are doing - it is huge, but now you can tell people you ATAT is bigger than thiers!

Re: WIP 2x SS AT AT 42 inches long 1/16 scale

Great model! Do you plan to paint the cockpit window with reddish color, like the AT-ATs seen in TESB? Or add some internal lighting inside the "head"?
