Looking to make a jedi remote, but having difficulty finding the tape. Can anybody reco' where scotch-lite is normally found?

Thx

(mods, this may be moved to Studio Scale since it is directly related to a studio scale model, at your preference)

A local sign shop will carry reflective vinyl, they can even cut it into circles of the size you need. Automotive stores like NAPA or Autozone will carry relective tape also.

Thats the difference. I'm going studio scale...so looking for a part match (not a "close enough". I've got reflective vinyl at home, but I'm looking for the real-deal 3M product Scotch-Lite. I checked one wal-mart. They had a reflective bumper sticker, but had some funky pattern on it. Will try another and some auto shops though.

sorry, i should have been more clear earlier

I got a 1m length of tape from a shop that sells safety clothing for work (construction/mining/etc), all that Hi-Viz yellow and orange stuff. They had a large roll of it and sold it by the metre. It's genuine 3M Scotchlite reflective material. Cheers, JT

Dang I forgot to check for you last night. I'll see if the wife can look for me and get an exact description. You are welcome to my leftovers if it's enough.

Same place I found the 3M brand as well; my local police/fire outfitter sells it by the yard. If you want I could pick you up a yard.

It is really much better than using any current reflective tape. In person the tape inside the training remote truck rims looks gray when it is not catching light. Most new reflective tape is stark white to start.

How much is it by the yard - I have a couple of projects that could use it - even my own JTR from waaaay back - it was one of the first replicas I created...

I remember he was surprised that I wasn't surprised it was so expensive. Apparently a local was shocked at the cost of having his dog leash done previously. I know I spent less than $20 but I can't remember how much I purchased at the time. I still haven't finished my JTR so I guess I could just measure what I have. :unsure

Anyway, I probably won't have a chance to stop over there until the weekend but i'll check. I would be happy to ship to anyone that needs it.

Though, are we all talking about the same scotchlite? The type I am using is 1" wide 3M and is fabric backed. It does not appear glossy on the reflective side, which is what I like most about it, but I am wondering if the original model makers just used plain old grey reflective tape.

Scotchlite can be found at many department stores that have a standalone 3M tape display, often found near the paint section. These are the ones that have everything from the Magic Transparent Tape to the blue painter's tape and everything in between.

It may not be labeled as "Scotchlite", but as 3M Reflective Tape on a small hanging, carded roll. The tape itself has a pearlescent white appearance.

it seems its a little more difficult to find in my neck of the woods. but i did find what i believe to be the real deal. it doesn't specifically say "scotchlite" on the packaging, but is 3M reflective tape...seems to be the right color. is presented on a small roll on a thin cardboard backing. and i'm calling it good enough. appreciate your help!
btw, found it at a DO IT center. always amazed those little stores usually have the hard to find item i'm looking for.

I did check last night and now I forget...

It was 3m for sure and it said reflective tape or decaling or something.

Looks like the same as Jedi Dade posted a link to.

Like I said you are welcome to my leftover if you want it. It should be more than enough.
